What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

After a couple really tough years, I find that this year, I am grateful for everything in my life. Every little thing. Good and bad. Because they all make up a life. The tough stuff makes the good stuff even sweeter. I now have my dream job working to protect the rights of others. I have a man who loves me as I am. I have a beautiful talented daughter who makes me proud every day. Everything else is just fluff to a good life.

I'm thankful for jewelry and shoes, which always fit, no matter how much your weight fluctuates over the holidays.

I'm thankful for so many things this year, but top of the list is my sweet, supportive husband, Tom. My job was killing me mentally and emotionally (and probably physically because of the mental and emotional damage) and my stress, frustration and all-around moroseness was making him miserable too. So, even though it meant trading a decent income for an uncertain future, he talked me into quitting my job. I've never trusted someone to take care of me when I needed it until now, but he has shown me it's ok to let someone else help carry the burdens sometimes, and that it is ok to quit when the situation cannot be redeemed. We've gotten closer and our marriage is much stronger because I was finally able to learn that. I really do have the best husband in the world (although I'm sure John, the husband of Jen, is a very close second :)).

My list of thankfuls is a long one. Guess the first one is my husband and 5 littles. Our home is full of light and laughter. God has truly blessed me!!

I'm thankful for my daughter and the joy and inspiration she brings to our lives. She was born preemie and has many significant develeopmental delays because of this. She is our miracle. So many special needs children become used to always being on the receiving end and having things done for them. She was just given a huge award as 2011 Volunteer of the Year by he Karate School (a karate school that specializes in children and youth with disabilities, but also has many non-handicapped students) recognizing the many hours she has put in helping with charity food distributions, serving at the church, raking leaves and doing yard work for shut-ins, visiting other shut-ins, and working in her karate dojo teaching the disabled preschoolers and other young children, cleaning and helping the sensei. She's 24 and still believes in Santa which makes Christmas even more fun for all of us. I cannot imagine my life without her.

I am thankful for my kids for the true blessings that they are. They are the one thing keeping me going during these hard economic times. One way or another we will make it through.

Thankful that I get to spend Thanksgiving with the sane side of my family this year (of course my branch will be bringing the insane so we'll see how that goes down- I'm sure there will be stories).

I'm thankful for my 2 boys and my awesome husband. He keeps me going when things get rough and he is truly one of my favourite things (well, people!).

I am thankful for the Disney internet fan community. In the past few years I have met so many awesomely geeky people. I never imagined that many of my "imaginary" internet friends could become such good "in real life" friends.

I know everyone will say something about family, but I truly am thankful for my daughter and husband. I waited 40 years for my beautiful daughter. I never thought I'd be blessed with the joy of my heart. Everyday I tell her how blessed and thankful I am that she's in my life. My husband because 4 years ago, we had the sheriff knocking on our door to evict us to the streets. Today through hard work, dedication and commitment to never let our lives get so messed up, I just bought a new, albeit used, car. I'm also grateful for having the most wonderful job in the world, where every day I get to 'play' and make wonderful memories for guests as they visit the Magic Kingdom of Disneyland.

November 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStar

I am thankful to have my dad back home from being across the country for months at a time, I'm thankful for my dog, Icarus, who kept me from being totally alone and kept me sane.

Okay, so, that's two things I'm thankful for, and not one, but, it's just about the only two things I have.

This has got to be on of my favorite Sunday Sweets! So many cute things in so many different themes!

I am thankful for my three kittycats (Mercedes Rose, Lady Godiva and Marley Barley) even when they drive me crazy meowing for their dinner.

I am thankful for my dogs - Shantz, the 7 1/2 year old English Pointer who still thinks he is a puppy, Hunter Nathaniel, the laziest English Setter you've ever met, Coco Chanel, a 3 year old pomerarian who turned into my service dog about 18 months ago, allowing me to enjoy shopping and finally eating in restaurants again and Boss Dogg, a silly 6 month old English Pointer who is so lovey once he settles down!

I am thankful for our house, which I complain about alot, but there were ducks in our pond this morning that the 3 hunting dogs pointed and after they flew away, Shantz sat on the edge of our deck waiting for them to come back.

Sunshine on chickens
and giggles of children,
no bill collectors
or overdraft statements,
a husband who loves me
and takes me to lunch,
these are a few of my favorite things...

BTW, just this week the sixth grade class burst into singing this song during art class. They didn't know all the words and I pulled the original video clip up on my smart phone for them to practice with. How funny that this is today's Sunday Sweet!

I'm thankful for the little one growing in my tummy. We've tried for twelve years, and now I'm sixteen weeks in and all is well. Couldn't be more grateful or excited!

Just one little thing?? Hm. I'm going with Doritos. Their fake cheesy powder that coats my fingers in a slightly unsettling way makes me happy when I am sad.

my DVR/PVR! I get very little time to watch TV with an 8 month old!

Although my cats are trying to force me to say I'm thankful most for them (and I AM thankful for my little moggies), I'm most thankful that my mother survived breast cancer and just got her 5-year yeehaw cancer free!! checkup.

I work for a nonprofit. It makes me thankful for even the smallest things. Food, clothing, shelter,,,,,,,,,but what I am most thankful for is a loving family. I pray that my children will know that they are loved the way that I have always known that I am loved and cherished.

I am thankful that my computer screen has been hanging in there long enough for me to read this post-- I'm trying to wait til after the holidays to replace it!

I am thankful for my mom, brothers and sister-in-law, my niece, my grandma's, the rest of my huge family, and very thankful to have such a wonderful man in my life and how him and his mom have made me feel very welcome in their family. And with our struggles to conceive, and through our loss, he's been an amazing support this year. I don't know what I would do without him.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

Thankful? I am thankful that my step-father, who is battling lung cancer and multiple health issues resulting from his treatment, is still with us and able to see how he, the life-long photographer, has inspired me to take up the mantle and become a professional photographer, too.
If it weren't for my step-dad, Mikee, I don't think I would have had the courage to put myself and my work "out there."
I am truly thankful for every day that he is with us.

I'm thankful for all of God's blessings in my life, and that we have enough money to pay off my son's college tuition this semester (it was due in October, but we won't have to pay the late fee for December, hooray!). When I was 17, I didn't think I'd find anyone to share my life, but I have a husband of almost 20 years, and four wonderful children. I'm thankful that I have time to volunteer in the two youngests' classes, and have a job to help my son through college. I'm thankful that all of my children have been saved, two of them before me.

But today, I'm mostly thankful that the turkey cake in today's post is so much cuter than the ones on Friday.

November 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMuria

Last Thanksgiving my Mother was in the hospital. When leaving the hospital for the night, I passed a couple in the parking lot walking into the hospital. The woman made the comment "There is nothing worse than having to go visit someone in the hospital on Thanksgiving". Frankly, there are so many things that are far worse. My Mother was still alive, my family was still together, we weren't homeless, we weren't hungry, we weren't lacking of anything. We can eat a turkey any day and we can have a family dinner whenever we want. We are a family intact. And for that I am thankful that there are far worse things than visiting someone in the hospital on Thanksgiving.
