What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??

Ok, football "fans," get ready to cheer on your favorite team!

All together now!

PACKARDS!

STELERS!

"PACK ATTAK!!"

(Don't forget the air quotes.)

We Here 50 Go Steelers!!

GO PACK...uh...THING!!

GO SQUASHED BUMBLEBEE!!

Ok, confession time: I don't really care who wins this weekend. Heck, I had to google "Superbowl" just to figure out which teams were playing.

Fortunately, at least one bakery out there knows we don't all care about football, and is trying to pander accordingly:

SPARKLES!!

GREAT ABS!!

Fingers crossed these get served at a Superbowl party this weekend. :D

Thanks to wreckporters Kate D., Julia T., Diane T., Jessica W., Amanda C., Sara N., & Amanda S., who I'm sure will agree that what we really need is a Picard vs Kirk cake-off. And Batman vs Superman. Vizzini vs Humperdinck? Oh! And Sauron vs Voldemort! Bakers? You listening?

Go (Hewlett) Packards. For the Win!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

I didn't know who was playing until my hair appointment on Tuesday (apparently hairdressers are BIG football fans) - but best of all ManOfTheHouse had to ask ME who was playing.

Now I can tell him it's the squished bumblebees Versus the cupcake uteri... uteruses?

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterT

Ah! I took a picture of the Team Jacob cake at my grocery store back home to submit and I hadn't gotten to it yet, curses! Although theirs also had the unfortunate effect of their printer apparently running out of ink, so poor Jacob looked a LOT more pink and dreadful.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterElizabeth

Great, as always!

And I know the fight song of the Squished Bumblebees!

:::sings:::

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee . . .

A Picard/Kirk cake competition? Cool! Rounded tummy cakes vs. bald head cakes -- a true opportunity for both Sunday Sweet-worthy artists and wreckerators.

Make it so!

wv - Changs.

Isn't that Christopher Plummer's family?

Biting, of course!

wv - psiono.

"Psi! O, no!" she cried out, as the vampire Greek letter attacked.

Poor squashed bumblebee!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterThe Black Dog

Wow, this was definitely a day that I had a very hard time stifling my laughter!

That first cake is just too creepy for me. Looks like the football is trying to push its way out of some orifice or another. Not very appetizing AT ALL!

wv: awshint (that's what the customer says when they see what the Wreckerator did)

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBoy George

I could go for a Perry vs Doofenschmirtz cake!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRobert

Maybe the person who ordered that first cake is just really into old cars...

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma!

Picard vs Kirk... Sauron vs Voldemort... This blog always appeals to my inner geek so much.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJabby

I snickered at the Go Packards, but I LOL'd IRL when I saw the Go Stelers! cake adorned with the Packers team colors.

And then I laughed even harder when I realized the first cake was Go Packards, because I thought it said Go Packhards. My mind must be in the cake gutter. Or perhaps I'm just too excited to see my beloved Packers deliver an epic beatdown on Sunday!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Those Twilight cakes are hilarious.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered Commentersungyim

You're not the only one who doesn't give a rat's a$$ about the game!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterConnie Moreno

"Pack Attack" really is something us Packer Fans call the Packers and how they play, so that cake is not TOO horrible... but the others just made me laugh!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKit

Besides the misspelled "Packards" it took me a sec to catch the attempt at green/gold Packers colors--they used a pastel, mint green and a "dead mustard" shade of gold. But then did the writing in the correct shade of dark green! This decorator scares me.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVirginia Beach

I thought it said "Team Coward" too.

Squashed Bumblebee! That's my new team mascot.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Even Twilight cakes look crappy. Sweet. XD

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAdorably Dead

At least the first cake got the snow part correct!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSierra Sarah San Diego

Actually, wouldn't the appropriate team names for the Twilight movies be "Necrophiles" and "Furries"? *evil grin*

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKari Ann

As I am not a football fan, all I can do is objectively laugh at the wreckage. Hehehehehehe

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Vizzini vs. Humperdink has my full support!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterElise T

But Vizzini doesn't even make it through the whole film. Doesn't even plan to do any killing himself. Humperdinck at least tries to kill Wesley and intends to kill Buttercup. OTOH, a Vizzini cake could be covered in "Inconceivable!"

I say "Cake Wrecks" versus "Awkward Family Photos" battle.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

Cake #1: Realistic looking football; creepy looking "alien birth".

Cake #2: "Steler" wreck, Mr. Bakerman.

Cake #4 "We Here 50 G0 Steelers": reminds me of the now infamous, quote worthy "OH, Here Come Hell Go!" exclamation by Calvin Tran of "The Fashion Show", as seen on "The Soup":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax4IUgMq0Aw

Cake#6: @Mladybright: I love your reference to the ridiculous Hanukkah cake from Sandra Lee. "Squashed Bumblebee": soooo funny, Jen! You made me laugh out loud, as usual.

Lol would have that Edward cake if not for the horrid edible paper. Sorry but that ruined it for me. Now if only they had put sprinkles I might be convinced.

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

#5- dear lord what is that thing??

(I vote for a Firefly/Castle bake off. WOOT)

-Barbara Anne

P.S. @Reverend Ref+ "a uterus?" LMAO!!!

wv: milishes
when I see some of these cakes I feel a little milishes towards those wreckerators.

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

it hurts that you didn't spell super bowl correctly :(

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkhanada

I think the cupcake tumor is supposed to be a jersey? Maybe?

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmandaMe

Go Packards! Are they playing the Studebakers? That makes me think of the "car soccer" match (or football in the UK) that was featured on an episode of Top Gear.

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMelinda

Does it really take that much time to spell check a cake? My guess is that they probably have no idea for the correct spelling anyway.

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMark Thuesen

I love that the "Stelers" cake is not just spelled wrong, but also appears to be green and gold!

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMeg

The first cake looks like the football is "crowning" as in.. is being birthed vaginally!

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterwintermermaid

Ah, bit lost on me, I'm in the UK so had no idea it WAS the superbowl this weekend, and still think you're talking about AMERICAN football, if it's just football it doesn't involve a ball that shape :-D

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRuth

I suspect the "Stelers" cake wasn't in Green Bay colours as much as supposed to be on a football field with green grass and yellow line markings.

How about Luke Skywalker vs Inigo Montoya? The werewolf from Twilight vs Capt (she got promoted) Angua? Dirty Harry vs Sam Vimes?

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJeffrey

I know who I'm rooting for.

GO SQUASHED BUMBLEBEE!!

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

The first thing I thought when I saw Packard was Hewlett-Packard...*pushes glasses back onto nose and giggles*
I love the Kirk/Picard bake-off! That would be amazing!

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKelly

The Pack...uh...thing CCC patooey takes me right back to the 80s and the various weddings I attended. Dear me, the torture that bridesmaids went through! Just imagine it in taffeta with a matching puffy froufrou skirt :) Oh and apparently the Packuhthings are from Greanbag.

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWolverine Girl

Please, please, PLEASE have a Kirk vs Picard cake-off Superbowl! I think that's the best idea I've ever seen on this blog.

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShayna

LOL I love the random packers one that's just a blob.

I am going to go buy a Twilight Saga cake just so I can serve it at my Superbowl party tomorrow. Thanks for the great idea, I've been wondering what to serve!

February 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterElizabeth

The best part about the GO PACKARDS cake display was most cakes were spelled "Packards" while a few were also spelled "Pacards," yet the big sign said "Packers." It was an exciting discovery.

February 6, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkmd

I wanna eat those yummy fondant cake. I remember myself before craving to make that kind of cake before. I hurriedly find recipes for it. For the beginners who loves to make Fondant cake and icing on their, here is a sure way recipe for you. See - http://jessicabyrne.com/let%E2%80%99s-start-making-yummy-and-delicious-fondant-icing.html

Enjoy!

February 6, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterdesirie_jessica

My vote goes to Voldemort. Sauron is great and all, but since he transformed from a...whatever the hell he was into a giant eye, he's hardly as intimidating on his own.

February 7, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAshley Halfhill

I'd go for a "Spike vs Angel" cake myself.

February 7, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

am I the only one that thought the team edward cake read "team coward" at first glance?

February 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMary

My mom totally just read the first Twilight cake as Team Coward!
