What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Something Here Doesn't Add Up

We all know Wreckerators have trouble with the English and the spelling and whatnot.

(I don't know why they have trouble with the English, but they do.)

Well, turns out they aren't so great with numbers, either.

See? I tried to tell you cupcake cakes (patooie!) are all backwards.

"You're celebrating your 75th birthday? Meh, here's a quarter. Call someone who cares fractionally more than I."

(Oooh, math puns are FUN!!)

There's an unwritten rule in Wreckerating: every number ends in "th." Yes, every number.

The irony here is that's the "fixed" version.

Oh, and speaking of irony...

The kid on the right totally knows. He's just being polite.

Sarah J., Annette H., Dao, Janie, Jessica B., & Mike V., you're all number 1th to me.

Aw, common. Elizabeth is just getting her new teeth. Why shouldn't they have a birthday too?

Wow. The Hello Kitty and 30 cakes would have never made it to this site without their number-y errors. Their decorations are actually nicely done. It's what I keep telling my (multiple-math-degree-bearing) husband -- math is evil!

That first cake look Like E0 as in Captain Eo the attraction at Disneyland Park instead of 30!

Lol

I saw a Tumblr post the other day that said "It took me 16 years to realize that we write 1st, 2nd, 3rd... because that's how the word ends." Perhaps we need to explicitly state this to people or something?

June 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLadybugFaerie

Maybe the "1/4 of a century" one is telling her how much time she has left? Hmmm, that's not very good either, is it.

June 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFM

Some centuries are longer than others.

Also, they spelled Jayne's name wrong. The Hero of Canton loves him some Hello Kitty.

For the last cake - at least they have the apostrophe in the proper place. Can't have everything.

"..fractionally more than I."

.....okay, you can hate me, now.

[Editor's note- Nope. You're absolutely right and I don't know how we missed that. Thanks for the heads up. -john (the hubby of Jen)]

#1 is the perfect case for why 1337z 5h0u1d n3\/3r 734ch 13375934X 70 n008z,**
because then it ends up being used by people who can't correctly differentiate between letters & numbers in the first place, and who foolishly think it's appropriate to interchange 3 & E in all writings.

Actually, on second thought, I think "E0" might've been an attempt to "fix" the cake. Perhaps the baker had arranged the cupcakes as "03" & already begun frosting them when he realized that it was supposed to be 30, so he turned the cake board around & finished the piping, thinking no-one would notice the now-backward 3.

In either case, I hope Joe still had a happy "birtnolay"....whatever that is.

#5 Gosh, a light pink inscription on a pastel background, why that's not hard to make the words out at all... >.>
*squints*
Does that say "Happy 2th #uthay Clizoloah"? What the--?
Well, I guess using low-contrast colors on that cake wasn't such a bad idea.

**translation for those who don't know what that said: "leets should never teach leetspeak to noobs".
I know, I'm contradicting that statement just by explaining it.

You see, back when I joined the internet community, the old hands talked in "mysterious" letter/number/ascii mix-ups & no-one stopped to explain what they meant.
As a newbie you either figured it out for yourself or you didn't learn it at all, & figuring it out yourself required using your brain & thinking skills.
So the very act of figuring out leetspeak, proved that you'd earned the right to use it & had the sense to appreciate the difference between leetspeak & correct english.

Now, I see 3's being substituted for e's willy-nilly everywhere by fools who never learned the correct english in the first place; they may be speaking 1337, but they are still just n008s. What is the internet coming to nowadays?

On the other hand, without those fools who never learned correct english out there making spelling, grammer, & critical-thinking mistakes.....there might not be a Cake Wrecks at all!
So I guess there's a bright-side to the vulgarization of leetspeak.

1/4 of a Century... to go. That's what they meant to say. Maybe.

#1: A CCC would not be *my* first choice for a 30th birthday (or any other), but that's just me. Especially when you put the '3' on the right side of the board (to be able to use that nice straight edge as a guide) and don't realize until after the paving contractor has applied the frosting, making it impossible to transpose them.

#2: The proposed 300-year century pretty much spelled the end of Common Core Chronology.

#5: Happy birthday, Elizabeth, from your friends at the Soviet Bakery.

#6: This one is conflicting. Sure, minus 500 for putting the stencil on back-to-front, but proper use of "you're" ought to be worth at least 501 points for rarity. Net score: 1.

I'll be honest with you. After talking to the public all day on the phone at my job, I'm not astounded by all the errors that abound... I'm actually astounded that more than 10% of orders are done correctly!!

i like 2nd cakee but all are good......................

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterddesign

What's all the flotsam on Elizabeth's cake? Looks like a cheap brooch, a headband and a knitting needle. Scratching my head.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

I think it's a glittery headband and a fairy wand.

Everyone in Toontown has to take a turn at the bakery, and sometimes it's Sylvester's. You should see the cakes on Donald Duck's day.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEoin

I would love that Hello Kitty cake lol. Mistake and all. Giggled so hard at the rest of these especially the number one cake lmao.

June 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

I read that Hello Kitty one in my head as "twenty-firtht." It kinda works! Well, in a Daffy Duck sort of way...

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

Does that 21 yr old have issues. I mean what adult likes hello kitty that much?

December 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCc

maybe they're just numbering with a lisp, happy twenty firth birthday, thuthannah jane! bonus, they saved room by only using her middle name! :)
