What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

10 Reasons Edible Images Are The Absolute WORST (Plus One That's Pure Gold)

You'd think printing out your decorations would make them LESS wrecky, but... NOPE.

10 Reasons Edible Images Are The Absolute WORST:

1) Because even though bakers COULD use spell-check...

...they don't.

And also that pesky spacing thing.

2) Because now it looks like the cake is wrapped in fabric:

3) Or shiny plastic:

(I've seen Slip n' Slides that looked thinner than that stuff. Think you need scissors to cut it?)

4) Because the printer always runs out of ink and turns everyone green:

But thank goodness bakeries don't let that stop them.

5) Because of the badly Photoshopped photo collages:

6) And free clip art:

7) Because it gets all shiny and slimy:

*hurk*

8) Because square paper, round cookies cakes:

Ahhh, SEAMLESS.

9) Because creepy ultrasounds:

"NO I DON'T WANT THE FACE PIECE, JOAN."

And finally, the best/worst reason edible images are the worst?

10) Because bakers keep doing this:

Not cool, bakers. Not cool.

Thanks to Alexis M., Alexia K., Jennalee Z., Graham C., Melissa H., Darren G., Amber, Nicky W., Mercedes M., & Desiree H. for getting the picture.

#2 -- I used to have flannel pajamas in that exact print. It makes the cake seem even creepier to me.

Oh my god, the last one is epic.

The first one is the only one I would even consider eating. On the rest it's hard to believe they're using edible paper.

Life really IS unicorns, rainbows, and puppies!!

I love that last one! Thanks for sharing.

For number 4, all I could see was a woman wearing a pink shirt and a reddish/orange corset until I looked at the original picture and saw that the "corset" was actually the body of a child!

The fingerprints in the frosting either side of the new your image just make me shudder more than the image...

The divots in the frosting on either side of the license plate cake are a nice touch.

Are those pink and purple peens on the creepy ultrasound cake?

The last cake makes up for all the insanity of the other cakes. Lol I really have to wonder how they got jobs in a bakery.

So #4 is Gamora and her original family?

I have only worked with edible images once. It was for a corpse bride cake. I cut the images out and put them in fondant frames and so Emily and Victor were looking at each other. It turned out cute. I'm wondering what the mouth feel is like on some of these 😂.

#6 doesn't seem so bad to me except for the misspelling. I mean, I can't really imagine how wrong it could go if you asked them to draw kidneys.

No, no, no, you have #2 all wrong. It's a lovely sheet cake (ha!) for a housewarming party. You know, made of actual sheets. Like those diaper "cakes" they have at baby showers.

#3 - So *that's* what happened to my childhood pool.

#6 - My prays are with all of these bakers, that they find other jobs and they don't work with me.

And the last one, my childhood dog looked like that, so that makes it extra-super awesome.

On #4, it doesn't look like the printer ran out of ink so much as it looks like somebody printed the color negative. Easy to do with one wrong click.

Does anyone else think edible paper is delicious with buttercream frosting? No? More for me then!

The one with the license plate is just a reference to a Seinfeld episode. Not surprised to see it brought back time and again.
