What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

My Little Tony: Wreckage is Tragic

By now you may have heard about the Italian bakery that accidentally mistook a little girl's My Little Pony cake order for a Little TONY cake order:

(Apparently Little Tony was a singer back in the early 60s.)

(So, you know, SUPER popular with today's 9-year-olds.)

Of course we feel for little Evelina, having to endure an obscure 60's crooner stealing Pinkie Pie's rightful spotlight - but this being Cake Wrecks, we've also discovered the OTHER side of the wrecky coin.

Meet Tony, the birthday boy who just wanted his own name on his birthday cake:

....and maybe for people to stop stacking their laundry on it.

SORRY, TONY.

Ah, but you're in luck! We ordered you a new cake, Tony, and we even asked the baker to add some crushed nuts on top, since we heard you like those.

Ah.

Well, ain't that a kick in the... head.

SORRY AGAIN, TONY.

Thanks to Eva G., Bridgett M., & Whitney N., who actually wanted her cake to look like that... so I recommend staying on her good side.

Is that last cake is a classic… The Fall Of Troy????

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterShirley Fowley

I was unfamiliar with the work of Little Tony and Googled some of his song lyrics. Of course they were all in Italian, but this one seemed strangely appropriate for this post, what with the "tortes" and "biscotti" and such. It seems, the little guy was a musical genius.

Tortes E Tortellini

Dopo la cottura torte invano,
se non si vuole cuocere più dolci
perché si vede sono solo un pasticcio .
se non si vuole cuocere più dolci
venite a vedere i relitti
Eri meglio di quanto si pensi .
Le lacrime che ho versato per il vostro lavoro
sono lacrime d'amore
Ti amo, ti amo e amo vostre torte
Ti amerò così tanto
finché esiste biscotti
finché fondant brilla
finché io vivo
perché voglio la tua torta
solo per me , sempre ,
sempre , sempre solo per me stesso .

Oh Troy, methinks you have been a very bad boy to have that on your cake!
Unless the baker is dyslexic, and it was supposed to say Tony. Then.... Tony, methinks you have been a etc. etc.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Poor Tnoy!! He (IF it's a "he"-I'm not sure about anything anymore, here)gets a kick in the stick, AND a stupin dame--I mean, stupid name! Bad enough that the poor kid has a bad case of acne...=^0.o^= I thought this was supposed to be a FUN place! Oh, and I remember a singer named Tony, way back at the Dawn of time...

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

With a name like Evelina(a great book by Fanny Burney), she was lucky she didn't get a cake with an 18th century singer on it. Besides, a girl who favors vintage 1960's singers seems more interesting than one who favors Little Pony. And what are those stains on the side of the cake--it looks like the Pony may have paid a visit, after all.

What's written on the left of the Little Tony cake? "Auguri"?

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterClassic Steve

Is that last cake to Troy or Tnoy? I'm seeing Tnoy, which would make that a twofer wreck...

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCC

At first I thought the last cake was supposed to be a picture of a guy kicking another guy in the knee with his toe... Toe+knee = Tony.

But then I saw the tears and I realized that yep, he really is kicking him in the family jewels.

Stay golden, Ponyboy!

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJust Andrea

I feel like the the last one the baker MUST have known exactly what she was doing. That had so be a conscious decision to replace actual crushed nuts with a picture of "nuts" getting crushed. I can't come up with another reasonable explanation for that thing.

SuBee, you have outdone yourself girl! Love it. I'm Italiano myself, and when I read the lyrics? LMAO. The fifth line of the song "venite a vedere I relitti = Come See The Wrecks" Fantasic! hehehe.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered Commentercookiemama

Hey Classic Steve - yup it's auguri and it's Italian. It means best wishes or good luck, but it's frequently used to wish someone a happy birthday as well. Probably the only thing not screwed up on any of the cakes!

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

@Classic Steve
Indeed it says "auguri"; the inscription is in Italian.
Auguri means "well wishes" & is used in a number of Italian greetings.

Saying "auguri" to Evelina on her birthday cake is certainly appropriate, especially in Italy where the "Little Tony" cake happened. Well, at least the baker spelled "auguri" correctly!

SuBee!
Holy whatsit; your found lyrics were MADE for this site!
Seriously, you guys, here is the Google translation, so that you don't have to: :-D

"After baking cakes in vain,
if you do not want to bake more cakes
because you see are just a mess.
if you do not want to bake more cakes
Come, see the wrecks
You were better than you think.
The tears I shed for your work
are tears of love
I love you, I love you and I love your cakes
I will love you so much
until there biscuits
until fondant shines
as long as I live
because I want your cake
just for me, always,
always, always only for myself."

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterIrene

At least they didn't give her Tony Little?

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterleta

Troy = Trojans = Horse = Pony

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPenni

I LOVE the last cake! Simple, unambiguous graphic that, with a few choice words can be used for multiple occasions, such as: missed soccer goal, OR beloved's fly down AGAIN, OR please don't text a pic of that, OR look, i bought the Louboutins anyway!

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

OK. Is Troy on the left or the right? Cause the guy on the left does indeed look like he is having a happy day. The guy on the right, not so much.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

I have an ex named Troy. I'd like to send that cake to him, let him know. I've been thinking about him.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLisa P

I actually saw Little Tony perform at a street festival while visiting Italy in the 90s, the older generation was going nuts! Sharing this on my timeline so my family in Italy can have a good laugh too! PS. One would think given the cake was for a 9 year old, someone would question if what she actually wanted was Little Tony!

PS. For the previous poster who asked, "Auguri" is Italian for Congratulations. Typical to see it on a cake for a special occasion, not just a birthday.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

@Steve, "Aurugi" means wishes. "Tanti Auguri a te" how Italians would wish you a happy birthday.

It's not a Barack O'Llama cake, but it's still kinda funny that way.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

"Auguri" is Italian for "Best Wishes," more or less.

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGerald

Oh Jen! You just made my day. And livened up a dull meeting!

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

@SuBee - Dig it, man. Profound. Is that from a Fellini film? (Technically, he's Sammarinese. Now I know what to call someone from the Most Serene Republic of San Marino. Maybe that's why he's called "Little" Tony. Or maybe some other reason.)

@Classic Steve: translation here: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=http://www.intelligonews.it/articoli/14-maggio-2015/26509/evelina-ama-little-pony-ma-sulla-torta-c-little-tony&prev=search

"Happy Birthday Pony" - Perhaps they're Copts, and they named his sister "Proky". Pontius and Procula? Feast day coming up on the 25th! No? O.K. It's a stretch.

Crushed nuts - That probably is the joke, only as cyalen noted yesterday regarding the four-year drunk, it's an "r", for Troy, like the "r" in "Birthday".

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEoin

I like how on the last cake the baker took 'crushed nuts' literally lol. Pretty genius for a cake wreck!

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

@Irene
"SuBee! Holy whatsit; your found lyrics were MADE for this site!"

Erm...Irene, you know, those aren't the actual Little Tony lyrics, right?

The actual song is called "T'amo E T'amero", ("I love you and I will love you")
and the real lyrics are here --> http://lyricstranslate.com/en/node/139350

"Tortes E Tortellini" is another of SuBee's absolutely brilliant parodies.
In fact, I think this bilingual one, is particularly straordinario**, and SuBee deserves an award for outstanding-acheivement-in-cake-related-parody.

**extraordinary

Worked a 10-hour day staffing a booth at a trade show today, and it was pretty slow. Am so glad I didn't check this blog while I was there, because my screams of laughter from that third cake would have drawn way too much attention to my booth.

Giggling my head off... my hubby's birthday is tomorrow... and his name is Troy ;D

June 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRose

Well that last cake made me laugh really loud. Hope I didn't scare the neighbors. Ah well I kinda liked that cake hehe. Hilarious that it's a birthday cake. Sheesh.

Why isn't that last one a Cyanide and Happiness cartoon?

June 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRauss

The last cake is mine, and believe it or not it says troy. He was asked what he wanted on his cake and his response was "a stick man kicking another stick man in the junk". Ask and ye shall receive!
