What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

Passive Aggressive Notes, eat your heart out. ;)

How, Mary L.?

Smilies make everything better. Here, I'll show you:
I despise you all, you bunch of idiots. ;)

See? The little ;) shows I'm joking! ;)

Also, last I checked California was still attached. Just sayin'.

UPDATE: Yes, my loyal and attentive Wreckies, I DID see the apostrophe is in the wrong place on this cake. Rest assured I am not advocating some new radical apostrophe-placement coup. It's bad. Baaa-aad.

Q: Hey, what's better than a mean goodbye cake?

A: One that's misspelled! Duh.

"That's nice of you to say, but it does seem like you're a little biased, being the seller and all..."

Chris, Heather, Ellen F., Mike, & Erin M., are you guys still here?

I think I'll start putting those cakes on co-workers desks who AREN'T leaving, just to see what happens.

Oh dear.
Sometimes its unclear if the fault is with the cake decorator or the cake buyer.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBaking and Mistaking

And the apostrophe is in the wrong place....pretty sure it goes after the 're, not just the e.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

Haha, "go back to jersey". Such lulz.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMorgan

Nice apostrophe there, Denmark.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Warden

I lived in Denmark for six months after college. I really hope cake number four wasn't intended for me!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLittle Fish

I'm shocked that you didn't mention the misplaced apostrophe in "your'e leaving [sic]"!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Imaginary Reviewer

apostrophe problem on the 'hooray you're leaving' cake. :)

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Dear Lord, are those cigarettes on the last cake?

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHeather Lickliter

Don't forget, wrecks MUST have incorrect punctuation...HOORAY YOUR'E LEAVING...WTF? Sooo close, too! Love the 1st one, though, in all it's dissing wreckiness.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrish...

Go back to Jersey? Woah woah woah...let's not say things we don't mean here folks! I mean that's just HARSH.

I think my last boss would have gotten me one of these cakes if she could have done it and still maintained her sickeningly sweet exterior facade. There sure is a lot of passive aggressive cake decorating going around these days.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeslie

But just look at the care that was taken in creating the image of California!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCheryl

In some circles, "Go Back to Jersey" really isn't that much of an insult. :P

...Though it is pretty funny. If I'd gotten a cake like that in college, I would have taken the advice! (But that was in CT.)

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRebecca

At least these coworkers have sense of humor I guess.

What's up with the indian face on Pat's cake?

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChiclet

As always, these mad me laugh so hard. The first one is the definite winner in my book followed by the flag one. Too funny

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMrs.Naz@BecomingMe

I'm laughing so hard at all of these cakes. See?! Simple is good! Oh, I think I would laugh my butt off if I ever received one of these cakes. (Mostly because I'm secure in my friendships; people just like me.)

I also learned I've been misspelling "you're" all these years. Apparently the apostrophe comes between the R and the E. Now I know...

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDangGina

At least the "Hooray - You're Leaving" cake it really pretty. That makes it all better!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAce

OMG...of all the misplaced apostrophes I've ever seen....that takes the cake! (pun intended...)

your apostrophe e?!?! wow.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMrs B.

Hmm, which is sadder, the random Pocahontas, or the missplaced apostrophe in you're? I think the Native American would be more moving if it had a single tear like in those littering commercials.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterProsy

wow, I feel the love...

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCrazyKwilter

Getting some good cake ideas here ;)

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDonna

I also like the improper usage of the apostrophe in the "Hooray your'e leaving" cake....

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLindsay F

LOL! I also love the YOUR'E. I have to admit, that's a new one for me.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersergeilovestonya

"You're leaving", not "Your'e leaving". ;)

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDeanna

On the norweigian one, I've never seen that particular spelling of "you're" before: your'e.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'm sure you already got at least one comment on this. But, "your'e" is definitely misspelled on that cake. :)

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

LOVE the "pat" one....what's up with the little indian lady? she doesn't seem too happy.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterpeewee

No comment on the position of the apostrophe on the Denmark cake?

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBuck

Oh my, did California finally fall into the sea?

Guess it was so unimportant it didn't even make Twitter. Humph.

On the other hand, there's a few people in my past I wouldn't mind giving that first cake to.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjengersnap

Not to mention the misplaced apostrophe on the "hooray, your'e leaving" cake. Too funny! You make me laugh every day!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSusan L

I'd like to know some of the back stories on these. Too funny!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjenlaser2015

Love the poor punctuation on the 4th cake. Mean and dumb go together so fabulously.

And wuddup with that Indian? WTF is that supposed to be about? Did someone quit the cigar shop?

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCate

On the Norway cake, "your'e leaving"? They get a mean cake with incorrect use of an apostrophe!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSabrina

Hmmmm....the apostrophe is in the wrong spot on the Hooray cake. Unless I am missing a letter between the R and the E when I spell 'are'.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCarly

Thank you. Had a bad day, this made me smile:-D (in this case the :-) is not to show that I'm kidding).

Was happy to see my flag on the cake, I feel that this is the closest I'll ever come to a Danish wreck since you'll have to have cake decorations to make wrecks...

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKira

I would love to know the stories behind these.

Angie (from over at www.HalfAssedKitchen.com)

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHalf Assed Kitchen

It looks like someone rolled some joints and put them on that last cake.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHorribleLicensePlates

Perhaps the "Good Buy" is referring to the funny cigarettes on top of the cake.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterD.B. Echo

Is the last cake topped with hand-rolled turd cigarettes?

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBradlio3

The "Good Buy, Amy" cake appears to have cigarrette butts all over it. What's up with that?

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermadrobins

the first one is obviously for an american history class...

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterkara

If only people would be so happy that I'm leaving...or maybe they are? Hmmmmm

Wow. There are some mean people in the world. :(

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFreedomFirst

Awww... these cakes brought me back to a place I didn't want to go... my high school graduation cake said, "Congrats! Now get out!"

I'm not joking. But I can't complain about the professional execution of my cake. These are pretty wrecky!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKat

Way to be blunt, people. Couldn't they even add a Goodbye, Best Wishes or a "We'll miss you" (quotation marks included, of course)?

But I guess if you are going to tell it like it is may as well say it in frosting!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterknitorpurl

I LOVE the spelling error cakes! Although, the Good Buy Amy cake could be redeemed by the portion sizes drawn out on top--nice big pieces!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLinda B in San Jose

I would be an unhappy Indian too, Pat. Your'e cake sucks as much as the Denmark mis-apostrophe

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSarah, The New Girl

Ah, mean-spirited cakes. So sweet, yet so bitter. I'll take a slice from each one please!

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCalantha

I especially like the misplaced apostrophe in the second-to-last cake. Ouch.

March 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMallory

ha! That last one cracked me up!
