What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

There, I Fixed It

"Aw, rats. I forgot to capitalize the H on this birthday cake."

"Hm."

[scrapescrapescrape]

"There! Perfect."

"Madison did such a great job, earning her brown belt in Karate! Oh, but wait...she's a GIRL, isn't she? Oops. Huh. This graphic has two boys on it."

"Well, no problem. I've got it covered."

"Yep, that was a hairy problem, but I sure got it covered. Heh. Aheh."

***

Wrong name? Nooo problem.

[whispering] No one will EVER know.

Nelia, Elizabeth F., & Rachael, good job thanks!

I have to admit, I kind of love the karate one.

They should have made those brown belts pink. Girls like pink.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

I agree with Mandy. I kind of love the karate one.

Today is my father's annual acknowledgment that he's getting older, so I shall be sure to wish him a Happy Briday.

The decorator could have at least put some white icing over that mess, although, having misspelled "Birthday", maybe they just should have started over. Yeesh.

Our local grocery is looking to hire a decorator. I told the manager "none of my cakes would ever appear on Cake Wrecks". Maybe I'll get the job.

I have to admit, I think what they did with the karate cake was kind of clever.

At least it's neat and tidy. Unlike the first one. That's just a mess all the way around.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

The hair is not too bad, but the first cake makes me hope they got a refund....

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

I happen to think that the karate one is great. Not only does it look good but it was a great idea too and they pulled it off flawlessly.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngyla

I actually like the karate one.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterheloise

@ SuBee: I agree; their hair yarns/ribbons are pink, so pink belts would've been nice, too. I'm a girl, and I like pink, but my favorite color is green (pistachio green especially). But I wouldn't want a stinky foot in my face, be it male or female. =^-.-^=

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Just curious, is there anyway to fix decorating errors without scraping off all the icing?

That first one makes me smirk. One of my cake making quirks, if you want to call it, is to make the h inside the word birthday lower case instead of upper case like I make the rest of the word.

It has become my signature of sorts.

I understand that the hair may be considered 'not right' for karate, but I think it's great! I love how it (intentionally or not) makes two stereotypes cancel each other out...

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPetra

I think the hair on the karate one is genius. I spent a lot of time looking to see if there was another problem I missed.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngi

Live the Polly Pocket hair in the karate one

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEgilfay

I thought the karate cake was really cute. It's a winner in my book.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSadie

@SuBee: Ummm...you ARE aware that the color of the belt denotes your rank in karate, right? There is no such thing as a "pink-belt" & a brown belt is one step below mastery, the black belt. So changing it would be saying, "Congratulations on your rank, but we don't really care; we replaced it with a pink one because that's what girls like." Madison'd probably beat your face in. She could, too.

(And, by the way, not all girls like pink; I myself never could stand it & I've got one who loves yellow.)

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

I don't think that the karate cake sinks to the level of true wreckitude. The maker did a decent job of putting feminine hair on the figures. The fact that in a match it would generally be bound up tighter than that puts this in the category of 'poetic license' rather than ineptitude.

Also, a gi is supposed to be loose enough to not really be able to distinguish 'curves' under it

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterrocketride

@SuBee, after all the comments I've read from you, I have to believe that was snarky sarcasm. That's good, girls like snarky sarcasm.

I'm gonna Epcot this--I didn't realize the karate kids weren't girls.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

The Karate one is awesome lol

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKat

I agree, karate cake for the win, those other 2 though... We need to sic Madison on those wreckorators:)

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCBushLite

Actually, I thought the karate cake was pretty clever, myself. Although yeah- no pink belt. The hair is one thing. But a pink belt would be a grave insult.

The other two.... no words.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterakathleen

The sad thing about Happy Briday is there's plenty of room for the missing letters. The karate one is cute. No complaints. The last one, well, at least a couple more people will get a little extra icing. Wouldn't want the people getting the edge pieces to have ALL the sugar-high fun.

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

Actually, in my Tae Kwon Do school, if you forget your belt you have to wear a pink belt (someone's white belt that met an unfortunate red sock in the wash). You also can't take your normal place in class, you go right to the bottom in the pink. Needless to say, I only forgot my belt once. The pink belt is a belt of shame...

February 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterScaperMama

Actually, that second one is really not all that bad...

February 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBea

Good luck in the interview for that cake decorating job, Lady Anne. I just hope you have better luck than me.

It bums me out that I can be wearing a blindfold and have the lights go out at midnight and still decorate a cake better than any of these, but I can't get a job in a bakery to save my life. :(

February 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBea

The karate one looks a little like two Cabbage Patch dolls fighting. :)

February 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

Lol I thought the Karate cake was kind of cute in a way. Then again cold meds could be affecting my judgment on these things right now.

February 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Don't feel bad Bea...I walked out of a grocery store bakery job, their cakes were terrible. Keep trying for the proper bakery job. Now I work with people with talent, not teenagers with part time jobs.

February 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTrish

Actually, I think the Karate cake is kind of ingenious.

February 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSue

"You nitwit! Not only did you forget to capitalize the 'H' in 'happy,' that was a WEDDING cake!! Not a birthday cake!"

*scrape scrape*

"There! Fixed! A wedding is supposed to be the 'bride's day,' right?"
