What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

And Boobie, When You Call Me, You Can Call Me Hell

It's Celebrate Your Name Week, so I'm giving the gift of fabulous new nicknames! (This is part 2, click here for part 1.)

Another 3-letter-name goes up in flames:

(Aw, Hal.)

Let's see if you can guess the rest without any help:

"The 'N' is silent."

Whether you're Stephen with a 'ph' or Steven with a 'v,' I've got you covered:

It's pronounced "Stiv-FEN."
'Cuz you put the emPHAsis on the wrong sylLAble.

Oh, that's Rich.

If ever a wreck deserved "congram," it's this one.

Remember: Always be yourself - unless you can be Batman. Then be Batman.

Especially if you're this guy.

(Before you yell at me, the name IS misspelled.)

And now, to show off my 'Street cred:

Mana Mana
Do DOO de doo-doo
Mana Mana
De DOO DOO DOO
Mana Mana
De DOO de doo-doo, de doo-doo, de doo-doo
de DO DO DOO-DOO DO KILL ME NOW.

Ahem.

Sure, I know it's tough having your own birthday cake misspelled, but hey, even celebrities aren't immune! Case in point; here's comedian Jim Gaffigan's birthday cake:

Or, as I like to call him, The Big D-gim.

Thanks to Hal B., Meagan C., Monica S., Sarah K., Patricia S., Melene H., Rachel J., Robyn R., Sam H., Sharon W., & Desay for telling the Big D-gim that the Grand Jennizzle says "howdy."

What's Amothy supposed to be?

And hey, if you're not sure how to spell Steven, just use both, right? At least it's partially right?

Finally - Tmmy - Timmy or Tammy??

Great, now I have Mana Mana in my head. Thank you soooo much!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMissy

Hello, my name is
Billiminlilyitta.
The "i" is silent.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

I love this game! Is there a prize, because I think I nailed it:
1. Marjorie
2. Anfernee
3.Teresa
4. John
5. Stephen
6 Rachel
7. Tammy!
8.Emily-Louise
9.Amidala
10. Jim Gaffigan

Where's my prize????

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

So, I'll say that #7 is Rachael. In an Australian accent.

The rest I'm gonna leave alone.
Yup.
And practice my own Australian accent.

"Rise up lights, rise up lights"

Oh come on. I expected there to be an answer key at the end. I really want to know what name the Parik-sh*t is really. Plus whether I was right with my answers on the others.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTrista

First comment!! XD
I don't even know what some of them are meant to be... "meagary"? I got nothing...

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLibby Grin

At least they managed to spell "birthday" correctly, right? :D

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGrace

Sung to " The Name of the Game" by ABBA

I read it twice, in a short time
Thought "What the Hell" when I started
It seems to me, ev-er-y time
Meagary is broken-hearted.

Amothy's impossible, 'kay?
Thrisa's starting to screech, see...
Jonh (he isn't the hubby of Jen)
Stevphen really hates that V
So I wanna know....

WHAT'S THE NAME ON THAT CAKE?

Does Richel mean anything to you?
Tmmy's cake needs a vowel
Parik's really in some deep poo...
Tell me please, 'cause I have to know
Does Amanada live in On-tar-i-o?

D gim makes me gawk.
Don't know what to feel
Makes me want to know
What they're trying to conceal?
If you trust Safeway, will they let you down?
Will they laugh when you say "I'll spell it out for you."
Will it still be misspelled, ooohh
I wanna know

WHAT'S THE NAME ON THE CAKE?

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

"Timmy" has all the letters....the *baker* just tried to be artistic and put the i upside down...and beneath the name...and not in a pretty way....I got nuthin on the "congram" though....

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermiss_paper

"Stiv-FEN": Is he related to "Stephan" from SNL?? (The hottest club is Tmmy-Richel! It's got everything...)
LOL And I guess poor Jiim should have stuck to Hot Pockets...

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGingerSnap

This wasn't ever on a cake but it was printed in the newspaper. I grew up in the same small town that I live in now. You could submit names to be printed in the daily evening local newspaper to celebrate a birthday. My friend, Tauna, had her name submitted. It was printed as "Tuna". She was simply mortified. And these cakes made me remember that. I still think she would hate it if I brought it up 35 years later.

I'm pretty sure Thrisa was supposed to be Theresa. Because that's my name, and I've seen this version before.

As for the other three in the group, here are my guesses:

Meagary: Marjorie
Amothy: Anthony
Jonh: John or Jonah

As for TMMY: That's TIMMY. His second letter just dropped into the row below.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Did anyone else see Meagary and immediately go to an Irish accent in their head??? Anyone? .......no? Just me? Hunh. Oh well, not the first time the voices in my head made only me laugh. Why can't you guys hear them?

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterVBeach Alemap

Surprise! All these names are spelled correctly! Today is National “I Can’t Believe My Parents Named Me This” Day!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSkewed View

Clearly cake #3 is for Apathay, since the baker obviously didn't care enough to put any effort into that cake.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

To be honest, I really like the name Meagary, except spelled a bit differently. >.>

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Sang along with Sharyn -- as has become my morning ritual -- and broke up over "Does Amanada live in Ontario?"
'Cause I do live in Ontario and something similar had crossed what passes for my mind. Also, this is one of the few ABBA songs I can stand, so many thanks, Sharyn!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPersephone

Now I have the Mana Mana song stuck in my head!!! That's worse than john (thoJ)'s dueling banjo's for sure!

@Haiku Joy ~ You took all the "I"'s. Now you have no one but yourself to blame when you get messed up papers from your students. ;-)

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

So much running through my head for the second cake:

"Who's a Gary? Who's a good little Gary? You a Gary?"
"Yes! Meagary!"

"This week, a bare-chested Shatner stars in The Glass Meagary."

"Tippecanoe and Meagary, Too!"

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermajime.koala

Parikshit is a real name, an India-Indian name. The important thing to remember is that there is NO hyphen.

And also, if this is an American cake, shame on poor Parikshit's parents for subjecting him to a lifetime of mortification and therapy bills! (This is why my son is named Rohan- a nice, pronounceable Indian name with bonus LOTR cred). :)

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDeepa

Timmay! Tim, tim, timmay! Anyone? No, just me? <sigh>

I have a cousin named Thresa, pronounced three-sa. I guess it would also work with an I.

That pink cake with the lovely white bow is so beautiful. Poor Amanananananada.

@Haiku_Joy, masterful!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

Jennizzle brought me to tears I laughed so hard. While sitting in the middle of a crowded cafeteria. :p

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJessica

Cake #6 reminds me of this: http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/653707-phteven-tuna-the-dog

Try saying it. Really. It does not flow off the tongue well at all. At least Stiv-fen is relatively easy to say....

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTiffany

Actually I think Meagary is Meagan- the baker just got a little carried away at the end, like they often do.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

@Shelley in Southern Illinois - So, I'm sure Tauna is delighted that you shared this with the whole internet world then, right? ;) Hehehe! (I think you are my kind of people!)

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

Sharyn and Haiku joy BAHAHAHAHA :D. I wonder if some of those are handwriting errors. Some people have terrible writing, and couple that with some stupid name spellings out there, this is not a surprise.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Well kids -- today is MY birthday! To avoid any wreckiness I requested PIE! It was yummy (my coworkers made me two and we just had some) and there was no writing and no misspelling.

Today's post reminds me of when we ordered a birthday cake from a local bakery for our friend Jeanne (pronounced like "Jeannie.") When we opened the box we were greeted with "Happy Birthday Juana!"

We still laugh at that, years later. In fact, it's what made me find CakeWrecks in the first place. Wish I'd taken a picture to submit here.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

@ VBeach Alemap: Yep - Irish accent -- I'm in the middle of a Maeve Binchy novel! About the voices - have you been eavesdropping??

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjust me

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlison

Thanks for the earworm muppet song! The D Gim cake is so far off the mark, is he "sure" he got the "right" cake?
I love Caitlin!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCrash

Slow Clap Haiku Joy. I am a fan, and I speak to you regularly. In my head of course. Today I needed to actually speak to you my friend. Bravo

Someone in the last few days commented about being sorry for the people who dont also read the comments. Me too.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPatbeth

I know of someone named Thrisa, so maybe the cake was for her

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHillary

I love the random, upside down ampersand flotsam in the middle of cake #3... What did they think it was?? Was there any thought at all? Hahaha!! Fun post!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterrebecca d

I'm always guaranteed a laugh here. It can't be easy being Hell or Parik.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

i think i shall advocate for my first grandchild to be named Amothy.
or maybe Meagary.

:)

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLauren

I've had this happen! Ordered a cake for my husbands 40th birthday. My name is Christy but I asked for the cake to say Happy 40th Preston. What we got said Happy Birthday Chresty '40'. We decided the baker was going for a celebrity style hybrid name so just had a good laugh. Cake tasted good anyway.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChristy

Now I have the Muppets and ABBA battling it out for supremacy in my head. This is going to be a fun afternoon. Thanks Jennizzle and Sharyn.

And I also heard Meagary in an Irish voice. The voices are spreading. Beware.

Timmy? Tommy? Tammy? Tummy? Which is it? We must know!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoeMama

I think Amothy was a bad Timothy. And you know what we do with bad Timothys? We call them Amothy

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCBushLite

I thought Amothy was a bad Anthony.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Upon seeing "Amothy" I immediately thought of the scene in "Mean Girls" when Tim Meadows (playing the Principal) says " I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee". Ha!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

To be fair, if any of the names shown above showed up on my class roster next term, I wouldn't blink except maybe for Hell, though I still wouldn't question it. I have and have had students with much odder names and these, and I'm not even including foreign-born students!

@Deepa: good for you! My hubby is from another country and I told him we would immediately dismiss his father's name of "Hein" as a potential baby name. I loved my FIL, but I also love my children too much to subject them to a life of being called "Hiney"!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

My name is Michelle, nicknamed "Shell." When my cousin was little he had a speech impediment and couldn't pronounce the letter "S." I was known as "Hell" on that side of the family for a while!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

Jenizzle, please put the answers in the credits for the next hundred installments of this! Or, maybe better, have a contest of those who guess correctly? :)

Okay... my thoughts at first glance...

Wow... poor Hal. :(

1) Meagan? Gregory? Hmmm... not sure.

2) Anthony... could be Amity, but it's probably Anthony.

3) Huh! I had a great great great aunt whose name was Thirza... but that's probably supposed to be Theresa.

4) Poor John... or Jon.

Wreckerator 1, piping... J-O-N
Wreckerator 2 walks over, "Oh, no... it has an 'H' "
Wreckerator 1, piping... H... "There!"

5) Steven... or Stephen... or Stefen?

6) Rachel... could be Rachael

7) TIMMY!

8) Oh! Wow. Now I can't share this on Facebook. :(

9) Amanda

10) Well at least "gim" *sounds* right... but what is up with that capital D? Did they want a big smile emoticon on it? :D

FYI... since Meagan submitted cake 1 and Rachel submitted cake 6... I'd say we have our answers there. ;)

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKami

After working in social service for several years I would not be surprised to learn that any or all of the names are spelled as the parent named the celebrant.

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPat Mac

I believe John Travolta did some of these cakes!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

I think I rather like the name "Amothy"... not that I'd inflict it on an actual child, but it would be great as a character name in a story. "Meagary" could work that way too... Poor Hal is out of luck with his new nickname, though!

March 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSeabird

Thank you for your kind words! It was worth repeating, I thought, and this seemed the perfect post for a Wrecky Replay of a haiku. Here is the original it was composed for:

http://www.cakewrecks.com/home/2011/7/27/cake-wrecks-the-peoples-court-edition.html

March 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Phew still none with my name lol. I liked the Batman cake.. but I feel sorry for the poor person whose name was horribly misspelled. Wow.

March 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

The scary thing is is that some of these names might not even be misspellings. There are people in the world cruel enough to give their children such names. My best friend Sevrina (itself rather an odd name) has two cousins named Destany (yes, with an "a") and Tassis. And my sister works in child support enforcement; they get some pretty weird names.

March 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

There once was a girl named Amanada,
Who lived in the land of Cananada.
She went to Montana,
To buy a banana,
While driving her old Grananananananada.
