What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Face Time On CW

This is so exciting, everyone: I had no idea there were Doctor Who fans in the Walmart bakery! Check this out:

How cool is that, huh? It's totally Lady Cassandra O'Brien Dot Delta Seventeen!

[crickets chirping]

What?

[Pin dropping. Loudly.]

What's with all the blank looks? Are you guys telling me you don't know who Cassandra O'Brien Dot Delta Seventeen is? Really?

Oh.

Well, here, she looks like this:

See, she's a human from the future, and she's had so much plastic surgery that there's nothing left but her face. Get it? (Really, I don't see how you guys survive without this kind of quality programming in your lives.)

Ok, now go look at that "cake" again, and tell me it's not her. Go on.

Hm? Oh. Yeah, I guess you do have a point: she doesn't have eyebrows. Or a nose. Or weird purply hair tufts. Or antennae. But if that's not supposed to be Cassandra O'Brien Dot Delta Seventeen, then I'm going to go out on a limb here and say maybe the Walmart in question should consider employee drug screening. Not that I'm implying anything by that, of course - nosirree.

Thomas R., you thought it was her, too - right?

Oddly enough, I totally saw Cassandra too. Nice to see I wasn't the only one. :D

I'm with you. I thought of Lady Cassandra as soon as I saw that one. :-)

Thank you for helping to spread the Doctor Who love! I squeed with joy when I saw my favorite show combined with my favorite blog. It was an odd sensation to have the squee combined with the shudder resulting from that scary cake.

Does icing count as moisturizer?

I thought it was a Madonna Who'sThat Girl Cake. Still ugly as sin no matter what it was supposed to be. It looks like it would taste like the 80's.

November 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

AT least she has here sunglasses with her.

OKAY-I've been really concentrating on this, up close and my take on it is...UUHH...UUUHHH. Lady thingy in the Cloud. I have no idea!!! EEEKKK!!! What a waste of precious time.

I totally knew who you meant...does that make me a geek?

November 16, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLizzi

Oh my gosh, that is sooo awesome! Give Joan Rivers a few more years, and that's what you'll get.

Moisturize me. MOISTURIZE ME!!!

November 17, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSpain

I'm not a big Who watcher, but even I knew who you were talking about. Well, not initially, not until I got to the visual aid...but as soon as I saw THAT I so knew.

November 17, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterM---

Sorry to get really anal but I can't help noticing people calling it Dr. Who (kudos for watching it though!). It's proper name is, and always has been, Doctor Who, with no abbreviations. That's why the spin off Torchwood works - it's an anagram, see? Orhwd doesn't really work...

Loving the cakes though ;-)

I think small children might recognise it as Spiderus from the kids' show "Miss Spider's sunnypatch friends".. in fact the features are almost perfect.

This is the best picture I could find to display

Why does it say "2001" on her head?

November 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKLZ

When I saw it, I was totally thinking that thing from Doctor Who! and then I read your note and I was very glad that I wasn't the only one. I'm only 14, and totally got it. But my dad, who introduced me to Doctor Who!, had NO IDEA what it was.

November 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

I saw this & thought "cassandra!" and then I read your post...brilliant! Glad to see great minds think alike!

November 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKimba

Moisturize Me! Moisturize Me!
It totally looks like Cassandra; is it bad to eat the last human?

November 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLodestone and Ladys Mantle

Oh, I thought it was the Face of Bose, or whatever that thing was, but I totally see Cassandra!!!

December 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAbby

That actually was the first thing I thought of!

December 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterahailes

I just found more reasons to love this site. And the geek party in the comments just warms my heart.

I showed my boyfriend this cake (just the picture) and he said "Hey, it is Cassandra!" and we both had a good laugh when we actually read the write up :)

December 14, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterlayna

I thought the purply hair tufts were goggles. And that she was just a alien Amelia Earhart.

December 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJug

maybe it's a sorry attempt at Spidarus from Miss. Spiders Sunny Patch. but who knows. -l.m.

I was super excited when you made the Dr. Who reference. My husband and I "can't" survive without our good ole Doctor!!!

January 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbretsgirl

Ahahaha! My first thought upon seeing it was "Holy crap, it's Cassandra! I can just hear her telling us about an 'iPod'!"

I'm so glad you watch Doctor Who. Seriously.

January 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commentererinjade86

No, I think that's Bjork!

February 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

here i was minding my own business looking at cakes and i have this dr. who business thrust into my consciousness. it had to happen sooner or later, but my god. horrifying skin face lady. i'm going to go curl up in bed now.

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKathyB

Yeah, You like Who Too. I knew you were good people.
It must be Cassandra before one of her recent surgeries since she has that tuft of hair and the eyebrows. But I could see the resemblance. :D

March 3, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMom

Don't worry. I actually knew who you were talking about right away. Yeay for geekery!

March 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenn V.

YAY FOR WHO!!! Like I needed another reason to love this site.

March 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Yeah! Another Who watcher! May I order a Tennant cake please :-)

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSam

lol i LOVE Doctor Who! it's a shame David Tennant is leaving... by the way it does look like Cassandra in a way, but i liked her best in the Doctor's body :]

July 31, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'm glad I'm not the only person who saw Cassandra! After Harry Potter jokes, Muppets references, and Threadless cakes, and witty snide remarks, you have finally proved yourself as a truly intelligent person with this Doctor Who reference.

August 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJynxed

I TOTALLY see that! Even the "lipstick" :0 D Hey...who DOESN'T love DW????? I would like to see them in my office RIGHT NOW!

October 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMeitrannan

I don't get along without Doctor Who. I have Obsessive Doctor Who Disorder (ODWD). LOVE IT!

December 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTessa

Hope this was made with moist cake mix, or it's gonna explode.

March 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTheCreepyTribble
