What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The Mickey Mouse Mind Trick

In honor of Mickey Mouse's birthday I'm about to give you a crazy cool gift: I'm about to make you forget what Mickey Mouse looks like.

Impossible, you say?

Then WATCH THIS:

It's slipping away, isn't it?

Is this right? Can you tell?

IS THIS REAL LIFE?

And finally, here's one from a vintage cake decorating book that proves they just don't make 'em like they used to:

Thank goodness.

Happy birthday, Mickey!

Thanks to Marion G., Marshelle G., Saturn S., Nicole A., Heidi L., Anony M., & Emma P. for reminding us Mickey used to eat childrens' souls. Ah, the good ol' days.

Isn't that 4th one Felix the Cat?

That last one is terrifying!

But I think the fourth one is supposed to be Felix the Cat rather than Mickey.

Is the 5th one 2 upside-down cupcakes frosted...over the paper cups???

Genius use of toilet paper rolls to hold up the ungainly heads in the 6th one, wreckers!

And I had no idea that Mickey used to have sharp pointy teeth! At least the modern wrecks don't, so there's a silver lining...

Well, considering how rabid Disney is about copyright infringement, perhaps these bakers were just afraid of getting sued. That's the charitable explanation...yeah, I'll go with that.

(But really, Disney is nothing to even smirk in their general direction. A company that makes mostly childrens' content is scarier than monsters under the bed. Really.)

They all look more or less like Mickey except for the last one.

On the bright side, the fourth one works well as a Felix the Cat cake.

That first one looks like Winnie the pooh with Mickey facepaint.

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

That fourth one looks more like a cat from an old comic strip. Didn't they used to make wall clocks like him and the tail was the pendulum?

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJake & Me

Oh Mickey you so fine... NOT

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

At Mickey's age he's had to have some work to keep up with the kids. Maybe these are paparazzi shots from when he was healing ya know? :) Or may from when he clone was being generated in the lab? Or maybe when space aliens took him over?

"Happy end Anniversary," Mickey!

Is that meant to be "2nd?" I thought it was "and," but zoomed in to see if it might be a "2,"and it wasn't. Maybe a "2" that died of embarrassment?

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterR3test

The third one looks like Mighty Mouse.

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

It looks as if somebody slipped our favorite mouse a mickey!

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLady Anne

I'm thinking that first one is actually the Hamm's Beer Bear.

M-I-C, See all the wrecks, K-E-Y... Why? Because they can't draw, M-O-U-S-E

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered Commentersrandall

I think the first cake used the Tigger cake pan. Both Disney characters so it should be fine, right?

Your blog always makes me laugh, but, for some reason, this one really struck me--hilarious! I know my limitations, I do not even try to decorate a cake that resembles characters or objects (and I have 4 kids). My kids get good ol' plain frosting.

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJMac

The 2nd one looks like a bear out of the old Tex Avery cartoons, while the 4th one definitely looks like Felix the Cat! The rest of them.... smh

@Susan D: brilliant observation - I was scrolling so fast, I missed the TP rolls... at least they could have decorated them. Well, maybe not.

@Lady Anne: Hahahahaha!

I had the same thought as several others... I think the 4th one is Felix the Cat. The others are so bad and if the 4th is really supposed to be Mickey, it's just as bad as the others! =D

@srandall, you win 5 Internets today! (It looks like Mickey has been *hit* by his own club!)

November 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterZippy

Oh man poor Mickey. Even Minnie would run away from all of those cakes lol.

!. A cross between Mickey and Pluto
2.Bear
3.Mighty Mouse
4.Felix
5. Just no
6.Psycho Mickey

I think the second picture is actually Doug from the comic strip Tom the Dancing Bug.
