What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets For Paris

"Vous aurez beau faire, vous n’anéantirez pas cet éternel reste du cœur de l’homme, l’amour."

Try as you will, you cannot annihilate that eternal relic of the human heart, love.
- Victor Hugo

(By Bistra Dean)

"C'est intolérable, c'est impossible, que, de tant de mort, tant de sacrifice et de ruine, tant d'héroïsme une meilleure humanité ne puisse s'élever."

It is not tolerable, it is not possible, that from so much death, so much sacrifice and ruin, so much heroism, a greater and better humanity shall not emerge.
-Charles de Gaulle

(By Krisis' Cakes)

"L’amour est l’emblème de l’éternité, il confond toute la notion de temps, efface toute la mémoire d’un commencement, toute la crainte d’une extrémité."

Love is the emblem of eternity; it confounds all notion of time, effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end.
-Madame de Staël

(By For The Love Of Cake)

"À vaillant coeur rien d'impossible."

For a valiant heart nothing is impossible.
-Jacques Coeur

(By Anna Elizabeth Cakes)

Let us be firm, pure and faithful; at the end of our sorrow, there is the greatest glory of the world, that of the men who did not give in.
-Charles de Gaulle

(Baker unknown, featured here)

"Impossible n'est pas français."

Impossible isn't French.
-French Proverb

(By Mutlu Gün Kurabiyecisi)

"Elle est agitée par les vagues, et ne sombre pas"

She is tossed by the waves, but does not sink.
-the official motto of Paris, France

(By M&T Events)

Today, we are all French.

Paix á Paris.

Beautiful selections, appropriate quotes - I love today's post. The cakes are among the best you've ever featured on Sunday Sweets. The Eiffel Tower at the end is an artistic and engineering masterpiece. I'm particularly fond of #3 - it's not spectacular, but quiet and pretty and the sculpting is whimsical fun. Thanks for being the compassionate blogger you are.

Best Sunday Sweets Ever. Just wish, from the bottom of my heart, that it was a happy thing that inspired it rather than a tragedy.

This was the perfect post on a weekend such as this. Thank you for the tactful way you handled a world tragedy on your website.

Thank you for these.
When I heard about the attacks I looked up your post from 9/11/11 "Be of Good Cheer" because it always makes me feel better. This another post to go back to when bad things happen.
Well done.

I lived in Paris for a few years and was back in what I consider to be my second home in July 2015 to stay in an apartment for a few days in the Latin Quarter. I would happily move back there, I love it so much. It breaks my heart to see such a vibrant city damaged like this. Illegitimi non carborundum ... or however you spell it. Supposed to be Latin for "Don't let the bastards grind you down". ;-)
