What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Funny

I love labels. See, I titled this post 'Funny', and therefore it is, right? I think that's the theory behind this cake, anyway:

Maybe we should try that with all cakes. See, this next one could be "Lizard Crushed Under Petrified Easter Egg":

Poor guy. Those eyes just about popped out, didn't they?

"What Happens When You Ask For 'Happy Birthday Jaime' Around St. Patrick's Day":

And "Recycling Soggy Corn Pops*":

To quote
"TV star" Alec Baldwin, "Mmm, mushy mush."

Happy Patricks, Sarah S., Steve R., Amy S. & Jeremy E.!

*Speaking of which, Corn Pops has the most insane website for a breakfast cereal I have ever seen. Has Kellogg's gone 'round the bend?

@ Kelli--J'aime" is French for "I like" or "I love", as in "J'aime CakeWrecks". "Mon ami" is French for "my friend". Just had to set that one straight.

And I do believe that the rainbow cake is one of the scariest things I have ever seen...at least, among things claiming to be edible.

CW1 looks like it was a shamrock-birthday cake for Trish, and when it wasn't picked up, they made it "Irish."

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermare

Someone at Kellogg should be fired for that website! (needless to say, the cake decorators should go too!)

Yeah, agreeing to the trippy quality of the CornPops website. It reminds me of the "fruity oaty bar" commercial in Serenity, which is to say, Japanese... on crack.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterIndecisive

I went to the Corn Pops website and got an obnoxious enough message telling me they want to force me to use Expletive Deleted Flash (TM) to view the site, having turned it off by default.

I can only imagine what the Expletive Deleted Flash (TM) animation is like.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTed S. (Just a Cineast)

The thing that intrigues me more than anything else about the CornPops website is that it apparently had to load four different times before I could get to the content.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJagyularr

WTF is up with the corn pops website? It's the best web advertising I've seen.... almost as good as the chupa chups website.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMary Jean

lmao at the cornpops.

Is it just me or does it look like someone peed all over them? ewwww gross, I don't like my cakes shiny and wet looking.

Congratulations for the bloggies!!! Aren't you proud with not one, but TWO prizes!!???
You deserve it!

I've often wondered why my son is so fond of Corn Pops. I've also had many moments where I ponder why he has so much darned energy and where the heck he gets it from. Thanks for solving my dilemma!

Apparently, Corn Pops have some form of speed in them, and the Web Site designers eat ALOT of 'em.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrish

Since most of the people I know who eat Corn Pops are adults with "the munchies" on a regular basis, the website seems just about right.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Wow, that Corn Pops website is crazy. I had to leave before finding out if the boy and the monster would indeed become BFF's because the flowers with the mouths were truly frightening.

I hope Jamie did have a happy Patrick because happy Patricks are make the world go round.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenny

At least when they ate some of it, it made it square and centered. I bet it looked even worse.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMargaret

LOL at anyone believing those are actually Corn Pops. They're butterscotch discs.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

And Kelloggs fired Phelps for one lousy bong hit? Somebody was smoking way more than that when they made that Corn Puffs Site!!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Oh my gosh, that corn pops site was INSANE!! I was stunned into silence and couldn't stop watching. Crazy.

I think those corn pop looking things on that cake could be butterscotch candies. Did they melt though? So yuck!

Thanks for the laughs!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLindsey

You should see how weird the Corn Pops site is without Flash installed. My work laptop usually ruins all of my fun, but seeing that creepy Corn Pops website sans flash really cracked me up!

Borbu -- what you ask for a shot of when you've have too much bourbon.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlabdogs42

Hey, how are you doing? Hope all is well

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeon Basin

Yuck! The "corn pops" one looks like someone opened a can of corn and dumped it on the cake, corn juice and all!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLittle Scarf Girl

AAHHHHH! Why did you make me go to that Corn Pops webstite? Freaky

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJessica

That corn pops web site is the best! Thank you mushy corn pop gold cake.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteracademic poser

That website seems a little excessive for breakfast cereal, doesn't it?

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChristine G. Hodge

Blargh, sticky slurry all over that sad, sad cake. And it looked like it was going to be so happy, with the rainbow and everything.

The "Irish" looks more like a label. What, is the cookie flavored with Baileys? Either that or, "What's the guy's name? Eh, I can't remember. It's got something to do with being Irish. That's good enough."

WV, 'trathr'--Paddy said: "Faith'n begorrah, I t'rather celebrate by rais'in a pint than with that wreck of a cake!"

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa (& Billy)

Finally, truth in advertising!.....
.....I mean the 'Irish' cake not the Corn Pops Cereal Website.
The day I see mouths on a daisy eye is the day I put myself in the nearest mental institution. Yikes!

I feel for that Boy'o Jamie however it could have been worse....
....he's birthday could have been on christmas!
(Come on imagine it for a minute, green and red frosting, Santa.....yet there it is....yes, Jen there could be more worse things that a Irish birthday cake wreck)

Happy St. Patty's and...
Peace,
Clueuin

P.S
istam: when you stammer to much. I stam, I stam, ah forget it!
Funny no?

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterclueuin

Anon @ 2:49 - so glad to know that I'm not the only one that realized they were butterscotch candies. I thought that maybe I was hallucinating since everyone else seemed to be seeing Corn Pops (which look totally different).

Still can't believe the Happy Patrick Jamie cake- so pathetic.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlison

Cornpops' site looks like it might induce seizures. Talking lizards just scream mind-altering recreation, somehow.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterthe mighty guin

Someone over at kelloggs is seriously deranged!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBigMomma

"Lizard Crushed by a Petrified Egg" has brightened my day. I could almost hear the heavy THONK! as the egg made contact.

Wow, mushy corn pops, a cake trying to be Irish.......this is one boatload of FAIL.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCalantha

This post was worth it just for the link to the corn pops website. They must be trippin'.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I think your post belongs in the Blog of "Unnecessary" "Quotation Marks" - I mean, did you intend to question Alec Baldwin's capabilities as an actor (gosh, not that I'm blaming you... I mean, c'mon he IS a Baldwin after all!!)

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

I think the "corn pops" are actually butterscotch disc candies covered in butterscotch or caramel.

Talk about a sugar rush!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenn

OMG! That pop's site was hilarious! I enjoyed going to Japan and being on a crazy show. Haha!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

pigs with flappy wings .. now i've seen everything (i hope) ... that site is JUST SO BAD - i'm really, really, really glad i didn't have the sound on when looking at it .... oh, and the cakes, fantastic wrecks, as usual.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

oh my effing god, the corn pops site is like an acid trip. my dog is barking at the screen.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternikki

I just about had an epileptic fit looking at that website...

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMonica

LOL someone had a one track mind when they did that Happy Patricks birthday cake lol

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSunshine

I just went to the Corn Pops website and it like someone ate one of these cakes all by themselves and then while on a sugar icing induced hallucination created the website. The rapping lizard was just too weird.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFight Klub Ninja

I was reading your post when my laptop battery died. (Just as I clicked the cereal link) By the time I hade gotten the power cord, I forgot just what I was doing and when the machine reloaded (sound before screen) I was totally at a loss for the strange sounds my new laptop was making. I may actually have been relieved to see that sight as scary as it is.

wv: warally - "Ah warally let my kids eat sugah cereal."

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Whoa- what's with the drippy corn niblets at the end of the rainbow? Totally gross.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChatRabbit

I was definitely just mesmerized by the cornpops website... wow. just wow.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRenée

Irish...I hadn't seen the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

wv..entic...an ent with a tic...it's late and I have no imagination..sowwy.

I saw my first CCC today. It looked like a green blob. I think it was suppose to be a shamrock.

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterrainlight-lyn

If that first cake was sold around Notre Dame, I wouldn't see an issue with it. Since I grew up there, I don't even see what could be wrong with the cake! Go Irish!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSummer

I personally thought that the comment on the "tv star" in quotes was the funniest part of this whole entry! :D

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHeidi

Corn Pops website...definitely on CRACK!

March 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

That website hurts my brain

March 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPeta

Corn Pops definetly are unique in their website design.

Oof, those cakes are ssooo not appetising.

Sorry for the bad spelling
Mae

March 18, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterfalcon

@Karen: If you click the link, you'll see the commercial Jen's referring to, in which Alec Baldwin uses air quotes when he introduces himself as a "TV star".

March 18, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbionelly

That Corn Pops cake could use a little blue pill to perk it up a bit

March 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Wow yummy...;D
Happy Patricks Jamie..lol..
This cakes are really funny..;D
