Sunday Sweets: It's Fall, Y'all!

The weather down here in Florida may not have gotten the memo yet, but fall is officially upon us. So let's celebrate!
(By McGreevy Cakes)
Pumpkins, pumpkins, everywhere - and this time I'm not complaining! Love the raffia border between the two tiers, and check out that gorgeous hand-painted scene.
In addition to my favorite color (orange!), fall is all about rich shades of bronze, gold, and - oh yeah - CHOCOLATE:
Mmmm. That acorn & leaves bundle is too perfect. Who needs flowers?
In fact, I like how fall puts all the changing leaves at center stage:

Stunning.
But really, we're gonna need some more pumpkins in here.
Muuuch better.
Really digging this design, although that lace pattern has me stumped. I'm guessing it's airbrushed on over a stencil? Could also be an edible image, though. Anyone know for sure?
Here's a delicate modern number - or does it feel more vintage?
(By Ligia De Santis)
The hand painted design looks like fine antique china; and I like the two little leaves as an understated accent.
Now this next one is definitely modern, and I like it.

Ooooh. Dark chocolate with red and white accents just became my new favorite color combo.
Then again, this snow-white number is down right heavenly:

Perfect for autumn weddings!
Remember when I said, "Who needs flowers?" Well, as it turns out, I do:

I NEED THESE FLOWERS.
I want to stare at them all day and make soft cooing noises.
And finally, a Sweet so quintessentially fall it makes me want to pack up my sweaters and move north:
(By Nice Icing)
Kicking through leaf piles! C'mon, it doesn't get more fall than that.
I'm so impressed with the little girl sculpt; the leaves on her skirt & boot really do seem to be levitating. And look at those adorable little bushes & toadstools on the bottom! And the fox! Ah! SO GOOD.
Hope you enjoyed your Sweets today, everyone! Happy Sunday!

That pumpkin cake is defying gravity!
It's so sweet, but it's defying gravity
I could wait but it won't fall.....!
Love these cakes. Yes, Jen, fall is the one time of year nobody minds living in the North! (But you have to time it perfectly because if you stay too long you'll be snowbound!)
The lace technique could be the technique described in the following article as Sugarveil-less Sugarveil Technique: http://www.theweddingsecret.co.uk/magazine/diy-weddings-the-sugarveil-less-sugarveil-technique/
OMG the pumpkin topsy turvey cake is amazing :O and the one with the little girl made me go awwwww
Beautiful, beautiful.
I'd like to give a shout-out to all the humble pumpkin stems. Each one looks like a pumpkin stem and not like...you know...
The weather up here (eastern MA) doesn't seem to have gotten the memo yet, either, although I hear this coming week will be more fall-like. And I'm already seeing some color in the trees!
I'd like fall more if it lasted longer. Winter up here seems to go on forever; summer is here and gone in a flash; fall sticks around just long enough for all the trees to turn pretty colors.
Ahhh---the first is so very reminiscent of those rotating scenic lamps which graced "dens" and "rumpus rooms" of my growing-up years. Ours was a scene of the North-woods, so incongruous in the Deep Hot South of my raising, with pine tree silhouettes, and a little cabin with smoke drifting from the chimney.
And tell me that the Pumpkin One features those crocheted tablecloths in the Pineapple Pattern that all our Mamas and Mammaws used to make. Absolute perfection, one and all.

Beautiful. And not a pumptit or poopkin in sight...
There's no way I could ever cut into that first cake with the painting. It's too beautiful.
Lovely!
(A lot of fondant though...)
"Awww! Ooooh! Ahhh!" --These are like cakey fireworks! So lovely!! The little fox in the last one jumped right out at me, maybe because I just read The Little Prince again (for the nth time). LOVE the lace on the pumpkin-y one, and I don't know how it was done, either! I think your airbrush-over-stencil thing sounds logical...or maybe a two-step, reverse-stencil process(??) I give! Anyway, these are all simply knockouts!
@Gingersnap: LOL!! I live in the north (Vt.), and have been "snowbound" a time or two! Right now it's already quite gorgeous, and it's not even "peak" yet!
@Roxy Random: The last part of your comment really hit the old spout on the sap bucket!
I'm so thankful that winter is only half of the year... =^-.-^=
Forgive me for being a bit pessimistic, but do you really want dying leaves (however beautifully executed) on a wedding cake?
Burnt orange, dark brown, deepish yellow and avocado green - my most least favorite colors in the world (ask me about being 20-something in the 70's, yuck), so fall colors are not easy on my eyes, but these cakes, hey, not bad, actually several of them are pretty awesome, the white one is even a little scary looking. I am glad to see fall, though. Here in South Texas it is the second half of summer and you just know that week or two of winter is on its way (maybe in January).
WOOOWHOOOO!! I LUUUUURVE Sunday Sweets... and I'm TICKLED PINK to be featured!! Especially along side all o' these beauties!! Thanks so much, Jen!
(And, incidentally, dying leaves are some of my most favorite things EV-AH. 'Specially ones made o' sugar. ;)
Fall is my very favorite time of the year. When I moved from Arkansas to Texas, I missed the full three months we experienced there. I have just learned to enjoy it faster here. That little girl kicking the leaves is so awwww-inspiring.
Cake lace for sure on that beauty. I have been playing with it recently its awesome but I use Claire Bowmans.
Too much fondant, not enough buttercream. Cake should be a buttercream delivery system and these are more for looks than eating! Ok they are pretty.
Pumpkincredible!!
This place is tops.
Beautiful cakes - I like all of them, but the white pumpkins and the one with the golden leaf designs are just perfect!
The 3rd cake is from Jaques Pastries in NH. http://www.jacquespastries.com/weddingcakes/fall/fall.html
Amazing place, had the birch bark cake for my wedding.
[Editor's note- Thanks! -john]
Oooh! The white pumpkin cake made me think of a Cinderella wedding. They're all so beautiful.
The first one with the painting is absolutely lovely and as much as I love fall colors, I didn't expect to love the all white one as much as I do, but wow it is stunning!
I LOVE fall! My favorite season! Here in Michigan it has been a perfect fall week, and it is supposed to be another rain-free week coming up! Art Prize is in full swing for it's 6th year, and these cakes could all be competing for the prize! So artistic and beautiful!
I also thought the white one would be great for a Cinderella wedding cake! (My all-time fave movie theme, from Disney's version to "Ever After" and everything in between!)
All the cakes are amazing! I just want to add that the painting on the first cake is originally by an artist named Leonid Afremov, who is seriously under-appreciated.
The first cake's scene is based on a painting called "The Loneliness of Autumn" by Leonid Afremov. A very beautiful piece of art!
