Sunday Sweets Gets Fruity!

My New Year's resolution this year is to eat healthier. Like making spinach smoothies or whatever it is all the kids are doing these days. More veggies. Definitely more fruit.
Do you think this would count?

Why it's dripping with healthiness!
Ok, fine, so maybe the apples are technically made from fondant, but baby steps, people.
How about this?
I think these are actually real grapes. I can't tell under that sparkly glaze of sugar, but I'm pretty sure. A slice or two of this for my mid-morning snack, and I'll be in marathon shape in no time!
I'm talking about a TV marathon, of course. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, anyone?
And here comes my face into this cake, because it looks irresistible. Don't worry though, it's totally healthy. It's probably peach flavored, so that evens everything out.
I've also heard that adding lemon slices to your water has some health benefits.

So, the same obviously goes for adding cute fondant lemons to anything. Let's not overlook the tastebud benefits and decorative benefits either.
Anyway, I think we all know that the secret is MODERATION. It just takes a little math.

One bowl of cherries is less than or equal to three tiers of delicious cake. See? It's not that hard.
And I'd call this a "well balanced" meal.

Amazing!
Now, it wouldn't be too hard to convince me to eat fresh strawberries right off the vine.
What's that you say? These are fondant too? Impossible! Too incredibly life-like. I will eat them all just to prove you wrong!
OK, you were right.
But THESE berries are totally the real deal.
In fact, I love a decadent heap of raspberries on my morning bowl of oatmeal and flaxseed. Minus the oatmeal. And flaxseed. Plus the cake.
But look, you can't tell me that there's not some nutritional value here. I see plenty of greenery.
Not only that, but fondant is made from two simple ingredients, sugar and corn syrup. CORN syrup? Sounds healthy enough to me. (Is it just me, or does it look like those are his-and-hers pears up there? Oh, wait. Pair of pears. I just got it. Nevermind.)
Whew, with all this eating right, I think it's time to reward myself.
Five layers of pineappley perfection. That should do it.
Yep, I'm feeling really good about this year!

Next week -- veggie cakes? (Hey, we need balance... And I LOVE buttercream asparagus.)
As I type this, it's 5 degrees here. (And the Broncos -- AKA "Orange Crush" -- lost, which makes it feel 10 degrees colder.) All this sweet, sunny fruitiness was just the lift I needed. Thanks, Linsdsey! Oh, and is it wrong that I want to make earrings out of those lemon slices?
Such pretty cakes! And so healthy! I think that pineapple one is for Shawn and Juliette's wedding on Psych!
It's 2 degrees here in sunny-to-be Nampa...and since Nampa is close in spelling to Napa which -- not to be confused with the auto parts store -- has a valley where grapes are grown, I will defintiely take a healthy slice of cake #2. My eyes continue to bug-out when that cake comes into view. In fact, it is so mesmerizing that I think a second healthy slice is in order.
Such pretty healthiness :D
I can't get over how cute that cherry cake is. I had never thought of decorating a wedding cake with fresh fruit. These are all lovely!
Honey-BooBoo? REally? You couldn't pick another subject for a marathon? Like Twilight Zone (syfy has TZ marathons every holiday). No Honey Boo Boo and no Jersey Shore.
Loooove the peach cake. Might not have anything to do with how much I love the color pewch/coral. Yeah, I'd take a nice "healthy" slice of the raspberry cake, too.
(Currently 14 degrees here in SE Iowa...brrr)
Great... Now I have to go and buy cake. Thanks a lot! Yummmmmmmmmm......
Definitely lots of Vitamin See here...
as per usual, these all look amazing, but what really stood out to me this wk is the difference the background makes. if you look at pictures 1 (the apple tree), 4 (the lemon-y cake), and 9 (the pears), the cake makes that much more of an impression with the tied in details of the setting. anyway...great job to all the bakers and thanks as always for sharing.
The painted tiers on the grape cake is my favorite feature on these. The apple trees are delightful, though!
Stunning! Way too pretty to eat!!!
That lemon cake is a pop-art masterpiece. Stunning in its simplicity. Bravo. Now send it to me please.
Too pretty to eat but you seriously lost brownie points from this Georgia Peach to bring Honey Boo Boo into this posting! We don't claim trash!
Really nice job today, Lindsey. If laughter is good for the body and soul, you're comments today helped me meet my resolutions! Thank you!
A better marathon to watch would be "Duck Dynasty." Maybe that could be a Sunday Sweets theme - cakes with ducks and/or camoflage. These cakes were very pretty.
I've never seen anything like the one that uses the tree trunk to support the second tier. It looks beautiful and gravity-defying at the same time.
The cherries cake makes me happy!
Heat wave in Texas: 44°
Thanks! They're all beautiful!
Beautiful. Stunning beyond words! Thanks!!!
Raspberries for breakfast. That totally works for me!
@Sharyn ~ Buttercream asparagus is about the only way I'll eat it. :)
It was over 70 degrees in Orlando today- I truly object to sweating like a pig in January just doing usual shopping. :( Some day I'll live somewhere that has real winters like TN or NC. (dreamy sigh) Of course, someone will have to teach me how to drive in snow. I cannot image 2 or 7 degrees. I've been in a shock freezer which was -20 so I've felt real cold before- but it was only a few minutes at a time so I know it doesn't count.
@Sharyn I thought earrings out of the lemon slices, too!
I want a dress made like the peach cake. I'd never wear it- how would you sit down?- but I want it. Love the swirly kind of ruffles.
The only appropriate cakes to eat during a Honey Boo Boo marathon are the mass produced, prepackaged kind filled with lots of "healthy" corn syrup. If Georgia's on your mind, try to class it up a bit and watch Gone with the Wind or Designing Women instead. Heck, Tyler Perry as Madea would be a better choice.
New "What they got" challenge in 3...2...1...Wow. These are amazing.I wear a jacket when it's 70. Of course, it's headed below freezing tonight here in formerly sunny SoCal, which is why I'm holed up in an upstairs room with computers and evil incandescent light bulbs to keep from purchasing the local gas company on the installment plan. Makes going downstairs an adventure, but hey, who (besides me) doesn't like wearing multiple layers of clothing at home -- freedom of movement and not being an abject klutz are highly overrated.
46 degrees in the church sanctuary this morning, but it reached a comfortable temperature about the time the service ended. Gloves are a real impediment to playing most instruments -- bass guitar is no exception.
I LOVE the tree cake; that is brilliant!
OOOH PRETTY!
i adore rasberries and they are incredibly good for you, so i bags the rasberries!
the painting on the grapes cake is a master piece.I think they are either unripe mini grapes or disguised red and white currents, all todays sweets are just totaly
B R E A T H T A K I N G.
I knew that vegetarianism had its rewards lol
