Special Saturday Video: A Wreck Odd-To-See
May 25, 2013 The other day "devoted Wreckie" Roger H. sent me one of those videos. You know, the ones that first make you giggle, and then wince, and then cringe back in horror, and then start laughing because omigosh this is so bad, and then you go get your husband and make him watch it, whereupon you discover it's even more hysterical the second time through.
Needless to say, I knew Roger's creation was something special. Something that had to be shared. Something that I dare you to watch all the way through with the volume up.

Ah, one of my favorite renditions of "Also sprach Zarathustra." Gotta love the Portsmouth Sinfonia. If you're not familiar with the group's origins, I encourage you to look them up on Wikipedia. It's an interesting story, at least if you're a music nerd like I am.
I know I will be sorry I asked, but... what was that special thing about this video? I have seen all these cakes here before. ;)
And Marianna, it takes real talent to play that hilariously awful.

I'm with Rachel. That arrangement of Also Sprach Zarathustra was even more painful than the cakes (which is going some). The combination practically counts as a lethal weapon.
Remember when your kids were in 3rd grade, and they had to learn an instrument in school? And they had to practice every night? In your kitchen, while you were trying to make dinner, after a long day? This music sounds like that. It a glorious mess, and the cakes match perfectly.

Nonetheless, I believe you should open every day's post with this video. It would be kinda like starting the school day with the pledge of allegiance and "My Country Tis of Thee."

Oh I'm crying so hard right now. This is what happens when you first are starting out in Band back in like 6th grade and give the kids something that is out of their playing range. I just recently picked up my trumpet after not playing for 10 years and this is very similar to how it sounded. I think that's why it made me laugh so hard. Perfect music to these wrecks.
I think this should be used in all marketing promos from now on. It's the perfect combination of wrecky cakes and wrecky music. Awesome job, Roger H.!!

The music and the cakes were made to go together. That version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" reminds me of the orchestral bits of "A Day In the Life" by the Beatles--except, it's not good, hehe.

That is so painful it is hilarious. I remember starting the trumpet in grade school. This rendition would have been the envy of the whole band.
@SuBee -- I concur...I found a copy of that concert in the 99 cent bin at the dollar store and, recognizing talent, immediately bought two...and have worn out one already. In fact, whenever I watch " 2001 A Space Odyssey ," I turn down the volume and just play that song.... And, by the way, eons ago I played the violin in the junior high orchestra, and was often asked to play solo...solo they couldn't hear me.....
Everything about this video was spot on...or should I say spot off. Hee hee. Those cakes combined with that music and the fact that the slide show itself was completely off center were all brought together to create a wreckalicious, wrecktacular, wreck fest! Wreck on dude!
This was not what I was expecting...which made it so much funnier than I could anticipate! I'm still wiping tears from my eyes...
I almost PEED myself because I had to go SO BAD but I had to wait because I was watching this and WOWwwWOWww. THAT is just TOO horrible to be fake in ANY conceivable way. My Dad used to play trombone in a drum & bugle corps; HE called it the "Drunken Bugle Corps" because 1: he was always being funny, and 2: the corps had no talent. This reminded me of him!

It's my Friday & the start of a rare 3 day weekend for me. Then a Saturday Cake Wrecks post to boot?! You have brought tears to my eyes! Years of joy & tears of cringing pain, but it was beautiful, just beautiful! Perhaps I'd better buy a lottery ticket on my way home as this is obviously my lucky day! :)

I love the added touch of the "hiss and pop" of an old vinyl recording. Cool.
As a music teacher, I found this to be very familiar! A perfect soundtrack for the video! (And just remember, there are hundreds of people who listen to that every day as their chosen profession!)

My ears will never be the same, but it was completely worth it. I'm with Merry - the build up of the tympani as I WANT SPRINKLES appeared was indeed the highlight. The rest left my ears bleeding.
I had that same feeling I get when at the dentist and I hear the drill. Completely cringe-worthy! My 7yo and 2yo came into the room to see what was wrong!
That made my cat wake up in horror. The noise...

This sounds like what might happen if ST Sanders played orchestral instruments (Strauss shreds!).
The music captures perfectly the essence of wreck-creation: having a general idea of what you intend to produce, but not really having the means of bringing it into existence.
Unfortunately (and by 'unfortunately', I mean 'thankfully'), this does not rise to Theardare's standard of terrible songs, competently performed. A competent song, terribly performed, produces not existential angst but sustained laughter. This activates the brain's 'reward' mechanisms, which is useless in correcting behavior such as wreck-questioning.
Kazoos. That's the only thing missing. Lots and lots of kazoos.

But...I don't *get* why you turn DOWN the volume on 2001 to HEAR 2001...maybe it's just that it's after 1 a.m., and I'm still awake, and...*yawn* a little loopy....=^e.0^=
