On Cake #5, you can just make out “ington DC tro-something” around the corner from “Wash Me”. Best guess is it was a cake made in celebration of Washington DC’s metro area (since it includes both subway lines and athletic team jerseys) with really unfortunate letter placement. Too bad, because it’s actually a pretty cake otherwise.
Thank you, SaraCVT for explaining the "wash me" thing. It is a well executed cake, aside from the "what-the-heck??!" factor.
I think the wash me cake is a lot prettier than that scary poo thrown cake at the bottom lol. I don't know what I would do if I had a cake turn out that way other than cry and then not buy it.
Even pathetically ugly cakes can taste delicious.
It's hard to believe the 'Wash Me' cake is accidental. Yes, it looks smart to do lettering like that (if it's done well), especially as 'Washington DC' is too long for one side, but breaking it just there? On the side with the jerseys?
Also, is that a hippo? If so, it's nothing like as well done as the architectural bits, but what else can it be, and what is it doing there? It doesn't appear to be the mascot of any Washington team.
The letter placement on cake 5 is pretty clearly deliberate. Everything about the cake is far too carefully crafted for me to believe that they just randomly stuck the letters up there. My guess is that it's an in-joke.

Cake #5 made me think of a "Far Side" picture. The parents and children are standing at a window and see slugs climbing on a birdbath (I think. It's been awhile). The father exclaims, "See kids, the slugs have returned!".
George Washington University, whose colors are buff and blue, has a bronze hippo statue given by the university president to the class of 2000. The plaque tells of George and Martha watching hippos playing in the Potomac and ends...
"Art for wisdom,
Science for joy,
Politics for beauty,
And a Hippo for hope."
The hippopotamus is not native to North America, and the story was invented for fun.
