FIFTEEN YEARS, BABY!!

Today is my fifteenth wedding anniversary, and that always gets a girl asking the Big Questions.
Questions like, "What, no cake?"
And, "how do you spell 'anniversary,' anyway?"
And, "Does this seem suspicious to you?"
("It's. Looking. At me.")
After spending one third of my married life writing this blog - which, WOW, amirite? - I've seen enough anniversary cakes to know many have valuable life lessons to teach.
For example, this one reminds us that the first few years of marriage are a learning experience.
A four year "anniversity," if you will.
And this one encourages us to never give up in the face of adversity, poor planning, or earthquakes:
Its always the thought that counts. ALWAYS.
And here's a valuable reminder that, after 24 years, even the most devoted couple might need a little more space:
Love comes in all shapes, sizes, and combinations, so never judge.
Some folks would have given up after, like, TEN weddings - but not these two crazy kids!
And finally, anniversaries aren't just about the big, life-changing moments; they're about celebrating all the everyday things you get to share together. Things like holding hands during the fireworks, or reading to each other on long car rides ... or even just a new pair of dentures:
Though for the record, Sweetie, I think I'm going to draw the line at sharing dentures.
Thanks to Sarah G., Jaime & Jen, Janet R., Mika R., Brad L., Brittany T., Anna F., Christine M., & Kristin R. for helping us celebrate. John and I are in Atlanta today for Dragon Con, btw, so I hope to see some of you here!

You're wed 15 years, and what do you get?
A really big folder of cake wrecks, I'll bet.
It's sweet how good you two are together, so...
I hope you get a good cake from the store...
Happy Anniversary! Have a great time at Dragoncon!
(Now, I have this urge to watch "Joe Versus the Volcano.")
Verrry Hippy Anniversity!
You are three years down the road from me. How's the view there from the future?
Enjoy DragonCon!
Happy Anniversary.
Happy anniversary, Jen!!! I'd wish John one, too, but you only mentioned that it was "your" anniversary, so if he wants any of it, he'd better speak now, or forever hold his piece...er, peace.
=^~.-^=
Happy Anniversity, er Anniversarary, dangit how DO you spell Anniversary?? lol
Cool~I wasn't aware that a cake could actually scowl !
Oh, and that last one would make an interesting ad for a dentists' practice; you know how they have that annoying habit of telling patients to cut "down on sugary sweets"...Here's the "or else..." =^-.-^=
Happy Day to you both! And for the record, I've always have a hard time spelling the word anniversary, but if I was being paid to do it, I think I'd look it up :) Have an awesome time at Dragon Con!!!
Happy Anniversary :) My husband and I are also celebrating 15 years today :)
Happy Anniversary!! Y'know, thanks to you guys, I will never be certain of my spelling again. Even if it's right, it doesn't look right. ;-) Have fun at DragonCon!
@Krysmon: Thanks for another LOL :)
@Jen (& John): Happy anniversary!
Happy, happy day!
There are some shades of green in these cakes that are . . . Um. . . .interesting, shall we say. So interesting that they are not fit for human consumption.
Ad is that 4th anniversity cake fruitcake? With frosting on it? If so, eeeeewwwwwww!
Happy anniversary, Jen and John! May you always be as happy as the cakes you show us are wrecky.
Happy Anniversary! My hubby and I just racked up 17 years, but only one wedding. Really wish I could be at Dragon Con to see the white rabbit (and cheshire cat!).
I don't care what's written on it, cake nº 2 is litereally calling my name and screaming me "eat me".
Happy anniversary and enjoy your day at Dragon Con!
Happiest of days to you both!
That last cake reminds me of the Pixar short, Geri's Game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IYRC7g2ICg).
Happy dragonversary (another perfectly acceptable spelling,) and may all your future anniversity cakes be Sunday Sweets!!
Happy 15th Wedding!
Happy anniversary, Jen and john (thoj)! How funny is life that it brought together two exceptionally funny people who would go forth and multiply that funniness a thousand fold to be shared among millions! I am happy to have met you both, but am even more delighted and thankful that you met each other. Enjoy the day and enjoy the convention! And best wishes for many, many more years of love and laughter.
#6 to me, at first, looked like an oreo - yum, oreos.
Happy anniversary, you crazy kids!
@Deirdre: You were married the same year I was, because my hubby and I did the same thing earlier this month! Happy Anniversity (does he remember either?) And Hoppity Annaveserri to you and John (thoJ), Jen!
@Kdot: Now that you mention it...
Now I'm glad we usually don't celebrate our anniversary (who's Ann, anyway?) with cake. I'm more a fan of creme brulee, and Greg doesn't have much of a sweet tooth.
Congradulations to two of the funniest people on this blog. Okay, maybe that needs to be a tad more specific, since an anniversary implies a couple. Happy anniversary, Jen and John(thoJ).
#3 is rather well done*, except for the scowling stare. Yikes! *For a wreck, that is.
#4 does appear to be a frosted fruitcake. Moving right along...
#7 People celebrating their 24th must know a thing or two about planning ahead. Too bad the wreckorator didn't.
#8 Wedding addiction is a complex disorder, but Tom & Joyce are making headway. One positive: the out-of-town relatives and friends have racked up a ton of frequent flier miles. Meanwhile, let's all wish them a happy four-year-and-two-month anniversary.
#9 "Got my new teeth a year ago. Changed my life, let me tell you. Now, when someone says, 'gum?' I say, 'nope -- I chew.' I sometimes get a funny look as the other person is putting their gum away, but I figure they just don't understand."
Happy Anniversary to Jen and John! Never met you guys, but in some ways feel like we're friends. Hope you have a fabulous celebration together.
Thanks for bringing all of us so many laughs over the past 5 years!
What mel said.
My brother and SIL celebrate 16 years tomorrow, also at Dragon*Con. Tell 'em I said HI! if you see 'em.
Happy Anniversity to you and John!
An anniversary of adversity....
Happy 15rd Anniverrserity!
Underneat that
We love you Jen and John!!
Happy 15th Wedding, and here's to at least 35 more!
Congratulations!
Wishing you many more years of happiness!
Have a happy anniversity! whether its your 50th wedding or not. LOL
Happy Anniversary, Jen and John!
(Now I just have to reassure myself that I actually spelled that correctly. :)
@Sharyn: ( Now, I have this urge to watch "Joe Versus the Volcano.") Oh, can I come over and watch it with you? I love that movie! [My favorite line:"What's that, a teddy bear?"] I'll bring popcorn! =^~.~^=
Happy Anniversary, you two! God's blessings on many, many more.
Happy Anniversay John(thoJ) and Jen!
I think you are a match made in do-it-yourself and hold-your-hand-through-awful-appointment heaven.
Happy Anniversary Jen and John! So awesome that you are celebrating your Anniversary at DragonCon. You guys are the coolest, perfectest couple!
Sharyn, love the song! (My hubby and I always celebrate our anniversary by watching Joe vs the Volcano.)
I think Tom & Joyce have the right idea; imagine all the gifts after 50 weddings! They will never run out of toasters.
Awww! Happy Anna Versary to my two-favoritest-people-I've-never-met-but-feel-like-I-know-but-not-in-a-stalkerish-way! A toast: *clears throat*: To Jen and Jthoj~Many Happy Returns of the Day, and May All of Your Problems be only Cakey Ones!" *clink* *clink* *sluurp* =^@.@^= (*urrp*)
Hawpy aneversiry jen :)))
Congratumalations to you Jen and John (thoJ)! Boy, these were fun, huh?
#1. No cake, no speling #2.Yummy cake, yucky spelling #3 *Sigh* No one understands how bells work, anymore... #4 Errrh...Styrofoam (TM) for the win #5 Mmmmm, cookie cake #6 Just, ewww! #7 This is a lovely, if somewhat unfini #8 And finally, "WHY?"
Have a great time at DragonCon!
Cake #3 reminds me of this bit from A Shot in the Dark (at about 1:35).
Cake #6 reminds me of the old Folger's Crystals commercials. "We secretly replaced the decorator's piping bag with a tube of toothpaste. Let's see if she notices the difference."
Happy Anniversity to you! Have an awesome weekend with your Hubbs!
@mel and @Annie - I couldn't have expressed your sentiments any better! I SO wish we could "Like" the comments...
Happy Anniversary, Jen and John (thoJ)! Congrats on 15 years of wedded bliss. My hubby and I celebrated our 31st this past June - hardly seems possible it's been that long. I wish you many, many more years of sharing DIY, crafty, hilariously funny work and play. Now go celebrate at Dragon*Con and show those folks how cosplay is done!
And, as wrecky as the spelling is on cake #2 (Aniversaty ?!!?), I gotta say - Fudge icing and white chocolate curls FTW! That cake looks way yummy.
Hey it's your crystal (15th) anniversary. Congratulations Jen & John- have lots of fun. ;-}
Happy Anivernitsty! It's the thought that counts. The sad, demented thought.
Happy anniversary, Jen and John!
Thanks for meeting and getting hitched and spending the last 15 years creating awesome stuff together and the last five years making fun of cakes together. We all appreciate it!
Have fun at DragonCon!
I can't even be mad at that "4th anniversity" cake because I think it's cute. (Also, SPARKLE FROSTING.) And at least the 50th wedding one is pretty.
Yes, I'm reaching here. I'll stop.
WHAT does it say on Cake #6?
Happy Anniversary, Jen & John. Hope you're enjoying Dragon Con.
#8 - Those are pretty flowers, anyway. I suppose by your 50th wedding (and possibly 50th wedding cake) you know not to eat the ribbon around the bottom.
#9 - I agree with Craig: this must be a cake to celebrate the anniversary of someone getting dentures.
I'll join everyone else in wishing you guys a very Happy Anniversity! Have a fabulous weekend!
