What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

'Scuse Me, I Think Your Fly Is Down...

"LEAPING LILY PADS!! Is...is that what I think it is? Phil, are you seeing this?!"

 "...Phil?"

"...Will?"

"...Jill?

"You guys, snap out of it!"

 "I'm...I'm scared, Gill."

"It's unnatural, I tell you - UNNATURAL!"

 "Quiet, Bill! He's coming!"

"Hey guys! Wassup?

"They call me...TADPOLE."

Thanks to wreckporters Susan M., Abby G., Amber K., Becky L., Jesse D., Madi L., Sara M., and Tammy H. & Melanie D., who sent in separate reports of the same frog. I love it when that happens! My wrecky minions are everywhere - EVERYWHERE! Muah-ha-haaa!

Did anyone else hear the frogs from "Muppets Take Manhattan" going "Hmmmmmm..." throughout the whole post?

And the last cake...a basic biology/anatomy class may have said thid wreckerator.

Oh, the poor froggies! And what's up with the poor little one with the tongue that comes out of an orifice BELOW his mouth????? Let's just say that I've never seen frog tongues quite like these!

Sung to "I Believe I Can Fly"

Tadpole, please check your fly
I just nudge my friends and wonder why
It will haunt my vision every day
Doesn't that get in the way?
I can't look anymore
See me running through that open door
Tadpole, please check your fly
Seriously, check your fly
Tadpole, please check your fly

We have a Christmas party this weekend. I would SO buy that cake if I saw it, as a hostess gift.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

I just showed this to my hubby, and the sight of him recoiling, them doing that head-tilt thing as he looked at the screen, trying to find some visual explanation, was PRICELESS!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Oh dear God. i didn't see that one coming.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTrevor

BEST way to start out the morning...the facial expressions/captions were PERFECT.

Also, Sharyn, DARN YOU AND YOUR CLEVER CLEVER lyrics/song choice. NOW how am I supposed to get that image out of my head, that you've attached a song to it?! Niiiccceee...

lol

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

SaraV: That was absolutely my first thought too! ..to be suddenly flung from my brain as complete befuddled horror overtook my higher cognitive functions.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda H.

Well, you know, frogs ARE showing up deformed these days....

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

Even my four-year-old said, "That frog has a tongue on it's belly! And it caught a fly with it!" If a four-year-old knows, a decorator should know!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShawna

LOLOLOL!!!!!!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJeneric

Kermit flail for the Muppet reference!!!!
What is the furry blue thing behind Tadpole? It says a lot that it might be freaking me out more than the frog with a fly on his abnormally long joystick.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRixie

Gaaaaaaaah! those are frightening! whats with the last one... I wanna stay away form that one.... brings new meaning to Horny Toad...

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLori

me neither Trevor... It was the last thing i expected to " see " !! Cracked me up though! So funny ;)

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDiana

I also thought of the Muppets, but when they're in The Muppets Take Manhatten and Kermit has amnesia, "Hello Phil, I'm Gill and this is Jill and that frog over there is Bill". Love that. Also, why is that frog's tongue *not* coming out of it's mouth?! How does one not notice that?

You know what they say:
the longer the froggie's toes,
the rounder the tongue.

Er.

Overheard in gym class. Honest.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

That first frog's mouth looks like the aliens on Sesame Street. Yip Yip. http://tinyurl.com/arc7szn

Commencing chorus of "There's a Skeeter on my Peter (Whack it Off, Whack it Off)" in 5, 4, 3, ...

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkhereva

"Tadpole" LOL

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

gives new meaning to the expression "got a frog in the throat"......

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLittle Boy Blue

I think the initial frog is supposed to be from the game Zuma Bllitz.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Well you know what they say about a guy with big feet...

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

Do you think the baker knew what he/she was doing with the last one.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterstacy

Give poor Tadpole a break. He doesn't have any front feet so that's obviously just a stabilization device for hopping.

That is the story that will help me sleep through the night and I'm sticking with it.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered Commentercherylyn

It isn't easy being hung...

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

A subtle Muppets reference! Jen, you are my favorite.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAllison

I'm with you, Trevor! I can totally relate to the recoiling, head tilting reaction too! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
Jen, thanks for hopping to it and not froggetting to be green and posting these lick-ity split Oh, and your fly is open.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Red Rocket!!!! Anything else that comes to mind is just unprintable....

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

Sharyn, Haiku joy bwahahaha. The cake, I cannot comprehend, looks like something made by an 8 year old boy giggling loudly O_o

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Hoo boy, someone's gonna be knee-deep in trouble...

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNyperold

I'm Very Surprised that no one has commented on the Fry Guy in the background on that last picture. At least it looks like a Fry Guy but no way to know for sure if that's what it's actually suppose to be.

So at what point does it become the proper course of action to kill Humperdink and put the rest of us out of their misery?

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterIsolder74

@Isolder74: It is never the proper course to kill Humperdinck. One must reduce him to a freakish ball of misery, for he is a vomitous mass (much like these cakes). To the pain!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

There once was a frog from Nantucket...

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjackwire

scrolling, laughing, singing along to Sharyn ... spit out drink when I get to Haiku Joy's post. I really, really should know better than to have anything in my mouth when I look at this site. (which is more than can be said for Tadpole)

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

And, look, Jill appears to be covering her privates. (Is that a belly button on a frog?) A natural reaction, I think.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHeather M.

To expand on my previous comment (with apologies to Jim Henson):

Greetings! Ray Drecker the Frog here, and today I'd like to tell you a little bit about being hung. Do you know what's hung?

Well I am for one thing. You see, frogs are hung, and I'm a frog. And that means I'm hung, you see?

It's not that easy bein' hung
Having to spend each day tripping on my thing
When I think it could be nicer being more proportionately endowed
Or something much more convenient like that
It's not easy bein' hung
It seems you stand out in extraordinary ways
And people tend to point and stare 'cause you're
Not standing on two legs
Or able to sit modestly
But hung's the way the ladies like me
And hung can be cool and a conversation starter
And hung can be big like an ocean
Or important like a mountain
Or tall like a tree
When hung is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am hung and it'll do fine
It's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

@khereva: I've never heard that one. Care to share the lyrics?

I bet that last frog has a difficult time landing when he's hopping! He must be very precise!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Why aren't we all asking the obvious question: WHAT DREW THE FLY TO THE FROG'S...er...[insert completely vulgar/traumatizing/hilarious term for the frog's winky here] AND WHY IS THE FROG HAPPY ABOUT IT?

Which leads me to my next thought: Is this fly a blowfly?

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJason

That first one must be related to the Majestic Bagel-Nosed Falcon of Uganda.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterWill

The first one looks like a gas mask frog of doom. All I can think of is "Are you my mummy?"

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMisty

@khereva: OMG! I haven't heard that in years and yours, out of all the comments, is the one that made me burst out laughing. Great ear worm. Thanks!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMelonie

BADKarma ~ I'm pretty sure I just died. My mouth got bigger and bigger as I read farther and farther. (hmm...thinking...should I change the way I just phrased that? Nah! My CW buddies would never take that the wrong way, right?)

Ok, seriously? I just erased that twice trying to decide if I should hit submit or not. What the heck, I'll go for it then I'll hide behind Sharyn for the rest of the day!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJodee in WA

Look at me, here I am, right where I belooooooooong!!!!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTrudy

Thanks, SaraV, for showing me that there is someone else in the world that has seen "Muppets Take Manhattan"

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAidan

BADKarma - brilliant!

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

@BADKarma I couldn't get past the second line!!! I had to take a couple tries before I got through the whole thing...LOL'd my cheeks hurt. Thanks for the laugh!!

Gotta show this post to my dad; his name is Kermit.

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEla

Jen- Absolutely brilliant use of cakes and captions. Even better than Christmas Shoes! Sadly, I am in Starbucks and can't laugh as loudly as I want to. Haiku Joy, Sharyn--nice work! LOL

December 5, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjulimari

BADkarma! BAD, BAD, BADkarma! LOL

Jodee, you have a broken foot so you get a pass for the day- but only this once!

I was merrily reading along and wondering where this was going when WHAM (bam, ty, ma'am). I was jerked out of my reverie, toadly unexpectedly. I LOL'd until my energy petered out.

December 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

The white 'fly' is highly suspect. I do not think it is a fly.

December 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjinxe

Oh geez.. just when I thought frogs were kinda cute lol. Are they trying to turn me off of everything in the world? Cause all the wreckiness is doing it quite well lol. I think the wreckerators need to take a nice long vacation.

December 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

How come no one's commented on poor Will? He peered through the plastic cake cover to see what the fuss was about - he recoiled in horror - and HE LEFT HIS EYES BEHIND! Then, to add insult to injury, he was knocked down 50%.
