What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Put The Coffee DOWN

It's not often that a baker submits on of his/her own creations for us to pick on. But Maayan, who both bakes and documents funny food horrors, did just that.

The following diet-assisting monstrosity was actually ordered by a customer. And what is it?

Go ahead, guess. I'll wait...

Spaghetti with tomato-y cream sauce?

An ear?

A cherry, Cheez-Whiz and regurgitation torte?

Nope, nope and nope! Give up?

It's a fetus-with-an-iPod pie!

Uh, I guess fetus cookies would have been going too far?

Thanks to Maayan Z. for being such a great sport!

I was guessing a top-down shot of a liver getting revived with a difibrilator.

Clearly it is a stomach with the intestines surrounding it. It's very accurate. Perhaps it swallowed the IPOD.

EEEEWWWW!!!!! Yuck!

August 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBeckie

I think that even for a fetus wearing an iPod, this is a poorly executed cake...sorry to say...

August 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHannah Hunt

is it bad that i knew what that was right as soon as i saw it?

August 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrevor

UGH! that one icky-looking cake/pice thing!

word verification: commmurf. the sound you make while you try not to loose your lunch.

It should not be "put the coffee down," it should be "have a bucket handy." That is the closest I have *ever* come to puking over an internet photo of anything, especially a cake. Now please excuse me, I think I need to take some Pepto and lay down.

It's Giygas from Earthbound! Start praying Paula or where all doomed.

August 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Wow.

Wow.

One "wow" for the wreck itself, another because I correctly guessed what it was.

August 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTsunoba

Can I barf now? Please?

August 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDelibird

Oh...my...lord....I almost threw up looking at it. Unfortunately, I TOTALLY saw what it was off the bat, how weird.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKarlynn

Oh, sure. I look at this AFTER I just ate half a bag of Doritos in one sitting. The big bag.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterwildmaven

Hi, this is MAAYAN, the one who baked the pie. I feel terrible for all the stuff people are saying... the commission had sweet sentiment, i t was for a baby shower. I think it was entirely my fault that it ended up appearing like a pile of deformed barf-baby.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaayan

...O_o...o_O...*scratches head*...fetus pie...um........yeah. Riiiiiiiiiiiight. I got the iPod part right. The rest, never would've guessed. That is just...wow.

i thought it was the intestines with an ipod.

ewww to me it looks like intestines or brain.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommentermizzyN

I thought it was an illustration of what can go wrong when the surgeon doesn't check the abdominal cavity for foreign objects before closing. Because that sure looked like intestines to me.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

I don't see a fetus. I thought it was stomach and intestines!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSixxlet

Blugh! I'm am having a nice bout of pregnancy induced morning nausea, and thought I'd cheer myself up by checking my favourite blog! Boy was that a mistake!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'm with Nikalady...that pie is just wrong on so many levels...

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSudiegirl

I must say that I'm scared that I knew what it was BEFORE reading your comments!!!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

WOW...that is really really disgusting!! Excuse me while I go vomit...

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMandy

That is absolutely disgusting. Seriously.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteriglidante

Hi Maayan - thanks for the explanation. Now, inquiring minds want to know: What kind of filling did it have, and was it tasty?

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMartin

No. Just. NO.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertotalblammblamm

Whatever it is, it's nasty!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterApril

Its a cake before the stomach band surgery. the cake is supposed to be the whole inside of your body. kinda gross, but great way to celebrate with cake before limited what u can eat for the rest of your life.

Hmm, if I were a baker, I don't think I'd comply with that request. I hope I wouldn't be that hard up for money.

LOL re: feed us pie/fetus pie! (2nd comment)

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Lol, I was looking at it and thinking "hmm... fetus...with an ipod... pie" and then I scrolled down and that was what it was! I really feel like I accomplished something. :D

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterhoolooovoo

WHAT HAS BEEN SEEN CANNOT BE UNSEEN

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBree

Ohhh...eeeeewwww!! I thought it was intestines!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterchicken lips

Yes! I guessed correctly!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBillyD

A fetus? Really? I though it was a naked mole rat with an iPod. See, if it was a naked mole rat, it would have a reason to be underground, and since it's underground it's surrounded by earthworms. That makes SO much more sense than a fetus. After all, how would you get the iPod to the fetus?? Er... Don't answer that.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterShawty

Love the TMBG reference - I'll be humming Triangle Man for the rest of the evening now!

And fetus pie is just all sorts of wrong. "Feed us pie"...LOL

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Ah-ha! I guessed it. But ew.

August 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSochitelya

It freaks me out a little that I recognized that immediately. That's almost creepier than the pie.

August 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Gross, gross and triple gross. Who would ever eat that? http://blog.sweetservices.com/sweetscandyblog/

August 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPam Walter

TAYLOR (comment #2) You take the cake!

(or pie, as in this instance)

August 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterheartafire

super nasty and so wrong on many man levels.

August 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercshields

I just cant help thinking about how my 4-yr-old kept asking me to eat some toys so that his baby sister would have something to play with.

wv: ingstion. Seriously, does someone sit around and think of words that almost meet the cake?

August 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

this one wins the gross award! i could barely look at it even before i knew what it was!

August 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJ

Quite possibly the most repulsive thing I've ever seen.

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterblackbird

I could totally tell that was a fetus with an ipod the second I looked at it. What does that say about me???

But a pie? Why???

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterI Love Baby Quilts!

I saw brains, a stethoscope, and spagetti. Groosssss.

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbrista

The Onion ran a story in... 2000ish? that featured a fetus with a TV, in utero. I can't for the life of me find the original story, but I liked the image so much that I put it on my own website, so, via the Wayback Machine, here it is: http://web.archive.org/web/20040318220454/www.thebighouse.us/partarc2.html

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

Gross! Would anyone actually eat this?

August 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaria Jonas

I am retching at the thought of people cutting into this "pie". Gah, wtf..........................???

August 29, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjune2

I'm disgusted with myself that that was actually my first guess. On second glance though, it looks more like an inside-out pig laying on a pile of spaghetti with a wind-up radio attached to its eye.

It's horrific.

Oh and Taylor, the frenzied mob screaming "fetus pie" really cracked me up.
