What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Naked Mohawk-Baby Carrot Jockeys

This cake is so disturbing, I'm almost glad the picture doesn't include the whole thing. The plastic clone babies wearing naught but mohawks are bad enough, but then they're also riding carrots. What do you do with that? It looks like some kind of perverted vegetable rodeo, or maybe a bizarre clone military exercise, what with their little plastic fists raised high in identical salutes.

And what kind of occasion calls for a "naked babies riding carrots" decor, anyway? No, wait, maybe I don't want to know...

This is a total scream. So glad I stumbled across you.
I've made some shocker cakes in my time and am glad that (I hope) there is no photographic evidence!

Someone is watching too much "Wheel of Fortune" -- it's a "Before & After" puzzle.

The cake -- is a Baby Carrot Cake.

January 31, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterOld Lady on the Blog

I thought EVERYONE knew that babies come from the vegetable patch! Clearly this is a cake meant for some lady who has used miracle-gro on hers.

March 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

My face is numb from laughing so hard at this cake and the comments. "perverted vegetable rodeo" bwahahaha. That's amazing.

March 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

What is this for Ron Jeremy's grandson? The baby recipient of this cake has some serious shoes to fill.. if you know what I mean!

P.S. stumbled across your blog and it's to die for!!

You have me laughing so hysterically I'm crying Jen! Thank you for your blog. And BTW, I absolutely LOVE this cake and your caption is priceless! (Natasha in CA)

Ok, my husband comes home from work with this site I just have to see-I'm like, WTH, I am trying to make dinner for 2 kids, already 6:30 pm on a school night, yatta yatta...so my computer geek hubbie (IT guy for his company) goes into my living room, turns on the Linux machine he has connected to our 50" HD plasma tv, and puts this cake on the screen. I hear, from the kitchen, my two girls in hysterical laughter, calling, "Mommy, you have to see this!" Can you possibly imagine the look on my face when I see HD Naked Mohawk-Baby Carrot Jockeys four feet across???? Needless to say, dinner was late, and we had the best dinner conversation EVER, trying to figure out that insanely funny cake! My kids were convinced that it had to be something from one of the many sci-fi shows we watch-my 11 year old thinks she saw Capt Kirk fight them once-or maybe Mr Spock was crying over them-picture it: Mr Spock, hands on cake, face screwed up in concentration as he mind-melds with the cake...."Ohhh, the agony!! The agony!!!".....Thank you for providing me with a new place to go to to lighten up my day-who cares what the economy is doing--this will absolutely take your mind off of it!

Oh, and thank you for the perfect idea of a cake to bring to the inlaws for Easter-they will never ask us to bring dessert again!!!

OK, it's almost a year, what the heck is the story here??? Who's cake was this and why???

April 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTonibelle

I love the cake, but I'm not sure about the T-Shirts - specifically, the "it's all fun and games..." and "Wreck On" taglines.

It's a Naked Mohawk-Baby Carrot Jockey. It doesn't need a reason. Does it need need a caption? Surely, like "I want sprinkles", it speaks for itself?

Like Michelangelo's David, it is such a powerful work of art that it could surely go unadorned? Surely, it needs nothing more than its own name to grace it:

Naked Mohawk-Baby Carrot Jockey.

Actually, this was just a long winded way to suggest a T-Shirt variation.

April 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSharon

lol! i have to admitt it's funny but i mean not trying to ruin the laughs , but for what acassion exactly would you need a little mohawk baby humping a carrot it makes no since! like how many everyday people go up to a person and are like "HAPPY BIRTHDAY I GOT YOU A CAKE ITS A HUMPING A CARROT MOHAWK BABY HOPE YOU INJOY IT!" name one person and my case is closed :)

Imagine the look on the new mother to be's face when her baby shower cake was carrot, as she had asked for.

But it was topped with naked mohawk babies. OY.

The tears.. the drama. The photography. LOL.

Oh my god!!! That one might be worse than the Santa Claus caterpillar monstrosity.

Side note: I should stop reading your blog during class: everyone looks at me weird when I'm failing to suppress uproarious laughter.

i think them raising their fists makes them look more like they're saying YEEHAW.

"Perverted Vegetable Rodeo" -- a great name for a rock band!

June 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

This is one of the funniest damn things I've seen on this site...naked babies with mohawks riding carrots. It had to happen.

June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRants and Raves

maybe carrots are good for your eyes, and for soothing diaper rash?

June 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Naked Mohawk-baby Carrot Jockeys would be a great name for a band.

I have been gasping for breath between now-hoarse laughs and squeals for ten minutes at this point. I am wiping tears from my eyes between sentences. When I first read the caption, I actually peed my pants. I am going to follow your blog forever, and recommend it to anyone I know who needs to laugh until they pee - which is just about anyone.

my god, this made me laugh SO HARD.
As does everything on the site.
You guys are awesome.

Breaking News: Naked Baby Carrot Jockeys have been sighted Down Under!

My work friends know there is nothing that makes me laugh out loud/wheeze except Cake Wrecks. So to amuse me (and I imagine to they could witness me laughing so hard I cried) this is what I was confronted with when I came into work this morning. Available in gluten-free or non-gluten free versions. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cragg-ohlsson/3669975994/

I just cried.... and peed myself. At the same time.

I have just spent the past 4 hours reading this blog and I can't stop!!!

Thank you for Cake Wrecks!!!

July 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCaity P.

My 13yo son just said the following about this cake and I quote: "Eww. They're sitting on carrots naked. With their nakedness. Who would want to put that in their mouths? If that's how people have fun these days by making us eat carrots with naked babies on them, then that is just wrong. Eww."

my word verif: comar. I would have to be in a comar to eat a piece of this cake.

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMissie

Don't read this blog while in the Library.
this is so funny! Maybe the cake was for Nadya Suleman's (the woman who had 8 babies)baby shower.

August 1, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Some reservations have anti-diabetes campaigns nowadays which include "eat your vegetables," but that still wouldn't explain the cake part.

August 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

This is obviously the shower cake for Dr. Strangelove's wife and she is having octuplets!

Maybe it was for Octomom?

August 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermterree

I'll bet it's carrot cake.

Still unpleasant, but that's what the carrot means. :)

September 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMary Connealy

Maybe the customer ordered a baby carraige cake and it turned out to be a baby carrot cake.

September 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

When I have a baby, I am going to ask for a 3D cake for my shower. A carved carrot with a naked baby riding on it. Just for you Jen. :D

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

LOL! My friends treated me to a re-creation of this one tonight! OHMYWORD!!! TOO fun!

September 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterArline

I was doing okay with the Carrot Jockeys until I read somebody's suggestion that "Ride of the Valkyries" be playing. Then I lost it!

These babies make a good party favor at a baby shower. Put them in treat bags, on cakes, cupcakes and much more. Use them for other craft projects as well.

Think it is a bit scary that the naked mohawk babies are sold specifically to put on cakes

I just found this page and am laughing so hard I am crying. I too can't imagine the occasion that calls for this cake - but I am making one the next time someone asks for a carrot cake at a babyshower!

October 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

OMG! Hilarious!! Okay, after I wiped the tears from my eyes, I began to wonder "what was the original motivation for this cake?" My best guess, is that this is the visual representation of some young lady's nightmare of being pregnant with her mohawked, carrot farming boyfriend's baby. Just a hypothesis... lol :) - Frank

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I will have to admit...I actually rather like this cake. Surreal. And rather well executed. Makes me think of Archie McPhee stuff. Mock me if you must, but I like it.

To help redeem myself, I have nearly had an aneurism or two laughing at some other cakes and captions.

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbarbara

No matter how many times I look at this, I still crack up laughing! And since the naked mohawk baby carrot jockeys have now made it into the site's header...

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterElizabeth

I saw your book at B&N this weekend, and I'm so glad I decided to check out your site!

This cake coupled with all of the comments has kept me giggling for several minutes now. My husband just walked by, and I showed it to him, and while trying to explain I burst out into full-on peels of laughter. I final just gave up.

Please, keep up the good work!

October 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMandy

I wish I had the decorations to recreate this, this week. I'm making a double batch of my somewhat famous, heart-attack inducing carrot cake (more fat by weight than flour, but trust me, it's good).

October 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDarcy

I think it's really quite "adorable"

October 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

That is beyond weird. However it's the upraised hand that makes it for me!
