What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

So funny ..I baked a cake for St. Paddy's Day and instantly thought of this site!

Why, you ask? Every time I bake, something goes horribly wrong and I inevitably think of you. Everything was going great for this cake, I had managed to color it TWO shades of green ..all my boyfriend had to do was get the cake out of the pan.

I know. Why did I even let him near it? Moral of the story -It was a one layer bundt cake in the beginning. It was most certainly two by the time he had helped me.

I don't remember the cakes . . . why were people not laughing uproariously during Shatner's performance? Thanks so much for the video. Best wreck ever.

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Is it just me, or does "Val Kilmer" look exactly like Dr. Katz, complete with Squigglevision?!?!

Stellar!

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterardie

I read that really fast and got all excited because I thought it was going to be about cakes that looked like bacon. Then I slowed down....

wv: nonsly-- kind of self-explanatory: not very cunning

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Oh, dear. I actually live in Muskogee county. If only we had something as cool as MEGAWIZARDDRAGONANIMEBABECON.

But we don't.

*sigh*

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterThe

Wow the Spock and Leia? Not to mention the poor sword.

My friends are down in Orlando for the con go check them out at the Twisted Heroes booth!

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterZiggyeor

For a minute, I hoped that the first line actually meant you were going to be in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Alas, it seems that you, like so many others, only picked my home town because it sounds funny and/or is in an old country song.

For the record, 99% of Muskogee County residents hate that song. How about next time you try an even funnier Oklahoma place-name? We have a Potawatamie, Okfuskee, Lotawata, and even a Hooker, OK. Or you could always try getting over the depression-era stereotypes.

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJenna

My favorite was the comment on the spock/leia cake...

"Love is illogical." "I know."

Totally made my day!

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCandace

@ Jenna - I've actually never heard a song with the name Muskogee in it. You're right: I just thought it was a funny name. Which seemed appropriate for, you know, a humor blog. ;)

I also had no idea there was a depression-era stereotype that Muskogee residents enjoyed scifi conventions. What are the odds?

Anyway, thanks for the other name suggestions - I'll file those away for future reference. (I especially like Potawatamie.)

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Ok. My Dad was born in Muskogee. People say I get my sense of humor from him. Note the phrase, 'sense of humor'. I always bring that with me when I visit Cake Wrecks, because Cake Wrecks is a *humor* blog. It isn't a formal information resource like Wikipedia (is for some people, but not John (thoJ), who has learned his lesson, one hopes).

Know what I think of songs, blogs, etc. sending up Muskogee? It reminds me of the funny stories my Dad used to tell about his hometown, and I smile.

Smiling helps me see the lighter side and helps me avoid ascribing evil intent to every utterance by others -- there is more than enough real evil in the world that I don't have to go around fabricating still more.

By the way, I haven't had time to check the Exhaustive Encyclopedia of Games (unabridged version, by Edmund Welles), but those dice might be wrong. Just thought you should know.

Craig,

Hey, that Buzz Lightyear one is actually pretty good.

Is it just me or does Picard look more like a Gelfling from The Dark Crystal?

wv cones: What Slave Leia's outfit by John Galliano featured.

March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Anyone else think Picard looks more like Voldemort?

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteralynxia

Yes! Shatner! \m/

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

My wife and I decorated ...errr... desecrated a very nice chocolate cake in honor of the Shat's birthday. I put "Bill- Happy 80rd B-Day" in horrible writing and she put pretty pretty flowers on it. The cake tastes good and the icing is pure sugar so that's all good too.

So this is a humour blog, eh? Fascinating...

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterI am still not Spock

Frowning blue batman gave me the sads...

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDJ Twisted Sister

"Love is illogical."
"I know."

Love it! Love! Did I mention love? Couldn't stop laughing. In fact, I'm still chuckling over it. That was just perfection.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLarissa

And you haven't even seen what's on the OTHER side of Gallifrey yet...

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Oh my goodness they made Wolverine look..so hmm can't find the words for it lol. And why does the Hulk look like Oscar the Grouch on steroids? What on earth is going on here.. other than horrible wrecks that is.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

those are some classic cakes. thanks for sharing...

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterButtonMad

That second Hulk cake... it looks like he ripped a little too far through his pants in the back to me.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShayna

No comments yet on the Silk Spectre/Comedian cake topper? It seems like a really roundabout way of telling your significant other you want a restraining order. Or that s/he should get one.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJess

They're to die "six," not "for."

wv-- belefes: I count it among my belefes that a wrecker could easily draw 2d4 on a cake when trying for 2d6.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRoland

What happened to Batman? He has really let himself go. . . And those hands! What is that? Adult-onset megadactyly?

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Oh, my! These are all, just . . . amazing.

Oh, excuse me --must get in the spirit of the day --
AMAZING!!!11!!11!!

The flipper-like things on Bat Fatman -- er, Fat Batman -- look to me like the ends of his cape pulled through his arms.

That, to me, makes it look even more like he's sitting on the toilet, holding the cape out of the way of falling in!

As for his serious face, well, that's Batman -- isn't he always supposed to be Deep and Troubled?

wv-heappol

If you heappol of the icing in one spot, nobody will notice what's wrong with the cake, right?

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEllen

Am I diseased if I actually think the Logan cake looks decent?

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDanger Boy

That is CLEARLY not Picard - it's Voldemort in his Quirrell-head incarnation...and Wolverine has undergone his secondary mutation into Lobsterine, with the added power of being able to fit an orange up each nostril.
WV - brasele - those Disney 'princesses' probably got fake-padded braseles.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCT

"The Picard Maneuver" is what my circle of friends like to call that little tug Patrick Stewart always gives to his uniform top. Hee!

(Oh, and I'd totally got to MEGAWIZARDDRAGONANIMEBABECON! Hopefully my Disney princess costume would be better than that cake.)

WV: ackoodo. What happens when Michael Okuda accidentally puts the wrong display on the Enterprise bridge computer.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShanti

The Picard cake really wasn't that bad... except his nose. That was WAY too big. The Wolverine one was actually quite funny, and I'm glad the designer also has a great sense of humor.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Muskogee. Heh. The derogatory song in question would be "Okie from Muskogee" (I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee, a place where even squares can have a ball"). It was popular in the very early 70's, about when I started college at OU. Many of my classmates, not to mention my favorite philosophy teacher, could readily refute the opening line: "We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee."

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally. Heh heh.

Littlefoot (who really should register sometime)

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Seriously, all cons should be called MEGADRAGONBABECON because that's what most of them are now, especially the babe part.

And Hulk #1 sure is happy. Maybe someone sprinkled some sugar in his gamma rays.

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBree

The guest star from Buffy... you were referring to Hinton Battle, right? a.k.a. "The Coolest Demon Ever"?

March 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBuffy

Oh my, too too funny, per usual. There was already an overload delicious wreckiness to chew on and then you added the Shatner video too. It was so cringe inducing I had to stop it 3/4 of the way through. I tried to watch it all, I really, really tried, but it was just. too. painful!

So thank you @Miss Mindy 11:25am for the link to "Wolverine: The Musical". I howled with laughter. "I'm gonna slice and dice my toubles a-way-ay-ay-ayyy" FTW!

wv: hariz - Hariz gonna be shocked by Voldemort's takeover of Captain Picard's head.

March 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKati

The first Hulk looks like a green Rowlf the (Muppet)Dog.

July 12, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkayk

I HAVE that sword thing that they made a terrible cake of!! And then I broke it after I tried fighting with it. For anyone reading, don't get in a lightsaber fight with a plastic sword. IT DOESN'T WORK.

July 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAyy

Shatner cannot do Frank Sinatra, he always does George Costanza - and he's really done a number on this song \:^/ OMG he so sucks, sorry Bill but you know it's true - give that man a cake, put it in his mouth to shut him up - and yet, the hand he gets! No accounting for taste - ?

April 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDoug Frazier

As someone who lives in Muskogee County, ok, I have to say... How did you know? You are so spot on on all of these. except for the ability to actually get any stars to actually show up. Yes, I used actually twice.
*sigh* I totally have to move.
