The Presidential Sweet

This is a day for the history books, folks! Yep, that's right: today I opened a fresh tin of Godiva dark-chocolate-covered pretzels, and only ate two. I know: impressive, right?
Oh, and Barack Obama is being inaugurated as President of the United States. That, too.
Naturally, I want to join in all the patriotic fervor the best way I know how, so allow me to dredge up a mistake from the not-so-distant past:
This election-night Wreck's irony is twofold: 1) it's from a bakery in Chicago, and 2) the wreckerator responsible made a point of telling Chelsea M. what a big Obama supporter she was.
[looking at cake again] Yeeaah. Kinda makes you wonder what it would have looked like if she didn't like him.
Of course, bakeries across Washington and the U.S. are pulling out all the stops in honor of today's festivities, so we have more current Wrecks, too. Here's one Greg P. spied:

Some places are doing a better job, though: here's what the posh Willard Room Restaurant in D.C. has on display:
[tilting head] Huh. You know, Zach S., from where I sit it looks like the White House is leaning a little to the left.
[cymbal crash]
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.
Oh, and here's a great example of American ingenuity: this is what Cate E. came up with when she needed to sell an overstock of Yule Log cakes left over from the holidays:
Obama logs! Or as she dubbed them, "Presidential InLOGuration Cakes". Heheheh.
And lastly, I'll leave you with Sierra Rein's find:
First thought: "Wow! So pretty!"
Second thought: "Whoah, is he... I mean, does it look like...Uhh...Yeah, maybe I better zoom in..."
3rd thought: "Why am I suddenly reminded of Howdy Doody?"
4th thought: "Sheesh, this is a long post. I think I need a few more Godiva pretzels now." [wanders off in search of sweets]

You just cannot do better than a grand White House cake with a bobble-head Obama waiting on the front lawn. Except maybe for the last one that looks like an SNL Wrap Party cake with a gum paste figurine of Fred Armisen sitting on top.
I'm so overwhelmed by media coverage of today's Inauguration I might just limit my intake to this post. (I have immense respect for President Obama, but I also have a very strong need to be entertained with human ineptness. :))
Love, love, love your writing...absolutely hilarious way to begin my day. Thanks.
Um,who is OBMOA? A Hawaiian president?????
This post reminds me that, no matter what our differences may be, we can all come together and laugh at some goofy-looking cakes. On the screenprint cake (yellow cake!), at least they didn't have two pictures!

Yep I'm all ready to watch the web cast of Mr. Obmoa's inauguration. Hey why are you guys looking at me like I'm ignorant...the cake TOLD me it was spelled that way and CAKE DOESN'T LIE!
Hey, if I were a guy and becoming President, I'd have a pretty patriotic boner popping too. No wonder he's covering his lap.
Go Obmoa!
Angie (from over at www.HalfAssedKitchen.com)
last pic isn't so bad...but why is Obama sticking out his tongue? or should I say "Obmoa" jeesh. Some people...
Obama is such a diiiiifficult name to write .
Although it is the wrong arm, my first thought when I saw the last cake was "Heil Hitler." (Make that my second thought. My first thought was the same as your second thought...
Yea, that last one almost made it to the finish line without turning into a wreck, but it seems to have tripped over its big clown shoes at the last minute.
President Barack "Stretch" Obmoa seems to be enjoying himself on that cake.
And thanks for this. I'm enjoying today entirely too much already, but I was really looking forward to what you had to post today. :) You rock my socks!
WV: abblammi (no, really!)
"And the fireworks were amazingly loud! 'ABBLAMMI! ABBLAMMI!'"
That first one...oh dear, oh dear. Obmoa? And what, praytell, are those blue blobs around the edge? If I squint and cock my head to the side, I think they might be balloons...
And that last cake, with all the red white and blue, is amazing...except for Mr. Obama. Yikes...
He looks like Chico Marx.
Till I looked at a close up, I thought I was being flipped off in that last picture!
On the last cake, does it have a cigarette in his hand?
I also thought the same thing for his other hand.
And on the Obmoa cake--the one person said the cake doesn't lie--so I say to that person "the cake is a lie"
I can't get over the length of the legs in the last pic. He'd be about 15 feet tall!
Great post to celebrate the day!
Your commentary on the fourth cake is SUPER funny!! "The White House is leaning a little to the left" I almost fell out of my chair!!
Forget the economy, the military, healthcare...what have you. President Obmoa needs to figure out a way to stop these Cake Wreck offenders. Now THAT'S change I can "belive" in.
Looking at the frame in the background of the White House cake, it seems to me that it's the picture/camera angle that's tilted, rather than the cake itself. (I can't quite tell if the frame is a window, picture, mirror...) Granted, the architecture may not be quite square even if the picture was straightened up
Are those...errr....what I think they are on the first 'Obmoa' cake? Cause I'm seeing little squiggly tails on all the blue blobs. Guess that might explain that last cake....
Hey I noticed your badge on the side that said you won the 2008 best food blog, must have pulled it out there in the end to come a head, huh? ;)
~C
Can I have a pretzel too?
I belive these are the wreckiest Obmoa cakes I have ever lean...er...I mean SEEN! Great job today!!
Boy he sure does look REALLY happy on that last cake, doesn't he?
Is Mr. President hailing Hitler in that last one?
The first thing that came to mind when I saw that last cake was Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch and going "heeheeeee". It just doesn't look right when you try to spell it out does it?
Soo funny!! I'm reading this as I'm watching the inauguration so it's very appropriate. :)
If the first cake's decorator DIDN'T like him? Oh, I don't know. Maybe "OBUMMER" might have been the inscription?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............
heeheehee
PALIN FOR PRESIDENT
WHOO HOOOOO!!!
The Wacky Conservative
Maybe the first cake was going for "amoeba". That's certainly what those blobs look like.
WV: feddlexu, from which my brain extracted the very odd phrase "fed'll ex you", whatever that means.
You're hilarious.
I like that third one. It does however make me think we shouldn't make President Obama angry...
Nice! I would have maybe had his hand MUCH farther away from the presidential jewels.
"Leaning a little to the left" Bwahahahahaa.
"Obmoa"??? Also, it's 2009! Lord have mercy.
I love your site, but do you think you may be going a bit overboard with the ads? I'm sure they make you a few extra bucks, but can you consider your readers and maybe tone it down a little?
This is awesome!
Is anyone really shocked that Obama cornered the illiterate vote?
Props to the last wreckerator for capturing his true *ahem* essence.
Heidi, you are soooooooo sick! hee hee hee (devilish grin). I TOLD you he reminded me of Clinton but nooooo, no one listens to me!
wink wink
The Wacky Conservative
Laughing my butt off and loving it! This on top of the crowd booing Rom Emanuel is just too much! :)
I thought the first cake was surrounded with rats hiding under round blue throw pillows (you can see their little tails.)
He kinda looks like he's doing the Heil Hitler thing..eh?
5th thought: What's with the "Heil Hitler" arm pose? I think the rest of the cake is great, though.
Thanks again for your fun blog!

I see I'm not the only one who thinks it looks like our President is grabbing his crotch while saluting Hitler. Just a little inappropriate. And yes, Howdy Doody came to my mind as well. Come on people, show some respect. We've finally got someone in who isn't a "wreck". Let's do him proud! (especially in cake 'cause it's just so good)

Don't forget this one - http://wonkette.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/obama_cake.jpg
today I opened a fresh tin of Godiva dark-chocolate-covered pretzels, and only ate two. I know: impressive, right?
Someone once said: "Strength is the ability to break a chocolate bar into four pieces...and eat only one of the pieces."
I...am not strong.
The Obama Log cake actually looks really yummy, I want one. The first one looks yummy too.
Was I the only one who thought "Frankenstein Obama" when I saw that photo cake?
On the last cake I was reminded of the scene in Dr. Strangelove when Major "King" Kong rode a hydrogen bomb down to the Ruskie missile base.
One can only imagine the target of that particular cake.
My first thought was that he really had to pee and was trying to hold it in until he could get off the cake.
Didn't Hanson have a song called "Obmoa" years ago?
