What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Halloween Cuteness!

Did last week's creepy Sweets leave you in need of a hug?

It's ok. I could use one too. There was an It clown cake for crying out loud! AN IT CLOWN CAKE.

So gather in close friends, and let us heal together.

The line for hugs starts here.

(By Pasticci di Molly)

Now isn't this a happy Halloween cutie?! Look at her ringlets! Who could resist giving this sweet mummy a little squeeze?

Or this one?

(By Little Cherry Cake Company)

Ok, maybe not as girlishly cute, but Murray's still adorable. And such enthusiasm!
C'mere big guy!

Jack-o-Mickey would totally hug you for an uncomfortable amount of time,

(By Kaylynn Cakes)

...if he had arms.

Uh oh, looks like this little one wants in on the hugging action as well.

(By TuffCookie Cakes)

Just look at that dead-eyed, er ... doe-eyed stare.
Hug time!

But before you get caught up in the spirit and go wrapping your arms around just anybody, please be sure that the hug-ee is as willing to embrace as the hugger.

(Submitted by Marlissa D. and made by Flour Child Cakery)

Cuz ... things might get awkward.

Also, go easy on the squeeze-y.

(Submitted by Wendy H. and made by Bluebird Cakes)

We wouldn't want anyone to lose their lunch. Literally.
Yeowch.

OK, so spill your guts,

are you not a hugger?

(By Cake Art by Dana)

You're not alone. I have a feeling this guy would prefer not to hug it out either.

In fact, some people will go to any lengths to avoid them.

(Submitted by Kristi and made by Cakes by Jyl)

Hmmm, now witch way did she go?

But even if you prefer creepy-crawly to touchy-feely,

(By Sweet Disposition Cakes)

I bet we can still crack that facade.

I mean, you can't deny that this candy-corn-kitty-cat-cake is uncontrollably cute.

(By The Cake Girls)

It's hypnotizing me with its cuddle-powers!

Heck, I'd even cuddle the crap out of this 'spooky' cake too.
It's dripping with adorableness.

(By Andrea's Sweet Cakes)

"Beware?" "Get Lost?" "No Kids?"
HA! More like, "Beware! You're about to get lost in cuteness! No kidding!"

There now, feel better?

I love hugs from my mummy!

This is just what we needed after the horrors of wrecks in the past week.

The one from TuffCookie Cakes looks like Squee from the comic I Feel Sick by Jhonene Vasquez

Dawwwww, the zombie teddy bear Fluffel made it onto Cake Wrecks! (If you want to make your very own, you can find them under "Kits" and "Patterns on the site.)

Love these! I'm not a fan of creepy/gruesome Halloween, but show me a grinning Jack-o-Lantern or adorable kids in cute costumes and I'm all over it. And gorgeous cakes? Bring it on!

The little doe eyed huggy guy is actually a comic book character. He's Spooky, from Jhonen Vasquez's I FEEL SICK. http://www.slgcomic.com/Spooky-Squeek-Toy_p_322.html

I think it would be adorable if someone were to *drop* the (#9) house cake on top of the witch-legs cake (#8 ),"Wizard of Oz"-style!
=^~.~^=

Thank you!!! Seriously? An IT cake??? That kitty in the candy corn pumpkin broke my heart wide open with her adorableosity. I should just put a direct link to Sunday Sweets on my pinterest board. :-)

Yicky-gee...I don't like the way the not-real-but -still-creepy guts are hanging out of the not-real-but-still-cute little teddy bear. Excellent reproduction, though (of whichever came first)...! :-p

Lindsey, you are a good writer.

The little guy on the 4th cake is Spooky, from Jhonen Vasquez's I Feel Sick comics. I have the squeaky toy. :3

Aww that one black skeleton guy is Spooky from the comic "I Feel Sick." how cute!!

October 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHeather G.

I want to squish those spiders though, ew!

October 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJanet

I have to point out that the chubby skeleton is a knock off of Spooky from I Feel Sick. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Feel_Sick) The cake makes no other references to the comic so I'm going to assume they just googled "cute skeleton" and used whatever they found. Not very original at all.

That was truly a palate cleanser from last week - especially Friday! (blech) After scrolling through this post I saw the line, "You want Vaginas?" I hastily scrolled back up to Cute Mummy (the itty bitty shoe swirls!) to calm myself.
Thank you. We needed this.

So the little skeleton guy, I know that the name on it is supposed to be pronounced "Mason"... but I seriously read it in French first and was going "Maison? Who would label a cake "house"?" I think I've lived with the Frenchie's for too long.

For those of you who are nervous about the spiders (as cute as they are), you might want to check out www.simonscat.com for the new film, "Scary Legs."
