A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

HILARIOUSLY BRILLIANT! On behalf of my fellow Cake-wreck-a-holics, I think John (thoj) should put out a new Cakewrecks book, chock full of his hilarious illustrations. His ability to capture comedy and emotion with simple stick figures is amazing and leaves all in stitches. GET WORKING ON THAT WILL YA JOHN? These are perfect! Yep, I've seen those same expressions, hell, I've made those faces.
Is there even cake under that last one?? O_o
Okay, so my expressions were almost an exact match to Stickman John (thoJ), is that normal? I am not a Stickwoman...Wow...just...and is that a dead baby cupcake with bruised/black eyes?...because that's what it looks like to me...<shudder>
1) This sums it all up, doesn't it? These bakers don't have a clue.
2) That's a real wienie butterfly.
3) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, perhaps?
4) I think we found Goliath's baby girl. And John's stick-figure reaction says it all.
5) What did they die from? Probably had some kind of mallardy. This thing just isn't ducky. In fact, it's fowl. It's not all it's quacked up to be.
Wait, is there actually a cake under that last one? And did anyone actually eat it? I have to believe they dumped the whole thing in the trash or I'm never going to be able to eat today.
That 3rd wreck looks like the title of an Alice Cooper song. That's all I will say about that.
REAL DEAD DUCKS!!???
Real dead ducks...on a cake... O_o D: D: D:
I absolutely love John's cartoon work! Especially the 5th panel in today's post. That outstretched neck is EXACTLY how I felt. The emotions you convey in your drawings are hilarious. Keep up the good work, and Thanks!
But wouldn't "Real Dead Ducks" be a great name for a band?!?
Ohmigod, it's Laughing Sal done as a baby cake!
I think the 'baby' in the pink shirt isn't really a cake. I think it's birth control.
Yep, you nailed my responses exactly. Love it!
THE 4TH DRAWING IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Never enough internet for the day.
I'm laughing so hard at poor John pulling away in the one panel! I can't believe what people make into "cakes". Although that Clue one is pretty sweet.
There is absolutely no reason to put dead ducklings on a cake. Well, unless the cake is for The Bloggess...
The Clue game board one looks like it has the actual game playing pieces on the edible icing transfer. The second one is a butterfly, but I can't tell what species.
Well, duck that.
(I did the same pull-away-and-WTF face J(thoJ) did in that next to last panel. Brilliant. Perfect.)
Was the inspiration for the 3rd cake the thing that appeared under the bench in the last Harry Potter movie?
Also, who else wants to know the backstory for the dead duck cake? Did…did someone order it that way? Or was that the bakery taking creative license? Just…why?
(And for Karilon…pretty sure Real Dead Ducks is playing Lollapalooza this summer. …They're a Cake cover band. :P )
About the last one:
Uh oh. We had some of those same... things... in the "Easter Decorations" box we pulled out every year. They looked exactly like those. They were real?? Ohhhh noooo.
Oh, crap. Mom probably still has that box in her garage in the new house. <puts head between legs, tries to breathe slowly>
Oh I lost it at the dead duck cake. I can't stop laughing and my poor husband can't believe those are real lol.
Is that the giant baby from 'Spirited Away'?
Mike, I love your comments.
I totally want to rip off the #5 drawing because I feel like that a lot.
