Whatever Happened To Sprinkles?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Giggle poor John. Why would you put a bug like that on a watermellon ccc? patoohie ...
"Thanks Jen" Hahaha! Somehow I can see that...
... and CCCs already 'bugged' you in general without the added incentive. ;P
It seems really odd to me that a google search for "kermit flail" brings back 47,700 hits.
Ah, you know it's summer when you spot that first giant beetle crawling over your misshapen brown watermelon.
Geez, I know we have big roaches here in FL, but I don't think any of the REAL ones could also double as bottle openers.
Summer Fun FAIL!
P.S. Love your caption. Thanks for bringing the funny all the time. We really need it now.
It's not funny. I found one of those bugs crawling up my leg one time when I was 7. Fourteen years later I still won't go outside without shoes on.
AAAAUUUUGH!
I'd be screaming, too, John (tHoJ)! I'll be checking my watermelon carefully the rest of the summer, that's for sure! BLECH! I don't think picnics are in my future summer "fun" plans either.
*shudders and runs away from the nasty bug*
I love it. Thank you for the laugh :)
That was suppose to be a watermelon?
"Thanks, Jen." Bwahahaha!
Btw, new website looks great!
That is the most frightening bug I've seen outside of Texas roaches... and it's on a cake. Plastic or piped, it's gross and unnecessary!
I didn't even realize it was a ccc (patooie) at first...not sure if that's a good or bad thing?
Hahahahaha! I'm always the one to kill the scary bugs, too!
Not for my hubby - he doesn't care if they live or die. It's for all the other women and/or girls I'm around. It's hilarious watching them freak out over a tiny spider that literally couldn't kill a fly if it was starving.
It looks like a dung beetle in which case it may be in the right place!
EEEKkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk is that a a a Roach??? Don't look like no ant I've ever seen! Eeeek!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!
I love you guys.
YUCK!!! The watermelon is the wrong color...And it's just REALLY creepy that the flesh eating bugs from "The Mummy" got into this wreck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbCtVRJAoWA
Sweet Mother of Pearl, what IS that THING!?!?!?
I mean, the bug's cute, but what are the little zombie faces on a layer of snow on top of irregular green cowplop supposed to BE???
What's that? A watermelon you say? Are you on crack?
(I miss my wv...)
If that is supposed to be the ant... are those his *shudder* droppings or babies on the pink area?
Funny, funny, funny caption!! Thanks for the laughs!
well that just proves that the dreaded ccc (patooie!) should be avoided at all costs!!!
dharmapupil: My thoughts exactly (and you made me laugh out loud). :-)
Oh! That's a watermelon slice. At first glance (for some inexplicable reason), I saw it as a caterpillar reclining on a daybed with a pincer beetle crawling on it.
*wondering if it's time to lay off the sake for a bit*
Beautiful set-up for a great punchline! Had me and daughter rolling on the floor. Stomp, stomp.
Ok, it took me nearly 5 whole minutes to figure out it's a watermelon slice. I'm another who thought it was a boozy caterpillar in a lilo. At least it put the other bug in some sort of context.
Why? Just - WHY?!
Is the fun part of 'summer fun' waiting for environmental health to pay the baker a visit?
x
I'm picturing the cake decorate laughing evilly as they put that bug on there. It's the only explanation that makes any sense to me.
Why?
I know I frequently ask myself that when looking at these wrecks. But what person in their right, or left, or upside-down, mind looks at a (cc) cake and says, "Hey, you know what this needs? A FREAKY LOOKING BUG! I've got one right here!" Why? What purpose could that possibly serve?
A few weeks ago I had the following conversation with my 2-year-old son:
Noah: *gasp* "A DEAD BUG!" (note, it was on its back but clearly still alive)
Me: "No, I think that one's alive. It's wiggling."
Noah: *pauses to study bug for about 6 seconds, then SMASH* "A DEAD BUG!"
Me: "Yeah, I think you're right."
Yum, I love cockroaches with my cake. Gives it a lovely crunch! LOL
It's a stag beetle! At least something is identifiable!
I thought it was a caterpillar too!
Housekeeping note for new site: on my mobile app (so I'm looking at this in FB), it says "If you can't say something nice, at least try not tc".... shouldn't there be something else there? The last part of the 'o', if nothing else??? :)
Bug: "No self-respecting human is going to eat this, so I can chow down! Wait -- this is a CCC! Ok, wreckorator, you're history. That little tickle you're about to feel on the back of the neck won't be a fly, it'll be me. Shall we dance?"
Awaiting John's next post...
@Alex, I've lost count of the number of sites I've seen linked in FB that are truncated by FB. Mobile just makes it worse -- if I want to look at something on my phone, I go directly to the site in the browser. That doesn't guarantee complete sentences, but it seems to help. Haven't tried CW yet.
They... they spelled "Summer" correctly. I think they're messing with us.
Cakes like that bug the heck out of me...(sorry, couldn't resist)

Awwww, haters! I love stag beetles! We gets tons of them around our house in the summer - first one I ever saw actually climbed up on the couch and pinched my foot, startled the bejeezus out of me! Those pincers look scary but they're too weak to do any damage. I think that's why I like them - poke at a stag beetle and he takes a macho stance and goes all "RAWR", but he's all bluster and it makes me giggle. Reminds me a little of the crabs in Finding Nemo (Hey! Heeeyyyy!)
Now that "watermelon" CCC, on the other hand...THAT'S terrifying.
The funny thing is right from the 1st scream I pictured that it was John freaking out over the bug, not Jen! :)
dharmapupil - BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
*puff puff puff puff puff puff*
Calamitybird - BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Hey...HEeeeeeeyyyy! RAWR!
*ribs...ouch...abs...ouch...!*
Oooh, it's a WATERMELON.
I hate cupcake-cakes.
That is the bug that Khan put in Checkov's ear. AAAEEEEEEE!
Im on the new page.. it seems great!
*kermit flail* has got to be one of the best descriptors invented! Great visual and cracks me right up. Great post...you, too, Calamitybird!
Looks like a green bowl of whipped cream with some chocolate chip cookies nestled in it to me.
The caption made me think of that cell phone commercial with the big ol' spider on the screen of the phone and the woman screaming her head off while her dining partner kills the phone.
couldn't they just use an ant? instead of a giant bug with a big pincer that probably belongs in a toy store and not a bakery? either that or that bakery needs a cleaning...
yowza!
So was the STOMPSTOMPSTOMP for the bug or the CCC (ptooie)?
this reminded me of my mother. for weddings she always gives the couple a picnick basket with plates, cups, tablecloth and the like and adds plastic ants.
Why is the man the one portrayed as being childishly afraid of a bug and the woman comes to his rescue?
When you JUST CAN'T FIND a plastic ant that's BIG ENOUGH... ;D
OK, I'm glad that I"m not the only one who saw a caterpillar not a watermelon. Or wondered if the bug was plastic vs bakery infestation. (Maybe the disgusting cheap-bakery icing killed the bug?)
LOVED this post from the "kermit flail" (brilliant description) right down to the punch line.
Is that really a ccc? Because the cupcakes are iced separately. Other than that white glob. It's a CCC on it's way to being a cupcake mosaic. Maybe that means the CCC trend is dying?
On an administrative note: I'm finding that each day's new post isn't loading at the correct time. I'm getting them hours-- or even a day!-- late. Since others are commenting long before I see the post, it may be a glitch rather than summer hours.
Secondly, I liked it better when you had more comments to a page. I realize that the new comment format takes up a LOT more space on the screen, but as someone with arthritis in my right wrist, I really try to minimize clicking & mousing and I'm finding the new site is causing pain. I liked it better when the only pain was in the abs from the laughter workout ;)
