What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Summer Fun

Summertime is officially here, and what better excuse for an ice cream cake?

(By Patisserie Jaja)

Or a pool party?

(By Short and Sweets)

Better yet, you could throw your own backyard luau:

(By Cake Lava)

Just don't forget the seashell bras and grass skirts:

(By Charlie Cakes)

(SO CUTE. I love the pastels!)

Being a Floridian, though, I'm not so much the outdoorsy type right now; it's too hot!

But I'll gladly SING "Summer" to you, along with Olaf here:

(By Lori's Sweet Cakes)

"Da! Da da da. Da DA da-da da-da..."
And aren't those the sweetest summertime flowers?

I know for most folks summer is all about the beach, though, so here's to the surfers:

(By Mother And Me Creative Cakes)

And to the "laze-on-the-beach-and-watch-the-sunset" ers:

(By cakecentral member rcsen)

And, of course, to the mermaids:

(By How2Cakes)

Because MERMAIDS.

Better yet, here's to itty-bitty mermaids building sand castles in adorable sand pails:

(By Tania Maroco)

Squee!

Well, however you spend your summer, may it be as sweet as a Hula dancer on an ice cream cone on a surfing, sunglasses-wearing sun:

(By Fiorella Balzamo)

Because that's pretty darn Sweet.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

This... I just... It's just all so precious! I'm in love with every cake today! I just want to kiss each one and pinch each little cheek! And hug them, and squeeze them, and name them George! Except one, which I shall call Squishy.

That surfing cake has amazing detail! But I loved that last cake, too, it made sure to include everything about summer, lol!!!

I made a mermaid cake for my second daughter's first birthday. I sculpted a mermaid sitting inside of a seashell for the topper. Unfortunately, just as the party was starting, her head rolled off onto the table! I guess I'll just buy the plastic flotsam next time. ;)

I feel cooler already.

Surely a cake with stones picked up from the ground is more of a wreck because I refuse to believe those ones in #6 are edible, they look way too realistic.

In all serious, though, what are they made from.

Surfer guy cake, look at the waves! Wow! And the luau cakes, so many details! These are each wonderful!

I love the sunset cake. So beautiful. Plus fondant-free!

All of these are so 'wow' it's impossible to pick a favorite, but I'll try.

OK.

No.

Impossible. All amazing, in so many different ways.

@Fiona, those are usually chocolate pieces with a candy coating. Note the shine on the ones at left. They'd probably be real rocks on a wreck, though.
