What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Drama Queens

In a world ...

where it seemed ...

that most cakes were chewed first and THEN sold ...

one cake dared ...

to stand alone.

the story of an elite group of renegade cakes ...

...who could no longer bear to stand idly by and watch the unknowing public be content with things like CUPCAKE CAKES, or NAKED CAKES, and instead decided to show the world, once and for all ...

What a freaking amazing cake really looks like.

Hold on to your seats, as this visual thrill-ride takes you beyond the average world of poorly-piped productions, and into a snowy scene where silvery footprints lead you through a filigree-framed trompe l'oeil forest:

OHhh. .......yes. I would walk barefoot through a frosted forest forever.....(if it had chocolate in it).
I'd even be willing to share...(I guess I'd have, to, since the other prints are going the same way....)! =^~.~^=

Wow, Absolutely takes my breath away. I am always enchanted by the Sunday cakes, but this week's lineup is beyond beautiful.

Thank you for sharing them with us.

I love it when the writing is as wonderful as the cakes. Great post, Lindsey!

I'm flabbergasted by the seahorse, but my absolute favourite is the third cake down, with the pink roses and "falling dots". (Technical expression, there.) No special effects, no fancy stuff, but absolutely stunning.

I feel like such a horrible person. I loved the pink and white, the seahorse, and the forest. The others? Hated them. To me they were overdone, tacky, and cluttered. I fully admire the artistry and talent it took to design and make them. But they just weren't for me.

Anybody else looking for a lamp-post on cake #5? Could that be...Spare Oom?

the cakes are breathtaking works of art indeed but i always wonder how they taste. taste is equally important when it comes to cake.

The filigree forest makes me think of Narnia, but I'm not sure why! The sea horse- is that cake!? What is keeping him upright? I like the yellow one, too!

What a bunch of stunning, knockout cakes!

Is it wrong that I want to see cake-wrecker versions of these during the week?

I thought #4 was my favorite Sunday Sweet ever, until I saw #6. Trompe l'oiel, IN CAKE! I just finished cleaning up from a GoT themed dinner to celebrate the start of the new season. That cake would have made a perfect ending. Winter is Coming!

Amazing cakes - my fave is the yellow one (which I have sub-titled, Van Gogh in the kitchen) - but I have to admit, the chocolate/rose/flower cake scares me a little... it looks beautiful and SO yummy and chocolately - but I am picturing a cake-wrecker seeing it and thinking "that's a good idea," and there is only one way that can go!

July 16, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAT

Wow! Just wow!

And, yes, I got a Narnia vibe off the footprints in the snow too.

Perfection, every one of them.

Cupcake cakes are a travesty and should be banned.

The top cake is so majestic!

The tulips are AMAZING
