Sunday Sweets: Fabulous Faux Flowers

Hey all! john (the hubby of Jen) here. The next time you see "fresh flowers" on a cake, look more closely. They might actually be gumpaste.
(Made by LynnInSingapore)
I love the yellow and purple flowers on this one. I'm not very good with all the names, but I think they're daisies. And the photography is stunning, too.
(Made by Abbie Tabbie)
These aren't on a cake yet, but I thought Abbie's work on that top flower was especially fantastic. (Pretty sure it's a daisy.) Check out the blending of the pale green!
Next, we have the work of Ellen Bartlett:
She makes a mean daisy.
(See more of Ellen's work at Cakes To Remember)
You know you're dealing with skilled artisans when you have to email them to make sure the flowers aren't real.
(I did. They aren't.)
Our next cakes were made by Lyndsey Gamble:
I love the big bunches of flowers. Daisies.
Not only are the flowers fantastic, but check out the lace and ribbon work! (Yes, those are sugar, too.)
I love the orange and purple so much.
Just look at the veining in the petals! Wow. Those are some sweet daisies.
Such a cool design: the minimalism of the cake makes the flower burst really "pop."
(See more of Lyndsey's work at Elegantly Iced)
As a guy who's spent the last three years staring at some the of the best and worst cakes in the world, I often wish that I could go back to our wedding day and get a more memorable cake. Of course, knowing Jen, we'd then have to choose between a beautiful cake like this - only covered in poppies - or a perfect scale model of a Borg cube inscribed with "Resistance is futile." :)
Have an amazing Sunday, everybody!

I love pink and orange together! And, I also like the "daisies".......π Pink and orange in just the right shades of...orchid?
All is not lost, john!
=^~.-^=
Love these! Especially the last one that 'pops'!
PS: I'm thinking John (thoJ) really REALLY
likes daisies!ππΌπΌπΌπΌπΌ
Some really talented daisy-makers out there!
Jon's guide to flowers:
If not poppy, flower equals daisy.
The end.
Oh, yeah! Let's hear it for the daisies..(we love John thoJ posts)
The one with the daisies is my favorite!!! <3
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
These are lovely! There is a Facebook page for a U.K. artist called La Lavande Sugar Florist whose work is AMAZING! Y'all should seriously check her out!
Those are ALL truly works of art. Thank you so much for sharing these.
Lilies, ranunculus, stephanotis, orchids, roses, dogwood - they all grow in John's daisy garden. It must be an amazing place!
I've been a fan of CW for awhile now. I laugh at the wrecks, but the Sunday Sweets make my jaw drop. The effort and skill that go into the decorating just blows my mind. It seems a shame to chop them up to eat. I guess though otherwise they would end up like Miss Haversham's wedding cake or some of those store displays. And yes, John (thoj), great daisies. You and Jen do the best commentaries.
I'm not really a floral girl, but those daisies are some of the most stunning I've ever seen. Wow. Just amazing. Well done, John!
I was smiling when I read the first line that John (the hubby of Jen) was writing this post! I knew we would be seeing lots of daisy flowers. I think some of those flowers are really real.
I was sure that there would be at least one Epcot comment on here! Thanks for all the daisies!
I was half expecting the last one to have actual daisies, and have John call them something *other* than daisies.
Ah, John? My three-year old would like to say, those purple flowers on the orange cake are not Daisies. They are Awkwards.
Yep, lovely daisies, all. :)
It's a Tiger Lily. I grow them.
A daisy by any other name would smell as sweet!
Beautiful daisies, one and all!
According to Elegantly Iced Facebook page, Lindsey Gamble quit doing cakes 3 years ago. Too bad, such talent.
John, the groom's cake could be the Borg cube and the wedding cake could be the poppy daisies. Though, I think you should stick a rendering of the pony you like (sorry, can't remember which one) on top of the Borg cube. You can't let the bride make ALL the cakey decisions! It is your groom's cake, after all!
Ok, but now I want to know what your actual wedding cake looked like..
I'm late to this post (I read at work when I'm free), but I had to comment... The 27th was my birthday!!! A daisies sweets on my (Daisy) birthday was an awesome treat!!!
I am wiping the tears from my eyes. Thank you for posting the lovely photos of Lindsey's gorgeous cakes!
I laughed more and more at each daisy. Thanks for the laughs (and amazing cakes!)
