@ Sharyn - you are WINNING Cakewrecks today!
@Minda He's a Stargate fan... get him a "Prometheus" cake that looks suspiciously like Serenity (Firefly).
I work at the bakery at which this was made. It's the Short North Piece of Cake in Columbus OH. The decorator (Meghan) was playing a prank on her boyfriend by sending him a picture of this cake and asking him what he thought. He called her multiple times and texted her "emergency!!!" To tell her she wrote the wrong name on it. Meanwhile everyone at the bakery is laughing hysterically. It was fixed before it was sent out.
Thanks for featuring her cake!
@SaraCVT - I totally think I love you, that's brilliant :)
Kendall J. you win the internet today! That cake is awesome and hilarious.
It warms the cockles of my geeky little heart to see references to Farscape, Doctor Who, Firefly, Hitchhiker's Guide, AND Princess Bride all in one comment thread. My people.
I heard it can cross the Neutral Zone in less than 12 parsecs.
Best comments section EVER :D
Live long and may the Force be ever in your favor.
Way to go Kendall and Meghan!
Maybe he was going for one of the Klingon ships!
@Kat: INDEED, these ARE my people too, let's see, oh, LOTR, Stargate, oh, my...no Disc World reference...although that is strictly books, never had a tv show or movies...but...this really is amazing, and now you see why so many of us hang out here daily. We are all about warming geeky hearts because we all have them!
CW wins the interwebs today!
Isn't that the HMS Firefly? ;)

@Kendall, outstanding work!
Sharyn, that was epic. I'm still laughing!
@Lorien: After dealing with The Client From Complete and Total Hell today, I needed the laugh. I LOVE the image of the boyfriend freaking out while all of you are double over in laughter! Thanks for making my day!
*Claps hands* @Kendall Jensen and @Megan Anderson. This geek loves it.
All the cringes right here!
FABulous, brilliant cake. Awesome non-wreck.
And... The added please of all the references in the comments. Y'all never fail to astound me. I was also astounded that my DH has become enough acquainted that he got most of the references. (He's a bit delayed on Farscape) but the rest... He's learning!! My geek has oozed to my life partner. I could not be grinning wider.
@msyendor ...& saraCVT I'd go for those suggestions!!
@Seabird Thank you for that link. How is it that of all the things my parents, aunt, and grandparents choose to share about times gone by, they leave out Spock singing Tolkien? What other awesomeness have I missed?
It burns, precious!!
May the force be with you as you live long and prosper! 😜
Geeky! (I don't even know what it's from...)
@Rachel CrazyMum, @Tabbymom, @Seabird, @Susie Q, @Caroline B.: Thank you all, I appreciate it…and I used a translator, too. It’s been a looooong time since I studied Greek. In fact, right now, it’s Greek to me…. Star Trek and Star Wars were not a part of my childhood (I expand on this below in the next @), so while I am familiar with them, I am not very knowledgeable about them. Hence my comment. (Which, by the way, was close to a personal best for me for brevity….!)
@VaBeach alemaP: No, no deprived childhood, it’s just that Star Wars and Star Trek were not a part of my childhood. Science fiction shows were not in abundance on TV (nor was there an abundance of TV period). Radio was still very popular, and actually had “dramatic” shows – The Shadow, Fibber McGee and Molly, Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, to name a few. “The Twilight Zone” and “One Step Beyond” had some science fiction, and there was some Flash Gordon, but, frankly, TV wasn’t a big draw for us kids. Science fiction at the movies during this time featured a lot of science gone wrong, with a heavy emphasis on the dangers of leaked radiation or things coming from outer space. “The Thing” – the original, not the John Carpenter remake, scared us no end as did “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” “The Creature from the Black Lagoon,” and its too many sequels, dealt with a prehistoric man-creature and his love for the leading lady. “The Incredible Shrinking Man,” a classic, starts off when a man out sailing sails through a mysterious cloud. Outer space brought us “The Blob,” another cult classic that has been remade, unfortunately. And the coup de grace, often cited as the worst movie ever made “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” showed just how entertaining a poorly made hodge-podge of a movie could be, disregarding the fact that its star, Bela Lugosi, died during the filming, and was replaced by someone who looked nothing like him. (A side note, some would argue that “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” is equally as bad – or good, depending upon your reference point. That film stars a young Pia Zadora. Don’t recall her? No surprise.) [Full disclosure: I have a soft spot for Pia because I met her at a music store where she was promoting her record – yes, she was a singer, too – and she gave me a copy and was very nice.]
I read a lot of science fiction as a kid: Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, and Arthur C. Clark, to name a few. A favorite book was “The Day of the Triffids,” which was later made into a movie.
So…no, happily I did not have a science fiction deprived childhood – it was rich with it. It was just a little longer ago. :-)
Well if you want to be BiTrektual you may like to hear this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LB0T4OeTxI Actually there is also a whole album of the same name dedicated to Starwars/Startrek cross over (with a Dr Who track thrown in for good measure :)
Lol my husband would love that cake. Huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan. I would be giggling in the background once he saw that lol.
@ Seabird: High five! I love how you played with your kid's head there!
OMG, I so have to do something like that for a couple of our office geeks. I think I'll have the main Firefly character and someone from Battlestar Galactica stepping out of the TARDIS that's just landed in Narnia. Their heads will explode!
Chewie sabataaged the ship!
Is there supposed to be a satellite dish on it?
A new (falcon awesome) Enterprise for the Millennium?
The USS is Correct, as in United Space Ship Enterprise NCC 1701
"Surprise! It's the Heart of Gold!"
I want to see a Dr. Who and Dr, Seuss mash up. Anybody?
My eyes are burning
@ev:
"Horton Hears A Doctor Who" immediately sprang to mind.
*horrified trekkie twitching*
Just needs Starbuck at the helm and reavers attacking...
