FIFTEEN YEARS, BABY!!

Today is my fifteenth wedding anniversary, and that always gets a girl asking the Big Questions.
Questions like, "What, no cake?"
And, "how do you spell 'anniversary,' anyway?"
And, "Does this seem suspicious to you?"
("It's. Looking. At me.")
After spending one third of my married life writing this blog - which, WOW, amirite? - I've seen enough anniversary cakes to know many have valuable life lessons to teach.
For example, this one reminds us that the first few years of marriage are a learning experience.
A four year "anniversity," if you will.
And this one encourages us to never give up in the face of adversity, poor planning, or earthquakes:
Its always the thought that counts. ALWAYS.
And here's a valuable reminder that, after 24 years, even the most devoted couple might need a little more space:
Love comes in all shapes, sizes, and combinations, so never judge.
Some folks would have given up after, like, TEN weddings - but not these two crazy kids!
And finally, anniversaries aren't just about the big, life-changing moments; they're about celebrating all the everyday things you get to share together. Things like holding hands during the fireworks, or reading to each other on long car rides ... or even just a new pair of dentures:
Though for the record, Sweetie, I think I'm going to draw the line at sharing dentures.
Thanks to Sarah G., Jaime & Jen, Janet R., Mika R., Brad L., Brittany T., Anna F., Christine M., & Kristin R. for helping us celebrate. John and I are in Atlanta today for Dragon Con, btw, so I hope to see some of you here!

Happy anniversary! Jen and John(thoj).
I believe the proper gift for 15 years is a giant metal chicken. :-)
Thanks for my daily dose of giggles, Jen. And happy anniversary to you and John! Hope you're having a blast at Dragon*Con! :)
The first thought I had when I saw #3 wasn't scowling eyes but, er, "funny cigarettes".
The things you learn when you're trying to be a smart butt. Miriam-Webster online doesn't have "anniversary" in their thesaurus. Plan B: look at the dictionary section to see if anything interesting pops up!
Anniversary comes from:
"Middle English anniversarie, from Medieval Latin anniversarium, from Latin, neuter of anniversarius returning annually, from annus year + versus, past participle of vertere to turn"
Yeah, neutering and fighting ("versus") are involved. LOL
Happy annual day you celebrate entering the state of wedding bliss!! :D
So I read the title to today's post and did a double-take. My husband and I can never remember our anniversary so we keep the certificate framed on our wall. We too were married fifteen years ago today and we would have forgotten our anniversary completely if I had not read your post! Thank you for the reminder! Happy anniversary from one happy couple to another.
Happy Anniversary!! I hope you have many, many more :). And I also hope no one treats you to any of these cakes lol. Though the strawberries I would eat and enjoy. Heck I would probably even eat cake number two as well. Ah the joys of anniversaries lol.
Happy anniversary, you freaks. Y'all two weirdos were definitely made for each other. Seriously, who gets married at the end of AUGUST, in FLORIDA? See, that's what I said; two weirdos made for each other. Have a blast at Dragon*Con, and remember; STRUT, WERK, and make those steambitches EAT IT!
Oh, and Sept. 10th will be my 7th Denture Anniversary; I ate nothing but mashed potatoes, oatmeal, Underwood Spreadable meats (with a spoon, SO GREAT was my need for MEAT!), and pudding (no, not all at once) for like three weeks afterwards-- you KNOW I celebrate getting rid of that mess and having survived the ordeal afterwards with cake! And a BIG SMILE. :D
Your Pal,
Storm
Is it worrying that I saw the 50th wedding one, and thought 'it's actually very nice.' With the exception of the missing word, I would deffo serve that at any 50th weddings I went to!
Happy Anniversary! My husband and I celebrate 15 years next month. I guess 1998 was a good year for several of us.
Happy Anniversary! <-spelled correctly!
So glad I was on a diet for my anniversary. ;)
Holy crap. Product placement? A clip of a classic Peter Sellers movie that features a set of glaring eyes very similar to one of the cakes here, and an ancient Folger's commercial that set up a joke about a cake with bad piping on it. Yes, I'm going to get rich on the royalties from that.
I'm very sorry Craig and sendingintheclowns for offending your delicate sensibilities, however the hell I did it.
I'm out of here. So long and thanks for all the wrecks.
You and Jen were married the exact same date as my husband and I were. And based on your "1/3 of your life" comments, you're also the same age as my husband, who also made that exact comment last night at our dinner out. I know it basically means nothing, but I liked the coincidence anyway! Congratulations and wishing you many more years of laughter and Dr Who.
Am I the only one that noticed there are 3 toothbrushes on that last cake? Is this a marriage out of Big Love? For some reason I noticed this before the big giant set of teeth. Hmm ....
Thank you for picking my husbands birthday for your anni varsity (hehehe). Enjoy your weekend. PS He is 67, we have been married 38 years.
Hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
When I first started working in a bakery and having to write on cakes I wasn't sure how to spell anniversary so I would ask the customer and spell it how ever they did. That way if it was wrong it was their fault. Lol
Happy Anniversary! I hope you two have a good cake and many more years together.=)
Hoppy Anniversally! Thanks so much for sharing your selves and your talents with us! Cake Wrecks is truly a highlight of every day for me!
Happy 15th Anniversary - and many more to come! Have a great time at DragonCon!
@Will: You probably won't even see this, but I'm giving it a shot, anyway. I get what you were doing, now. I actually got a kick out of the old commercials, too! I can be just a little impetuous, maybe, but I mean well, and don't bite (too hard). I wish I had a "delay-a-day" option on my computer, so I'd have time to rethink and (maybe) not hit the "Well, THAT sounds stupid, but GO AHEAD, anyway!" button. I don't know you, and I don't "have" to care, but I was rude and I'm sorry for that. Peace.
=^u.u^=
happy bleated anniversary!
according to my limited research; the traditional gift is crystal & the modern gift is watches. hope you got something nice, even if it may not have been either of those.
Ok, *nobody* but NOBODY has made a comment about the cherry on the 4th "anniversity" cake...am I the only one with my mind in the gutter?! Hmm...lots of room down here...guess everyone's at Dragon-Con, yes?
@KarateLady ("...am I the only one with my mind in the gutter?!")
Well, I HIGHLY doubt that! Did you forget the crowd we're running with, here? Remember the movie "Field of Drains"? If you do, then you certainly remember the voice that said, "If you build a gutter, they will come."
All in good time...all in good time. =^-.-^=
I think they should put a breathalyzer lock on the piping bag. I'm feeling a little tipsy just reading these cakes.
Whenever I want to express my heartfelt appreciation and admiration of the two of you, I find that mel has already said it much more eloquently than I ever could. So, what mel (and Annie) said!
@JustAndrea - "...breathalyzer lock on the piping bag."....BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hoo, haha, heehee...good one! :-)
And I 2nd the eloquence of mel and Annie. Though I am compelled to belatedly add my own well wishes, so here they are: Happy Anniversary & here's to many more! Me & my guy had our 21st on the 21st of March this year, so we got about 6.5 yrs on y'all, but who's counting?! ;-) Can't wait for the next biggie - you'll have to do something special on the 20th or maybe the 25th...perhaps a giant cake wreck in the middle of Orlando? Bet Disney would sponsor it! And/or we could all help build it! Think Guinness would come & verify it? Just imagine...
Ken & Marylee needed a pair of "Angry Eyes" packed by Mrs. Potato Head. They got this cake instead.
bad cake...
an idea who's time will never come...
