What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Friday Favs 8/15/14

Some of my favorite new submissions this week:

The End Is Nigh! Quick, grab the essentials!

(That's peanut butter cake, right?)
(EXCELLENT.)

Misspelled?
Check.
Sperm balloons?
Checkity check.
Unintentionally suggestive inscription?

CHECK, PLEASE.

They tell me this is supposed to be a unicorn:

Yeeeeeeah.

Ever have something that's meant to be sweet & solemn strike you as funny?

If not, then prepare to judge me.

IN YOUR FACE.

I love it when things get so weird that even the baker doesn't know what's going on:

There's a metaphor for life in here somewhere.

And now...
the greatest baby butt shower cake...

OF ALL TIME.

(Photo removed at the baker's request. Please enjoy this lovely picture of Epcot.)

(Aw, Pooh.)

"Uh-oh, the legs have gone all stiff & creepy!

Quick, STICK A BOW ON IT."

Thanks to Jenn A., Michelle V., Cassandra F., Christina T., Dulcie H., & Anony M. for proving that's still less creepy than the human version.

Well, those gun cakes are yummy
WHERE did you go?!!?
Unicake's horny
In YOUR face, Chlo'
I don't know, what did the baker do?
I'll eat most anything, but Hunny, lay off the encased Pooh.

The end is nigh for the sperm balloons have come
The unicorn inflicts its horn upon a sweet face
Weirdness falls upon a stiff butt of a beloved childhood friend
The world crumbles as these cakes are made.

THE END IS NIGH!!!!!!!

We always celebrate with cupcakes, guns, and sprinkles. Is that wrong?!

Something new for me…I’m gonna be brief today, for the love of Pete:
Cake one: Wizard of Oz, take two: Rifles and cupcakes and sprinkles, Oh, my!
Cake two: Hey, I looked and couldn’t see a thing…it was like I was in some dark, damp tunnel…..
Cake three: In high school voted Most Likely to Not Come In from the Rain and Become Extinct (this is pure intellectual snobbery as it is an obscure reference to The Unicorn by the Irish Rovers.)
Cake four: Jen’s comment and Haiku Joy’s haiku on this work for me! Shouldn’t guild a lily!
Cake five: more intellectual snobbery – (in Eddie Izzard’s voice): Cake, or poo?
Cake six: (sorry Beyonce)

All the decorators (All the decorators) All the decorators (All the decorators)

If you make a wreck, then just put a bow on it
If you make a wreck, then just put a bow on it
You’ll be glad when you see that they buy it
If you make a wreck, then just put a bow on it

In the baking world, honey-based offenses are considered especially heinous. The dedicated woman who investigates these vicious attacks on cartoon bears is the writer Jen of Cake Wrecks. This is her blog. DUH DUH.

It's a shame, because that was a cute *idea*. When/if I ever have a baby shower, I'd prefer something creative instead of the a diaper cake (which I find gross and creepy even if executed well and don't understand how it became any sort of tradition... but maybe that's just me?). Only I WON'T be showing them rigor-mortis-creepy-leg bear as an example.

Haiku Joy's on a roll today!
Interesting you should choose that song @Sharyn. I totally thought of Elvis when I saw the unicorn!

Things I've learned from CakeWrecks today:
~Always put your drink down first!
~"With camo frosting" are words that should never ever go together in the same sentence.
~Frosting balloons almost always look like sperm!
~CCC's (patooie!) never look like what they are supposed to represent.
~Writing on a cake is not always the best idea. Happy Birthday is often very difficult. Congratulations? Fugetaboutit...Maybe you should just stick with a smiley face. :)
~When in doubt, question everything!
~Baby butt cakes are never okay.

August 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

1:(Hushed tones):"Here, the hunters are stalking the elusive CCC. Sometimes it's easier to track when they can follow the scat tracks..."
B: Hmmm...I know *were* they SHOULD have gone: back to school for a refresher course in spelling.
3:Yayy~(with a FLAIL, of course)~ I am Kermit THEE ghost!"
D:Yes. I KNOW that it's a sweet sentiment, but it is simply CRYING OUT for a "YO" at the end.
5:Okay... it seems that the brown one is unsure whether it's dressed appropriately for striking up a conversation with the somewhat fancier one on the left...(who, by the way, is pointedly ignoring what could very well be "Mr. Right"...
F: The wreckorator had wanted to do a stand-up job, but it was getting late, and he'd gotten a little behind in his work.
=^-.-^=

On fire, Haiku Joy! Last one made me laugh out loud. (I typed that out because it didn't just make me think I could LOL, but I actually, startle the animals, laughed out loud.

I was hoping for a comment to clear up the peanut butter cake reference and the mess of cake #1 entirely. Did the baker really smudge some of those fondant cupcakes? To make them fit in???

Haiku Joy...give is a rest.

[Editor's note- I thought I might borrow your comment, JD. You guys have forced me to be the dad and I hate being the dad. We have one of the best comment sections around. No trolls, no swearing. General kindness. However, a couple days ago, JD expressed a concern about the type of comments we usually get here. Needless to say, our regulars didn't like it.

Now, I'm all for healthy dialogue and disagreement in a comment section but that doesn't mean we get to bully those with differing opinions. At the same time, if you don't like the quality of the comment section, JD, you don't have to read it.

All that to say, this is the final comment on this issue. If you regulars mention JD or Pete again in a critical way, I won't publish it. And JD, if you criticize one of my commenters again, you're getting marked as spam.

Everybody understand? Good. Let this be the last time we talk about this. -john (the hubby of Jen)]

Been reading this for years and have never left a comment, but today I have to. I often laugh until tears are running down my face, at both the site, and the comments. Today's winner for me is "in YOUR face, Chlo'"!!! Oh I will never sing blue suede shoes again without laughing my butt off at that line! It was genius! I have had two years of living hell, and this site has kept me laughing, which I sure needed! I even show some of them to my kids, when they are appropriate! When they hear me cracking up, they all come running to see what is so funny on Cake Wrecks today! LOVE!!!

August 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSissy

First, @Jodee, I am also sending wishes for love and peace after your loss. Next, let me say that you've still got it, becasue I didn't even realize that was supposed to BE a camo cake.

@HaikuJoy--you go girl!

Now, about that unicorn cake. Has anyone else on this blog had a tooth that grew out in the wrong direction way off in places teeth are never supposed to be? No, just me? Well, the first thing I thought of when I saw that unicorn was my (long since pulled) errant tooth. I swear that horn has grown out of Corny's jaw, all the way up the face, and then out the head. That just doesn't seem right. Let me consult my copy of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." <diminishing footsteps> <long pause> <returning footsteps> Nope, that's not right.

I should know better than to look at CW while I have babies sleeping. I desperately hope my snort/choke/laugh didn't wake them up!! "Unknown life metaphore" cake: I think it's poo that didn't make it into the toilet. Though, to be fair, if I encountered a spikey toilet I'd be scared to use it, too. I suppose some psychotherapist could use it as a modified Rorschach Test. So what does it say about me? I'm still potty-training a toddler! :P

@ Haiku Joy: LOVE the bonus poems, I thought you were channeling your inner Lewis Carroll, it had been quite a while, so I looked it up and YES! I love hanging with the literates! Were any of these wrecks boiled in sawdust or salted in glue?
@Sissy: WELCOME!! And I laughed at you laughing...
@mel: what is RachelCrazyMum talking about? I didn't see anything earlier this week... :-/ I'm so confused...oh, and I think you should take Cat's idea and flesh it out as another dragnet /film noir skit...
@Jake and Me: I'm with you on the peanut butter comment? If they smeared anything on that cake, it would be Nutella...at least that's what it looks like from here.
@sendingtheclowns: The YO at the end...priceless!!

@John (thoJ): I'm sorry you had to be the dad when you hate being the dad so much. Have a great weekend though. Remember- it's the heat...yeah, the heat makes everyone all snippy...that's why Burning Man is held at the end of August, because that's the best time to do psychedelics and dance around naked in the desert playing bongo drums and lighting a big huge bonfire for all the latent pyromaniacs that attend...it REALLY helps with the snippy grouchies that people get from all the heat. The rest of the country just goes to the state/ county fairs and gets drunk on 7.00 warm beer and heartburn from too many corn dogs. Gawds, I miss Reno...<heavy sigh>

Not many people know later in life Pooh spent a lot of time talking to high school kids about the power of honey addiction, ending each talk with a vivid illustration of him scraping the bottom of the barrel. Just say no kids!

Haiku Joy, please don't ever stop.

Papa John (thoJ),
I solemnly swear that while I may be up to no good, I shall remember Wheaton's Law at all times and especially when commenting on Cake Wreckery.

In complete seriousness though, you guys are awesome, and I appreciate the Cake Wrecks team. You and Jen have brought so much joy to my life, countless smiles and chuckles, sometimes even outright howls of laughter. I know keeping the site running requires more behind-the-scenes stuff than most people realize, so THANK YOU for continuing to bring us wrecky goodness every week.

@HaikuJoy: Aw, that's SO sweet~thanks! Any time that I appear to disappear, it would have to be due to computer technical difficulties; not by choice. I really missed everyone here the last time my computer died!! I don't even remember when I first heard of CW, but I'm glad it happened. There isn't anything even remotely like this, that I've ever seen. It's just great! This is a virtual "clubhouse" kind of place. It's thoughtful, interesting, fun, funNY and unique; I hope our wonderful hosts J & J keep the light burning in the window (or oven) for a good long time. It's a sure bet that there will be a never-ending supply of crappy cakes to commiserate over& comment on! We're human, and woefully imperfect. THANK Heavens! See you soon! =^~.~^=
