What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??

Ok, football "fans," get ready to cheer on your favorite team!

All together now!

PACKARDS!

STELERS!

"PACK ATTAK!!"

(Don't forget the air quotes.)

We Here 50 Go Steelers!!

GO PACK...uh...THING!!

GO SQUASHED BUMBLEBEE!!

Ok, confession time: I don't really care who wins this weekend. Heck, I had to google "Superbowl" just to figure out which teams were playing.

Fortunately, at least one bakery out there knows we don't all care about football, and is trying to pander accordingly:

SPARKLES!!

GREAT ABS!!

Fingers crossed these get served at a Superbowl party this weekend. :D

Thanks to wreckporters Kate D., Julia T., Diane T., Jessica W., Amanda C., Sara N., & Amanda S., who I'm sure will agree that what we really need is a Picard vs Kirk cake-off. And Batman vs Superman. Vizzini vs Humperdinck? Oh! And Sauron vs Voldemort! Bakers? You listening?

The squished bumblebee did me in. You are hilarious.

It's obvious that we need to form a company that goes around to bakeries and QC's the spelling and grammar on cakes BEFORE they go out. What do you think?

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTrevor

I know it would put CW out of business, but I'm thinking edible photo paper should be mandatory. However, I wouldn't have such a nice selection on the mark-down rack.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTricia L

As a huge, Huge, HUGE fan of the game, all I can say is, "DIE HERETICS!!!!"

Just . . . so wrong.

And that Pack thing looks like a uterus.

wv: gondsoal -- what happens when one of these "teams" scores: "GONDSOALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!"

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterReverend Ref +

HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Packard. *sigh*

darn it... the Boob Nazi got 1st again.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

Ya the squashed bumblebee made me giggle like a lunatic...while trying to keep my serious face on. It led to some straaaaange facial contortions. And I agree...a Picard/Kirk bake-off would be truly epic!

Love the Twilight reference. I don't care who wins this weekend either I might just use that theme instead.

As a diehard Packer fan, I have some cake "decorators" that have suddenly made me want to seek out their bakeries and tackle some cake - into the ground!!!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKelly K

Team Edward all the way!!! :)

Since the Packards kicked my Bears out of the playoffs, I hope the Stelers kick them out of the Super Bowl.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDonna M.

We NEED that Sauron v. Voldemort cake. All the others you mentioned, too, but definitely a Dark Lord Cake-Off.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJenna

Like you, I could care less about who is playing, let alone winning the "Super Bore", but a team of Packards might grab my attention!

Do you ever wonder about how many wrecks there are out there that don't get sent into you? What does this tell us about the state of our educational systems? Is cake decorating a safety net for those who "fall through the cracks"?
Very sad......but hilarious, nontheless! Squished bumblebee indeed!!!!!!!!

wv: etautes Etautes them to spell and write, but they didn't listen!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'm a Packer fan and a friend of mine knows this. She, however, ALWAYS refers to them as the Packards. And not as a joke, she thought that's what they were until I explained that Packards were cars and the football team is the Packers, as in meat packers.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I seriously thought that the first Eclipse cake said "Team Coward".

I need to get my glasses checked. Or at least wear them when I'm reading.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJudy's Daughter

I went to high school in Wisconsin with a guy whose last name was Packard. So clearly that cake was for his family's superbowl party. I have no explanation for any of the rest, except that maybe they were *trying* to be on here? Please, let it be on purpose so they can make fun of themselves.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDeirdre

Well, I thought it was Packards. This is why I need Cake Wrecks. I get all my popular cultural education here. Sometimes, my kids are really impressed with my depth of knowledge - when I just casually drop reference to a Dana Carvey skit. However, sometimes they are equally as impressed by my ignorance, when I don't get the wreckieness of the Parckard cake!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Speaking of Vizzini, on the episode of Eureka we watched last night, one of the characters said, "They've fallen victim to one of the classic blunders: never go up against an Australian when DEATH is on the line!"

I giggled for 5 minutes while my fiance looked at me like I'd lost my marbles.

(I don't care about the Superbowl either, Jen)

Yay! I'm a football "fan."

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVeggieT

I LOVE your cake-off suggestions. Absolutely killer-diller.

Pakard??? sweet!

Is that green y thing supposed to be a goal post????

Am I the only one who thinks it is funny that the STELERS! cake is in Packers colors?

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLinda

Everyone knows that Sauron would obliterate Lord Voldemort before he could yank out his wand! Still, I agree a dark lord cake-off is in order!

The irony here is way too funny. OMG I can't stop laughing.

Really, who would put an actual football in a cake? Did they at least wash the football? LOL

Heh. The Stelers cake is actually in Green Bay's colors.

Hee hee hee, Kirk vs Picard

Team Kirk:

Kirk: "Bones. The. Cake. Has. To. Be. Bigger."

McCoy: Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a pastry chef"

Team Picard:

Picard: (very suave English accent)"Number 1, hand me the number 2 tip"

(somebody call Robot Chicken)

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered Commentertjbmurph

That first cake reminds me of a football eyeball or contact lens. lol

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMary

I love the "Packards" cake! I can just picture those big old cars lumbering onto the field.

WV: freak. No other commentary needed.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

Kirk!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDorci

What?? Packards go. Well, at least they used to.

I was secretly liking the first cake till I saw they wanted a very fine vintage car to leave.

I'm still wondering what that 'thing' is. Anyone have a clue?

Poor wittle sqwuished bumblebee. (sic) Unless someone has a warped view of sports... there's no way that is a football. I'm thinking they re-designed the 'marshmallows in the center of a tube' cake!

"Oh, hey, this'll be fine -- just fill the hole with mounds of yellow icing -- they'll love it!"

Now I have to search till I find one of the Twilight cakes to take to my son's Super Bowl party. Just 'cause. Maybe both, so there can be a real party.

Who really cares about the football game? I watch for the commercials.

wv - judgen -- c'mon.. way too easy. Judgen by these cakes we're all losers if we wanted something classy.

I recently ordered a super bowl cake for a huge shindig I'm a part of and I literally had nightmares last night about what was going to be on it. I'll be submitting it if it's worthy of the site. This particular bakery has never done me wrong but I just know with as busy as they should be this weekend, I'm going to be the one that ends up with the scary guy from the butcher department decorating my cake. If you don't hear from me Monday, Cleaver Joe did a good job....

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDanielle

Hey, that green and yellow cupcake thing looks like Marvel's HYDRA uniform.

...just sayin'. Uh, were we talking about footy or something?

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSkiriki

gee, all those colours! I wanted to see Jacobs abs in CCC's.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStella

Ooooooh! I was in the grocery store yesterday and it was weirdly busy with lots of people in the drink and snack isle. I started to wonder if there was something happening soon that I was unaware of.

Guess it was the Superbowl. Hardy har.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKate

I think the Packers Thing that looks like a uterus is a team Jersey. For an anemic anorexic football player... or maybe a fangirl?

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMegan

Go Pack Go!

Ps. Love how the steelers cakes are both green and gold :)

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDena

Is that the equivalent of the Borat swimsuit in CC form?

*shudders the BAD shudder*

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermzmclean

Yeeeeahhhhh I am a huge fan of the Twilight books and films too!!!!

But on to football, Wish there was a spell check function on cake designs... I'm Just Sayin'....

Have a great weekend!

BTW love your blog!!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNo Cake Fo You!!!!

Trevor,
I apologize for my typo. I acttually no how to spel "citizens," I jest dont tipe so good. But annyway, I'm glad I gave you a laught.

Sue

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

I don't understand why they make cakes and cccs for football games anyway. Here in Wisconsin, at least, anything that doesn't go with beer is noms non grata.

Which leaves more cake for me. Ok, never mind, I get it now.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

That poor squashed bumblebee...squashed the poo right out of it!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDonna

All I could think is that Edward may have SPARKLES, but at least he doesn't have SPRINKLES...

These vampires are doing weird things to my mind, man.

FYI, this will be the first time in over 40 years that http://jtwoo.blogspot.com/2011/02/no-cheerleaders-at-super-bowl-xlv.html" rel="nofollow">the Super Bowl will be cheerleaderless, though apparently not cakeless. ;-)

Ooo, Packards. Pause while I excitedly look for gorgeous 30s, 40s, 50s era mobile art, such as Figoni e Falaschi Talbots, Stutzes, Studebakers, Deusenbergs, Delahayes, and Jaguars. Nooooo! You mean it's football wrecks?! Way to crush a girl's spirit ::disappointed::

::brightens:: But they are good wrecks to mock!

#1 Was a very nicely done cake, if not for the use of the wrong word. Must be a fan of the opposing team.

#2 *is* recognizable as a football...

#3 May I suggest, O Wreckerator, that you "pack" it in and look for an alternate career? Before you're attacked by rabid football fans?

#4 Should've just left it as "Go Steelers!". While the 50-yard line is all well and good, the goal to score a TD!

#5 ::mystified:: I have no clue what this is supposed to be. Other than a (patooie!) CCC

#6 You're right, it really does look more like a squashed bumblebee. Bakeries need to post pictures of that season's sports to help non-fan wreckerators know what they're supposed to be mimicking

#7 and #8 I think I like the football cakes better...

I do like your version of playoffs, though!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAliza

The person who made the "Packards" cake was obviously making this cake in anticipation of the opening of the movie "Cars 2" this summer.
Kirk vs Picard I have to go with Picard, the hairstyle, the accent, Oh yeah, Picard
Batman vs. Superman I must go with Superman, although Batman has the better altar ego, but Clark did manage to marry Lois Lane while Bruce remains single.
I'm thinking we need an Emperor Palpatine vs the Borg Queen cake.

WV: fautwarg- I think I'll let you fill in this one, you are way more creative than I am.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

GO SQUASHED BUMBLEBEE!!

the green bay ccc looks like a pair of lumpy siamese twins, wearing sashes.

meanwhile, what event inspired the Team Edward and Team Jacob cakes??? are they boxing? wrestling? are their fans duking it out? is it physical?is it a vampire board game? wtf?

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I have to go with Voldemort... he's got so much more finesse than Sauron.

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I must have too many small children. All I could see in the Packers CCC (patooie) was all the green frosting and imagining all the washing it would take to get that out of their clothing!

And also, LOL at the squashed bumblebee! :) Thumbs up on that one CW!

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTara

Why do the swirly things behind Jacob (to the left) look like boobs??

February 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I just *love* that I read out loud "Here 50 We Go Steelers" just before I scrolled down to see you had written it. I think I'm an official Wreckie now.
