What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

When More Is Less and Less Looks Stupid

It's Use Less Stuff Day, bakers - not to be confused with USELESS stuff, since we all know cat toothbrushes are never happening anything.

So let's talk about this:

THIS IS TOO MUCH STUFF.

(Side Note: Who brings a Batman plate to a Star Trek Beach party? I mean, REALLY. Let's stay on theme here, people!)

And furthermore:

THIS IS ALSO TOO MUCH STUFF.

Bakers, imagine - if you will - a world. A world where you use LESS stuff.

I SAID, "IMAGINE IT!"

That's better.

Hang on, we seem to have overshot in the opposite direction.

Tell you what, bakers, try this: how about a single, tasteful accent?

::long, drawn-out, exasperated sigh::

(It's a strawberry. Beyond that, I have no answers.)

Right. New plan: let's work to your strengths!

Presenting...

RANDOM FLOTSAM CUPCAKES

Super Bieber Rangers, GO!

Thanks to Tony S., Kari N., Christen F., Scott J., Marc B., Lisa F., & Claire O. for making the Batman 'Trek Beach crossover look like... well, a day at the beach.

(P.S. I'd like to point out that the "one month old" cake is the oldest pic I have left that I haven't posted yet... but that would be a lie. And see, John? I DID USE IT EVENTUALLY. )

Actually, cat toothbrushes do help *IF* you have very patient and tolerant cats. 2 out of 3 of our current cats get teeth brushed every morning. 3 is still in the let me play with your mouth with my hand phase of training (much more skittish than the others and hasn't been here as long).

We're so sorry, Father Albert,
We're so sorry that these Cake Wrecks cause you pain, oh boy,
We're so sorry, Father Albert,
But these bakers are so dumb and they just won't go away.

I think the 1 month old cake is intended to have a similar cake and add another strawberry each month? So at 12 months it will go all the way around?

Second one: The "too much stuff" was essential, as an excuse for the placement of the ONE item needed to hide the botched spacing of "BIRTHDAy."

Can we also talk about how "Mazel Tov" is misspelled?

We not only went to no stuff, we blundered right back into classic cake wreck territory: bad spelling!

It's a cake with a month-old strawberry, obviously. Can't say they didn't warn you! ;)

I would totally visit BatTrek Beach.

Well, if the "Happy Birthday Mom" is imagined as a joint effort from a bunch of kids, with each one contributing something representative of their relationship, then I think it's kinda sweet. (But then I was one of those mums who was quite happy to wear a lovingly crafted spraypainted pasta necklace out to brunch on Mothers' Day.)

So is the cake itself one month old?

Well they sure covered up the fact they probably misspelled girl on that cake. At least the strawberry was edible lol considering the rest of the flotsam on the other cakes.

At least plastic picks are spelled right and their spacing (in and of themselves) is perfect.

While Jayden's cake appears to be an accurate Mickey Mouse, am I the only one who looks at that and thinks: "BAD TASTE CAKE! Mickey Mouse appears to have just hanged himself, it's a bit much to put a festive message on the colourful noose."
