Sunday Sweets: WoW
Some of you know that Jen and I are currently geeking out at the biggest geek fest in the south, Dragon*Con. (For the 98.6 percent of you who read this blog but are not, in the strictest sense of the word, "geeks", Dragon*Con is a convention where the majority of the attendees could tell you, without hesitation, the complete works of Joss Whedon and how Jar Jar Binks single-handedly destroyed Lucas' credibility. But, I digress.
This week, we're going to broaden your horizons with something so geeky that even I know nothing about it: World of Warcraft. Apparently, this is a "game" where "players" spend untold thousands of hours walking around and killing things and otherwise forfeiting what was left of their "lives." To do this, I asked Jen's brother Ben, who is himself a recovering WoW addict, to help decipher these cakes. So let's get started, shall we?
And here's another angle:
"Gold farming" is a term loosely defined as selling imaginary money for real money. Kind of like the stock market, only dominated by Chinese corporations. (Okay, exactly like the stock market.)
And finally, we have a cake based on one of the most popular places in the game, the bank in Ogrimmar, the capital city of the Horde.
On a side note, see those itty bitty game people with the colorful words over their heads? Those are your IT guys, your Microsoft employees, and your computer repair people. In short, the folks who keep the internets running and, thusly, control the world. So be nice to them, or someday, when you least expect it, you just might find yourself barred from Facebook. And then what will you do? Call somebody?
A big thanks to Ben, logger of untold hours in Horde-y land, for finally putting all that knowledge to good use.
(Just kidding, Ben! We all know nothing good comes from the Horde.)

new design is muy fantastico!
Wow. No pun intended. I didn't think there were WoW cakes.
I'm something of an addict, I play on a private server (it's free free freeeee!) and I know when to stop playing (when the server randomly goes down).
I don't see how it can be as addicting as so many other people make it out to be. It gets real boring, real fast. And once you hit the highest level, what fun is it to still play?
Wow, those are amazingly done! I like the new look of your website.
I know nothing of WoW game, but my son is addicted to it. I just hope he will outgrow it someday!
"Orgrimmar" not "Ogremar". Also I was going to spend the day working on the Loremaster achievement on my druid, but I have been sufficiently shamed into doing something more productive. So you performed a great public service today.
Sunday Sweets always amaze me! I can barely pour glaze over a cake to make it look good and yet these "sweet" people "bring good things to life!" Amazing!
Just looked over all the World of Warcraft cakes, and all I can say is...WOW! ;D
And I also have to heartily approve your choice of the home page design, too--long live the Naked Mohawk Baby Carrot Jockeys! Booyah!
Good luck on the book tour, too.

the new look is great. your posts make me smile everyday. good looking out.
Beautiful cakes! I must point out, however, that the above bank is in Orgrimmar. [/wowgeek]
Well if that's your definition of geek then I definitely qualify! Heck, even the offspring qualifies because he's probably the only kid in preschool who can name all the main characters in Buffy and knows exactly how to slay a vampire.
Anyhoo, that chick bursting out of the laptop is incredible! Probably one of the coolest cakes I've seen here. The offspring flatly refuses to believe that it's even cake.
love the new layout!
I know nothing of WoW, but those are some amazing cakes.
I LOVE the new design of the site, well done. =)
The first and last look tastiest. I'd try them, but I'm glad I haven't tried WoW itself.
WV: reutuk = a WoW character.
As a long time WoW player, (initially alliance, then later horde), I can verify that Horde players are "pro" and Alliance players are "noobs."
But really, all in good fun, it was nice to see a tribute to my former addiction. The horde capital, however, is spelled Orgrimmar, and pronounced "Og-rimmar," for some unknown reason.
I don't play WoW, but I AM a geek (Original Trilogy RULES!) who works at a bookstore. The "books" on the first one are beautiful! And the paladin breaking out of the screen is really amazing.
Thanks for the geekiness!
My husband spends countless hours playing WoW and is quite impressed with the last cake. He will be sharing your link with all his WoW friends:)
And yes, this game is an addiction. When my husband used to play a lot more I used to call myself a WoW Widow.
I had completely missed the plans for a new layout so I was pretty shocked when I opened the page a few minutes ago :P. But now I really like it. Well done and have fun at DragonCon!
(By the way, *my* inner game geek is now wondering whether there'd be any Final Fantasy-themed cakes out there.)
Not to be a total nerd... which I am... but that's the bank in ORGRIMMAR, not.... ogramar, or ogremarr or whatever you called it. Orgrimmar is the capital city for the horde (and really there aren't that many of us who play horde, just the good ones ;) ). Anyway... there ya go, fixed your typo!
Nitpick (Aware this makes me look like a dork) - It's Orgrimmar, not Ogremar. And the Horde aren't evil, although some of the factions within it kind of are. They're definitely not the "bad guys" though.
On to the cakes! These are great. I particularly like the laptop one and the Horde shield. Although the bank building is incredibly well-made and instantly recognizable.
The one with the bank is called orgrimmar or 'org' for short. Not that know anything about wow or anything. *goes shifty eyed*
I love the new look...nicely done! This website makes me cry, in a good way!
The new theme looks great! I'm so happy the naked mohawk carrot jockeys were incorporated.
Those are awesome! I recently put a stop on my payments, so as of September 19, I'll be taking my first WoW break in yeeeears. lol
lol geek cakes. brand new look for the site too! what a Sunday sweet.
Love the new layout! I was worried, when facebook changed it was horrible to adjust! Great job done here!
As a self-proclaimed WoW girl, who also has a "life" and isn't completely unfortunate, I'd like to inform you it's Orgrimmar, not Ogremar.
Awesome cakes.
The look is new, and it's glorious! Well done to the Cake Wrecks team!
LOVE the new layout! Gorgeous; smoother without looking totally different.
And HA! I play Alliance! :D Erm, when I get around to playing, which isn't often these days...
I love the first cake...it LOOKS awesome! But, seriously, how much cake is in there? Can't be much. I'm sorry, I'd rather have a delicious tasting wreck.
LOVE the facelift!!! :D These are gorgeous cakes - I wouldn't want to cut into them!!!
The capital city is spelled Orgrimmar btw. Not that I would know anything about that game... >_>
I am a WoW nerd. I do have a life and job and take care of my family. I play Alliance; however I do want to point out that one of the Horde's capital cities is Orgrimmar. Aside from that misspelling, these cakes are awesome :)
I like the new web site!! I also like photos that enlarge when you click on 'em, whenever possible.
I'm impressed by the Geek Fest.
Have fun!
All things WoW.

The one with the chick jumping through the computer screen is alternately awesome and scary.
Love the new site!! Carrot jockey babies, yeah! :)
Okay, I love you! I love your blog, I love your writing, and I love that you are at DragonCon and don't play WoW. You are, truly, a special kind of geek. ;)
As an avid (female!) player of WoW, and a daily reader of this blog, it put a big cheesey nerd-grin on my face to see the two come together. So thanks!!
(BTW, it's Orgrimmar. But everything else was right- good job!)
~Amy
Love the new layout!
love the new look guys! it's really more YOU! As far as the cakes for today go, they look cool, but i have NO idea about WoW and probably never will...haha
Yay - no error message!
Love the new look to your site :) Enjoy your weekend!
Beautiful cakes! I love the look of the new page; Congratulations!!
Those were awesome... especially from one who proudly plays Horde (80 Belf Shadow Priest). Just a little note... it's Orgrimmar. ;)
I have about five people I need to forward this to. It's just too geek-tastic not to share.
I love the new look too!
I recently became a WoW addict although I don't spend NEAR as much time on the game as some people. My kids come first! And WoW starts after they go to bed. LOL My boyfriend got me sucked in and he's the stereotypical computer geek/techie. Love the cakes! When do we get to see the WoW wrecks?
Okay the cakes are rather well done. Although I am so far from being a "geek" I have NO idea what all the captions we about. But really the NEW website look super duper. Good job!
Jen, I had to re-subscribe to my feed to have this morning's post show up. Otherwise, the last entry I saw was yesterday's. You might want to put an alert on yesterday's entry...
WoW, where is the Alliance love?
also, though I imagine I'm not the first to point it out, that Horde capital is spelled Orgrimmar...
no idea about WoW but the site design looks fab! x
I'm not a WoW fan...but these cakes are freaken fabulous!!!
You spelled "Orgrimmar" wrong.
... I can't believe I remember that after having not played WoW for years.
The new site looks great! :D
