What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets Gets All Dolled Up

It's National Doll Day, you say? WELL, THEN. Let's find some Sweet doll cakes and celebrate!

I bet most of you remember the classic Barbie version our moms and grandmoms used to make:

(By Butik Pasta)

Though, for the record, I don't remember them being NEARLY this pretty. Ruffly pearl goodness!

Or how about this Belle?

(By Say It With Cake)

And all this hand-piped "embroidery" could make a grown woman squeal:

(By Callicious)

WOWIE.

Ahh, but there's more to life than just Barbie dolls, my friends!

There are also BLYTHE dolls.

(By Cake Central user Dolca Llepolia)

You're not going to believe this, but the doll is made of modeling chocolate. YES, REALLY. This baker is mind-blowingly talented, and she seems to specialize in sculpting edible Blythes.

Here's another one:

Ah! How could you not keep her on a shelf forever? (Again, all edible!)

Now let's get really old-school for minute, because I have fond memories of my old Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls:

How perfect is this buttercream version? So sweet!

Or, if you want the whole doll:

Hit the link for a tutorial, too!

I realize Raggedy Ann is a little "old fogey" for my younger readers, so here, lemme make it up to you:

Monster High!!

From my casual browsing, it appears there are about eleventy billion different Monster High dolls to collect. Which is awesome, but also kind of overwhelming. See, in MY day, young whippersnappers, we just had Barbie, Skipper, Ken, and their stable full of My Little Ponies.

That said... this girl is way cooler than Barbie:

Ok, time for another history lesson, because after wading through an entire internet of surprisingly creepy Cabbage Patch Kid cakes (Do. Not. Google.), I found one that is utterly adorable:

(By Go Wild Cakes)

Look at those hair ringlets! And she's even in an edible version of the box, with the birth certificate!
Squee!

Ahem.

And finally, a confession: today's post was very nearly nothing but 10 or 12 Lalaloopsy doll cakes.

Why?

BECAUSE LOOK:

And lookie!

(By Viva La Cake)

And... and... [pointing frantically]...!!

(By Amelia's Cake Addiction)

AAAAA! SO CUTE!

Ahem.

Well, happy Doll Day, everyone! Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to do a little celebratory shopping. ("John, sweetie, just how creepy DO you find tiny button eyes?")

My Spidey Senses Are Tingling

It's Spider-Man Day!

RAISE THE ROOF!!

Er, with your hands, Spidey. Your hands.

For the past 300 years* Spider-Man has faced off against the deadliest of da foes: Doc Oc, Venom, Willem...

[*Thanks, Wikipedia!]

...but today Spider-Man faces his most formidable enemies yet:

BAKERS.

Don't give up, Spider-Man! We've got your back!

No sprinkles can hold you!

You CAN make it across that cake!

Or... not.

Try using your special web-slinging skills!

Um.
This is a little awkward.

[insert "Peter Parker" joke here]

Well, happy birth/anniversary/first day of publication anyway, Spider-Man. Here's to many, MANY more years of...

o.0

Thanks to Stephanie M., Tobi W., Donald L., Suzanne S., Dave W., & Emily F. for the web of tries.
