What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Mister Mister's "Broken Wings" Gets Wrecked

Baby, don't understand

Why we can't just bake cakes
In butterfly pans

This time
might be the last
I fear

Unless I
make it all too clear
You need to knoooooow:

OooOOOooooh

Take! These broken wings!

And learn to try again

Or learn to bake for free!

When you hear,
"What IS that thing?"

The look of shock should tear you up
it's not a win!

So take!

These broken wiiiiings!

*thud*

Thanks to Via S., Michelle, Sarah L., Jon, Naomi B., Julie D., Christine, Kaylee & Sarah, Lori C., Kelly R., & Katie S. for proving that's one MORE thing pre-schoolers can draw better than bakers.

These may explain the recent decline in the monarch butterfly population. Word got out that they were being misrepresented by bakers and now many have chosen to attach tiny little weights to their tiny insect legs and propel themselves into puddles.

I refuse to believe those are all meant to be butterflies. One is a multi-colored snowflake and another is clearly a carrot resting on a four-petaled flower.

Bahahaha

I'm not familiar with that song, but I totally heard Jen's head in my voice, singing the song, as I scrolled down. CCC's --- ptooie!

Was that a carrot?

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCheryl

Is that a carrot?!?

I'm so old, I remember when that song came out. I loved it as only an overly-dramatic teenager could.

Say what you will, bakers. Those are NOT butterflies. I don't know what they really are (holly leaves, psychadelic cannabis, elephant heads, surprised carrots) but they are not butterflies. This is why we can't have nice things made from cupcakes.

That 8th one is almost the saddest because it's a terrible butterfly, but an excellent carrot.

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCandice

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. That's all I can think of to write.

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterHAL

#8 was never intended to be a butterfly. It is quite obviously a carrot wishing you a Happy Easter, only the baker made the wise choice not to try piping the message on the cross.

lol @ candice. i googled if there was a thing as a good ccc butterfly cake and the chances that it comes out well is about 2 : the entire internet of photos.

I've been hearing that son a lot on spotify the last few days, now I know why.

These are truly... a stretch of the imagination.

Every single one of these butterflies has crawled back into the cocoon from whence they came. They'd rather be caterpillars again.

How do you make a pink, uh, uvulaed, CCC (ptooie) "butterfly" better? Put an entire sheet of decorations that are supposed to be separated on what one can only assume is the head end.

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

In all honesty I really don't believe any of those bakers have ever seen a real butterfly. Not even as a picture.

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

One of those is clearly a stingray. And a very nice stingray.

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterserinde

Perfect. Love the original song & love your version with these cupcake wrecks. Thanks for the laugh!

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCewmont

You are an absolute genius. This post was perfection. One of my favorite songs from my youth is now changed forever.

I love the carrot, he's adorable.

December 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

Lol!! I heard the song as I read this. Oh man. And if that's a carrot.. I fear what it is doing on said butterfly thing. Scary.

December 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Millions are crying out for Mohawked baby jockeys for the carrots.

December 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAl

Mmmmmmmm, carrot cake. But that cream cheese frosting has clearly gone off. Why else would it be pink and yellow?

December 9, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterkayk

Did i just see a jalapeno on a flower?

Making a butterfly cake is not difficult. Just make a 2 or 3-layer cake with a crumb coat. The cut an "S" top-down through the layers, and flip one cake upside down and put the previously outer curves together to form the symmetric wings. Fondant on top of each half, and then use molding chocolate for the body. I've got a picture if anybody is interested.

Easy, really, as long as you are not determined to make a CCC.

Totally heard his angsty voice in my head singing this song. Complete with the dow dow duh dowdow baseline.
