What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

On The Plus Side, Disney *Probably* Won't Sue

And my favorite:

No, really. They asked for Mickey Mouse... and got this. I honestly don't know if I should headdesk or applaud. Well played, baker. WELL PLAYED.

Thanks to Mike C., Adrian, Celeste C., & Jennifer T. for taking the Mickey out of us.

That last cake would be made perfect with a teeny little "Hello, My Name Is MIckey" tag. The thought cracks me up way more than it should. Maybe I should lay off the codeine cough syrup...

Olaf is at least recognizable. The others, not so much.....

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPamtha

maybe the wreckerator thought she said an "icky mouse"??

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMelC

Dory looks like she broke her back, poor thing.

My 4 year old son is a HUGE fan of Mickey Mouse (and PJ Masks, but that's another story). He would be heartbroken if he got a cake with a sewer rat on it.

Speaking of PJ Masks, is anyone crafty enough to give me suggestions on how to go about making a Halloween costume of Gecko?

Olaf says he is yellow sponge - my mum always told me not to eat yellow snow... ;0)

Gahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm overwhelmed by..... ghastliness -whatever that is! ESPECIALLY the "black-mouse-on-the-birthday-cake-allegedly-named-Mickey" !!! Who the heck wants a schematic/picture/outline of a mouse on their BD cake? Dang, that be ugly!

Continues to laugh and snort! MaryO

The snowman cake is half decent. Has the same expression.

1) Am I mistaken in thinking the only part of the Olaf-wreck that contains any actual cake is the head? And the rest of him is just a huge pile of fondant? And the wreckerator left his/her finger indents all along the right side?

2) The "Martian" is just sad.

3) That's a promo cake for the upcoming sequel, "Dory Goes To Chernobyl".

4) That's Micky's Slovakian cousin, Mikaeli.

It looks like the last one started off OK and then they realized they wouldn't have room for the "Happy Birthday" if they put the other ear on, so they stuck ears on the first ear, put a tail on the other end, and called it good.

KimS nothing makes me ROFL like heartbroken kids on their birthdays. It gets them ready for wrecked wedding cakes later on in life don't ya know, and that's where we come in!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAisha

It looks like "Mickey" has boots on his front feet. Maybe I've looked at too many wrecks this week because the "Dory" cake doesn't look tooooooo bad, though it bears no resemblance to Dory. I kinda get a bang out of the fish lips! I know the aversion for CCCs on this board, but I'm more worried about the tongue and teeth staining blue frosting.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

The baker hearing icky mouse is a solid theory. I also wonder if they thought the family had a pet mouse named Mickey.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAnne

Dory looks like she swam through some radioactive ooze. She might have gotten some cool superpowers out of it, but at what cost? At what cost...

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAidan (not Aiden)

KimS, I bet there will be thousands of Gecko costumes around by Halloween.

Ads a mother who has made a lot of costumes (try a Voltron costume, there is a challenge) I would start with a pyjama pattern and some green quilted material and add details.

Wow! I physically jumped back when I saw that last one.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTaffy Cake

Omg the horror.... :O. How can they do that?

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMindy1

KimS, Go to the Facebook page Fans of Epbot and join, then pose your question there. You'll get lots of help!

What is the squiggly red line on the mouse cake supposed to be? Do I even want to know?

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChicago

It looks like Olaf finally found out what happens to snowmen in summer.

BADKarma, the Olaf cake appears to be a CCC. The "fingerprints" are a reflection of the crenelation of the plastic box he is encased in.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMeadra

That Dory looks way closer to Perry the Platypus (if only it were teal rather than blue)

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJack

I disagree, dear Jen. Disney should sue based on defamation of "characters"!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

Olaf is MUCH worse than that BADKarma.. it's a dreaded CCC! (those "fingerprints" are just shadows from the lid)

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMelC

The Dory cake looks more like a Perry The Platypus wreck!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

Those little dots on the "mouse's" back give the impression of curly back hairs. At least Olaf can pass for a melting snowman cupcake cake.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterstef

The last one looks like Mickeys shadow after a nuclear explosion. Poor Mickey!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDee

Thank You Bluebonnet!!! That was my thought upon seeing these "cakes". Although they might be hard pressed to "PROVE" they were intended to be rip-off's of Disney characters. Well except the Olaf- not bad if you want to show what happens to snowmen in summer!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterbelovedbyHim

It is even more entertaining to look at the wrecks before you look at the proposed image and play "Name That Toon". Fun times. (Or maybe the heat exhaustion is causing hallucinations.)

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTriciaL

Dory looks like aomeone ran her through a Dali simulator.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKimC

Olaf looks like he just discovered he had hands - ohmygerd! What are these things? Get them off of meeeeeee!!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKyle

That's not Mickey in the last wreck - it's a Cong Rat!

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterjuice

Seriously, they asked for mickey and got...that....I don't even......

August 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNathan R.

Wow I think the customers should sue seeing these horrors especially sewer rat Mickey on the last cake lol. Oh man and poor Dory.. what have they done to poor Dory???

August 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

They're like Picasso's! Some people appreciate the style of Picasso! I.....do not! (shrug)

August 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

Jiminy Cricket!!! :p

Not that he'd appreciate my taking his name in vain, but...wow. (At least these bakers didn't try to do Jiminy. That could be really bad.)

August 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterhyphen8

Ha ha Mickey Mouse! Someone hasn't heard of him??
It reminds me the time we got a birthday cake for my daughter in Italy. The bakery asked ''with titi?"' we said "sure!" and got Tweety.

August 17, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterElliesee

well, it COULD be a Dory cake, IF Dory lived in the Flint Mich. river or anywhere Florida (now that the legislature has allowed more toxins, poisons and lowered the quality of our drinking water. so, I can see that!
