What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Monday Sweets(?) Celebrates Parks And WRECK

Yesterday Alison told us in the comments that she'd be disappointed if we didn't have a follow-up post entitled, "Celebrating Parks and Wreck."

So Alison, your wish?

OUR COMMAND.

Play it again, Jen.

July is Parks and Recreation Month!

If you think I'm going to use this as an excuse to post a bunch of fun cakes and reminisce about Parks & Rec the series, then you are absolutely correct.

But first:

"Marta, I'm gonna need two hours' worth of waffles."

THIS'LL DO.

Besides, when else could I feature an awesome shoe cake?

I bet Andy would love that name for his shoe-shine stand, too.

You may see a cute pony, but *I* see Li'l Sebastian:

::sniff:: SO CUTE.

Then there's the man, the myth, the legend:

And perhaps his greatest legacy:

ALL the breakfast foods!

Believe it or not, someone actually made a Cones of Dunshire cake - and it's awesome!

It's all about the cones.

This reminds me of Leslie's favorite wildflower mural:

So gorgeous - and all buttercream! I can't get over those razor sharp edges, wow.

Oooh, here's a beauty worthy of Duke Silver himself:

Best saxophone cake I've ever seen - and yes, the sax is edible!

I suppose we should bring it back to this nation's parks, though, since that IS what we're celebrating this month:

I had to double-check that the animals are hand-sculpted; I thought they were store-bought figurines!
Incredible.

Well, however you celebrate this month, minions, don't forget to TREAT YO'SELF:

Sure, some folks like bubble baths... I'll take the cake.

Happy Parks & Recreation Month, and happy Sunday Monday, everyone!

Thanks to Larissa C., Michelle C., Petrina Y., Dimitra S., Scarlett K., Sarah W., Katie D., Bethany T., John Y., Wendy L., & Jamie M. for helping our post hit wreck'd bottom.

What Do Cupcake Theft And Goat-Keeping Have In Common?

Ever get the feeling bakers are just as confused by their cakes as we are?

A flag? A four? A cry for help? YOU DECIDE.

And what IS this?

Besides $24.99, I mean.

(Here's where john [thoJ] took over. See if you can spot the subtle differences.)

AND WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE?!?!

(Really puts the b in subtle, that John)

I'm tempted to say it's a patriotic dong, but that is so yesterday, ya know?

Luckily, these cakes have all the bells and whistles:

Then again, I think this baker was just phoning it in.

(JEN!!! I made a pun!!!!)

Here's comes a baker who will never judge your weird name choices:

Now to sit back and wait for the only person named Aermica in America to send us an angry email.

"I'll have you know that Aermica is a proud Norwegian name meaning 'keeper of goats!'"

Expect our retraction statement/apology soon, Aermica.

At first I thought this next photo was taken upside down, but the flags are one-sided, so... NOPE.

Just in case you ever wondered how a baker could possibly misspell USA when given plastic USA flotsam pieces. ::sigh::

And finally, you almost have to respect the balls on the customer who flat out stole three cupcakes out of this cake display:

Then apparently shook the whole thing up for good measure.

See, it's just like the Boston Tea Party, only without the politics or cute name or any sense of moral compass.

Also no tea, so I guess my analogy is stretching a little thin.

Hm.

Well anyway...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AERMICA.

Thanks to Amber M., Andrea W., Dirk E., Cortney S., Dave H., Melissa M., & Sammy Z. for helping us celebrate Aermica's special day.
