Mardi Gras Sweets
It's Mardi Gras this week, but we're going beyond the traditional green, gold, and purple:
(Ana Beatriz Carrard, Brazil)
Oooh, I like the softer colors! That teal especially.
And classic black-and-white is classic:
(By Vintage Bakery in Columbia, SC)
I hope this was a wedding cake, and the reception was a masquerade. Mmmmm.
::immediately gets lost in a pretty daydream::
Some of these are more carnival/masquerade than specifically Mardi Gras... but I think you'll forgive me:
(Silvia Caballero Cakes & Design, Argentina)
...because look how cool. That color combo! YES.
I'm always of the opinion that we need more emerald green in our lives:
(Gateaux Sur Mesure, Paris, for Carnival Cakers)
Yep. That'll do. (Those dry-brushed gold bits are A++.)
This understated beauty would make another perfect wedding cake:
(Meadowsweet Cakes, UK)
And this beauty is anything but understated:
(Sophia Fox, Portugal, for the Carnival Cakers collaboration)
Obligatory reminder that this is cake. Wowza.
This one actually made me gasp a little:
(Sweet Ruby Cakes, Australia)
Right? Just... wow. I'm having a hard time believing it's cake and not perfectly tailored cushions.
I just realized something, minions: all cakes should wear pretty masks.
(Cake Art Studio, Dublin)
Especially if they look like this.
Or this:
(Kelvin Chua, Malaysia)
That corset layer is breaking my brain. See the little fabric wrinkles? How?
And my final argument for making all cakes wear masks:
(The Little Cake Patch, for Carnival Cakers)
Boom.
Just like that, I'm onboard with green, purple, and gold again! Love the lime green with peacock feathers, and that mask design is magic.
I hope these make you smile! Happy Sunday, Sweets fans, and may your Tuesday be extra Fat. ;)

those cakes are beautiful!!! it is fun during the week with the cake wrecks and then we get to enjoy the beautiful cakes each sunday and that you give them credit!!!
That subtle filigree swan on the mask of the corset cake is amazing. I want that in fabric.

These are beautiful! I love masquerade dominos so, so, so much!
That woman cake, though... part of me is saying it's gorgeous and incredibly artistic, and the other part of me is going but, but, but... disembodied hand! :-O
WOW! They are all fantastic, each in its own way! Impossible to choose a favorite. Such imagination!
Wowie wow! These are from all over the world! They are amazing! I agree completely with Libby about enjoying each week of Sunday Sweets! Each week I laugh with you, and on Sunday I just smile and enjoy the artistry.
And side note to #8, totally want that cake stand...
Ooh, I love these all! Almost as much as I love the wrecks
Ok, wow. Now you have me imagining a masquerade wedding/reception, and I'm honestly getting lost in the fantasy. Black, white, Gold. Wow.
