What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

You Say Potato, I Say Potato, Your Baker Draws a Llama

This was supposed to read, "You'll Never Walk Alone"

So now it's less a promise and more... a threat?

The team is named The Bees, so they asked for a bee near first base:

Which is worse: the fact that they wrote out the instructions, or that "bee" near first base?
'Cuz I'm leaning towards the bee.

Jessica tells me she "has a thing for beards," so she asked the baker to put beards on her cookie cake.

I'm kinda with the baker on this one.

It goes great with Lauren's "Beast of Luck:"

But here's the best one: you know how it's a trend to write "You're dead to us" on goodbye cakes?

I have no idea why it's a trend, but it is.

See?

Anyhoo, here's the very best "You're Dead To Us" cake I've ever seen:

"You're Dad To Us."

That is one stubbornly optimistic baker, you guys, and I love it.

Thanks to Kathleen H., Katrina C., Jessica S., Mark T., Kristen P., Haley O., Lesley W., & Chris D., AKA "Dad."

I'm thinking of a T.V. sitcom pilot featuring an itenerant vacuum cleaner salesman who sowed his wild oats far and wide. After he retires he's visited one day by several young people carrying that "You're Dad to us " cake. Hijinks ensue.
Maybe I should contact Netflix.

The Beast of Luck is either a rabbit or Falkor.

Ha! "Beards" on the cake!

October 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJacinta

That 'bee' looks suspiciously like an onion.

Also, I like the juxtaposition of 'Your (sic) dead to us' on a happy-face sun & rainbow cake.

October 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKimS

Are we sure that's a bee by first base? Because it looks like an onion. Which doesn't make any sense either, but there it is.

My "Cakewreckoholic" tendencies are showing because now I want to see a wreckorator's attempt at a Llama on a cake. I shall not rest until I see one. Jen? John? Can you please help? Hi, My name is Cookie and I'm a Cakewreckoholic.

NOT THE BEES!

Who wasn't touched by the "never walk home" cake? Come on! The team loved the person so much, they all chipped in to buy him a pair of roller skates...*sniff*...
=^-.-,^= something in my eye...

The "Beards" cookie cake. Is that a plastic sunflower ring? Why a ring? And why a sunflower with "Beards"? Just, why?

True story- happened long before Cake Wrecks was around. Friends ( We'll say their name is BAKER, for S&G's) were having a family reunion. They wanted cupcakes instead of a cake for ease of serving ( they were ahead of their day). They asked the bakery to put B's on each of the cupcakes.
You got it-each of the EIGHT DOZEN cupcakes had a honeybee on it.
The family couldn't BEE upset, though- they were really well done, and the weren't charged anything extra :-)

"HI COOKIE! Welcome to the group"

Isn't that "bee" by 3rd base?
Not that I'm a sports whiz.

I like my cake like I like my coffee...full of BEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!

October 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAnalee

I'll admit I'm with you and the baker on the "Beards" cookie. The customer wanted multiple/plural beards. I have no idea what they had in mind, but everything that comes to my mind is a wreck. It was a no-win situation for the baker I think.

NOT THE BEE GEES!! THEY'RE GETTING IN MY EYES!! ARRRRGH!!

October 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNathan R.

Wow, so much from which to choose. You'll never walk home -- sort of basebally, really, if you think about it. Also, the message seems to be in two-colored frosting. How is that possible? Done twice?

The bee -- well, someone at the bakery knows bees are stripey, they just got the direction wrong there, I guess.

The best -- sunshine and rainbows Dead to Us!!

They're as different as night and day-ay...

Don't you think night and day are different...what's wrong with you...

I go to this site for years...today for the first time none of the pictures are posting??? just little teeny boxes..I went back a few pages and the same thing..anyone else have this problem today??

The second "You're dead to us" cake is a great Halloween cake. Also like the incongruity of the sunshine and rainbow on the next one. Maybe "we're happy you're leaving"?

. . . Still looking for the llama. . .

October 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLlamaRescuer

@Cookiemama @LlamaRescuer:Try "Obama's New Groove" (November 18, 2014). Your pathetic plea roused something in my memory, & I found it. This one really isn't a wreck except it's very definitely NOT what was requested, but it's the best I got.

October 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

The other problem with the "been near first base" is that it's actually written near third base. So, add that to the list too!! 😂😂

The Onion Bee is evidently following the poop contrail of the baseball,

October 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

Lol!! That cake with the sun is so happy looking to be telling someone they are dead to us. Guess the sun is happy about that. Did like the Halloween one though those ghosts looked rather like sperm as usual on here lol.

October 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

The 'bee' is the bow-topped shallot near first base. It looks like the logo of various web sites that failed in the last century because no one was sure what they sold. The words are closer to third. And second base is missing completely. The wreckerator wasn't a sports fan, I'd guess. The cheerful 'Your Dead To Us' would be perfect for an alternative mortuary. From now on, death will be sunshine and rainbows, not black crepe.

Just to say, Liverpool Football club's anthem is 'You'll never walk alone'. They say every child born in the city is either born a Liverpool (red) or Everton (blue) fan. There's a Santa fun run for Cancer Research annually and many hundreds participate but many wear blue santa suits, as no Everton fan would EVER wear a red santa outfit!

October 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMatilda

Explanation of the first cake, for US readers: it is for a fan of Liverpool Football Club (soccer to you). The players wear red, but they used to wear red and white. I think the baker is stuck in that era. The fans sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as their theme song. I have heard it misquoted as 'You'll Never Walk Again'. At least the baker didn't put that!

October 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMorag

Welp, in all honesty, the letters on the "Beards" cookie DO have five o'clock shadows..... ;)

October 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJoanieB

@Cookiemama - Oh, there have been llamas, most notably this one, but also the bottom cake in this one (kindof) and an actual Sunday Sweet one here. Enjoy!
