What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The Wayward Pupil

I dare you to play "I Spy" with your kids on this one:

"I spy...with my one little...AAAUUGGHH!!"

Thanks to Lori P. for bringing a whole new meaning to "a wandering eye."

And also for making Number1 laugh for like five minutes straight.

At first I thought she was missing the eye all together ... but it was even creepier after I found it. Ewwww ...
Thanks for the giggle! :)

It's rude and heartless to mock the disfigured.
The poor girl has no nose-No ability to smell delicious cakes.I'm sure she is happy to have the gift of sight, even with her snail-like eye.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Maybe she's part flounder?

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

I spy with my bulging eye.......!

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStacy D

It's not that bad and Alice and the cat each have two eyes. What am I missing here?

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I think the cat ate it. o_O

wv: mentingl: Any more of those 'adult' cakes? They make mentingl.

Squid Alice unsure
of Chessie's "hey there" brows.
Ah, young nose-free love!

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

I also thought there was just an empty eyesocket and felt bad for poor Alice and her missing eye...but then..to see the eye clear up there all googly and bulging...*shudder*

Might be creepier than the creepy baby cakes. Maybe.

At first I thought the candle was piercing the wayward eye but after enlarging the photo I can see Alice was just trying to get a better look.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Oh, meye...

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
Cheshire Cat: Oh, you can't help that. Most everyone's mad here.
[laughs maniacally; starts to disappear]
Cheshire Cat: You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself.

At first, I was like, "Hmm?"

But then, I was like, "BLEAGH! WHAT THE CRAP!?"

True story.

WV: kersove - I bet this guy does some really impressive kersove.

I wasn't going to comment, but my word verification is just too appropriate.

mesic - it makes mesic to think of how Alice's classmates probably teased her

I choked on my waffles.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Wow...go, go, Gadget eyeball! Did anyone else notice that the Cheshire Cat is missing his nose? (Totally understandable if you didn't see it at first, given that Alice is having some...issues.)

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBKWQRM

if you hold your thumb over just that one part, the rest of the cake is rather nice... not spectacular like Sunday Sweet's... but not too bad...

Then there's the wandering left eye on Alice (her left, not ours) ;)

I guess the decorator got a call that his house was on fire and just blobbed it on to leave quickly..... that's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

wv: ectsyce
My mom's "Death By Chocolate" cake is pure ectsyce!!

It took me about 20 seconds to find Alice's eye. Because, you know, I was looking where it was supposed to be. AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! They should have moved that candle over a bit and put it right through that wandering, deformed, almost-cyclops socket and ball so that poor birthday girl didn't get freaked.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Eet's not a toomahh!

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly Chapman

Oh no! I totally missed the second eye until I read the comments! Now all I can hear is "Ruth...Ruth....Baby Ruuuuuuuuth!"

Lots of love - Ruth

Aww, that's Wonderland for you. First it's a grin without a cat, now wandering eyes and a lack of noses. But no nose is good nose, as they say.

Stacy D...best comment of the day!

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Am I strange for seeing the left eye right away and thinking little of it, aside from the candle poking it?

Being a major Alice In Wonderland fan, this cake makes me sad. And it makes me laugh. Mood swing inducing cake! I would have been a almost cute cake if Alice wasn't a mutant.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJabby

Haha. I didn't see it till I read the caption "underneat." WAYWARD PUPIL! Priceless. If the profile had been done properly, there wouldn't have needed to be a left eye.

If this were a picture in the Wonderland newspaper, here's what the caption might be:

Alice suffered horrific burns when she spilled boiling tea all over herself. She had to undergo surgery, leaving her with a slightly modified face. Ever the optimist, she said afterwards, "Well, even if I'll never smell anything again, at least now I literally have eyes on the side of my head!"

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Jen, I have to say that all the wrecks out there make me want to start ordering decorated cakes for all family birthdays. I normally make them myself, but the chance of wreckie gold makes me willing to shell out the extra cash. Maybe start with my birthdays.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCortney

I admit, I missed it at first. I was looking for something "adult" in nature. You know, a lot of one-eyed snake references, etc. LOL
