What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

JOEY DOESN'T SHARE FOOD

Last week someone in a Facebook group I belong to asked a question that made the rest of us sit up and take notice.

The question was, "Does my arm look like a turkey leg?"

And you guys, it totally did.

It turns out this is intentional; Rachel here is dressing up as Thanksgiving Dinner for an upcoming marathon. So the next time you need a pick-me-up, just think of Rachel, running around in public, dressed as a giant turkey dinner.

And the next time you see a turkey cake, remember this oh-so-seamless segue:

Does this look like a turkey leg?

'Cuz it's their "specialty."

How 'bout this one?

Ahh, but nothing beats this beauty:

'Tis the season... to run screaming from the bakery!

Rest assured Rachel will be way ahead of us... wearing shoes with pies on them:

Have I mentioned Rachel is my hero?

Thanks to Amanda G., Emily J., Amy O., Bucklebee, & Rachel, who I'm sure would never forgive me if I didn't include the most appropriate Joey gif of all:

You're welcome.

Even worse, I think the "specialty" cake is supposed to be a cornucopia. At least, the purple things could conceivably be grapes, and the other blobs could be intended to represent vegetables. I don't know what the wilted-lettuce-green thing is, though. Definitely not.a turkey, but horrible in its own right.

I LOVE Joey!! Thanks for the reminders of him.

The 4th cake is mashed potatoes with stuffing (and legs, for some reason) which sounds intriguing...
Either that or it's an even worse idea, a RAW turkey cake!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBin

That last cake looks like it's supposed to be a turkey that hasn't been roasted yet. So, a raw turkey cake? Uh, no thanks.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterElisabeth

So no one told you cakes were gonna be this way.
The trim you got's a joke; the turkey's not okay.
It's like the decorator's not all there,
When the really bad Thanksgiving cake displays can give you a scare....

The plushie pie shoes are actually very cute :D as for the last wreck...it looks as though a turkey got some of its genes spliced with potato genes O_o

I can't decide between the "specialty" cake with a crack down the side that you could drive a turducken through or the raw albino one with chocolate sprinkles.

EEek....I'll have the mashed potatoes, please.

Please tell me that first one is made out of solid icing? Because it looks just like it is. 8-d

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBea

Was... was that last one a turkey made out of mashed potatoes...?

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAidan

Well, that isn't like Joey ....I thought he'd eat anything.
=^-.-^=

Is Thanksgiving Rachel's favorite holiday or something?

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDarlene

Rachel, we desperately need a photo of the whole costume. Don't leave us hanging...

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterHeather A

I just cackled aloud. Good thing no one was here to hear me.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterThe peanut

@sending the clowns: No, you're getting mixed up; it's MIKEY who eats anything. He doesn't hate it, he eats everything!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

Joey!
Rachael's costume looks amazing. Pie shoes, and all.
I have to agree with him, those are terrifying in a weird, delicious way.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDeb in atlanta

Well #4 is just revolting. Which is worse, a cake that looks like raw poultry? Or a cake that looks like mashed potatoes with chocolate sprinkles? Run Joey, run! I'm right behind you!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

Turkey number two looks like it has a leaking abscess and number four looks seriously undercooked!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

Love that blobby almost-yellow 'banana'... the 'orange' has serious problems

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterccrow

And ... here come the Meat Sweats.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterbrian t

That last cake looks...disgusting...

And Rachel's costume is my favorite!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKimberlyR

Your friend Rachel: I like her.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJules

Rachel will look terrific in her finished costume (pics, Rachel!), but next year I think she needs to go as a Piecaken. Or Cherpumple. Now THAT would be a costume!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen S

In the third cake pic, all I see is a shrimp that swallowed a football.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEmSpeaks

I hate to be the nerd but it was Monica in the turkey. Please don't fire me from the page.

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterfatchic

Several of these cakes look like the Brain Bugs from the movie Starship Troopers. Google that if you dare. But be warned: you can't unsee it once you see it. :)

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEselle

OMG - those "cakes" keep getting worse and worse. Make it stop!

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKyle

Jen, will you please ask Rachel for a picture of the whole meal to post? This is so creative! I always think I'm going to dress up for our T-day 10K, but never get my act together in time.

Classic Steve: you win the Internets today! :)

November 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterZippy

Lol these cakes are hilarious and the gifs man those are priceless.

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Mr. Bean did the turkey on the head long before that.

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterIggy

I'm pretty sure this wasn't on a friends episode but

*looking around but the tenth floor apartment of a high rise*
"I smell turkey!"

*turns away from the window a turkey suddenly descents into view perfectly framed in the window before falling, there's a loud crash and a car alarm is heard*

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNathan R.

ccrow: oh, is that a banana? I would never have guessed. Probably because bananas aren't usually found in the 'fall harvest' aisle at the storeā€¦

If your'e going to make a turkey out of mashed potatoes, at least add some food coloring!

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterjoybeth

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." WKRP Thanksgiving episode.

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterjoybeth

Um, shoe-pies???? Yes please!!!!
Shoe Pie... you bother me. ;-)

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

"Joey doesn't share food" is one of my test quotes -- if I say it and they don't get the reference, I don't need to be around that kind of negativity. ;)

Also, Rachel is awesome, and I've been waiting for a pic of the whole costume since she first showed the turkey leg!

November 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

I want to see Rachel's entire outfit. I don't suppose you could post that, could you?
