What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Stare-Worthy Christmas Cakes

Sometimes, with all this holiday hustle and bustle,
you just need a few minutes to stare at some pretty cakes.

WHO'S WITH ME?

Let's start with this tranquil little cabin in the woods:

(By Elena Gnut Cake, Russia)

I love how the top looks like a snow drift, and the snowy 3D trees on the side.

That's the kind of place you could imagine stumbling onto this magical scene:

(By Natalya Eletskaya, Russia)

Aww. Look at that light; it practically glows.

And speaking of things that glow:

(By Cake Heaven by Marlene, Malta)

Hey hey, there, Rudolph. ::honk!::

Here's a cozy little number:

(By Tastefully Yours Cake Art, Australia)

Sweaters and snow and putting stars on the tree: these are a few of my favorite things.

Check out the shine on this one:

(By Sweet Delights Cakery, Michigan)

The tiers look more like satin than sugar!

Another dramatic beauty:

(By May Bakes Cakes, United Kingdom)

It doesn't get more classic than this.

Or there's this quilted design to instantly transport you to Grandma's house:

(By Aspasia Stamou, Greece, flower by sugar artist Aggeliki Manta, Greece)

Anyone else want to recreate this in fabric? I love the shading.

I'm going to imagine someone's quilting it right now in this cozy village:

(By Daniel Dieguez, Spain)

It's so peaceful.

And take a look at the wood grain between the layers on this topiary cake:

(By Sweet Delights Cakery, Michigan)

So clever!

Ahh, yep, I could stare at pretty Christmas cakes for hours.

(By Veronica Seta, Cake Designer, Italy)

In fact, I could stare at this one for 12 days.

(Because it's a 12 Days of Christmas design - see the partridge and the pear? And the swan, gold ring, and leaping lady? I bet there are even more on the back, so fun.)

Whatever you're staring at today, friends, I hope your Sunday - and your holiday - is extra Sweet.

Sunday Sweets: Christmas Glee

Does all the holiday prep ever leave you feeling a little...

...flat?

(By Kricky Cakes and Airbrush, Hungary)

Don't worry!
We have some ideas to perk you right up.

Let's start by hugging this well-dressed reindeer.
And maybe nibbling on his antlers.

(By Creme and Fondant, Germany)

Instant endorphins and a sugar rush!

How about a catnap?

(By Fiorella Balzamo, Italy)

Although, technically, I guess this is a mousenap.

You can let these two finish up your baking.

(By CakeHeaven by Marlene, Malta)

(I hear they need a taste tester.)

Perhaps it's time to start daydreaming about that post-holiday vacation?

(By Magical Cakes, New Zealand)

Don't forget your sunblock, Santa!

Have you tried to recruit some woodland creatures to mail your Christmas cards?

(By Aurelia's Cake, Scotland)

Well, maybe you should.

You could save a lot of energy if you just skipped the laundry and ran around naked.
What? You're too shy?

Well, start with this naked cake.

(By Viva la Tarta, Spain)

It's one of the prettiest I've seen.

If you really need to veg out, you could play with this snow globe.

(By Cake That Designs, United Kingdom)

Snowy fun without the frostbite!

If all else fails, just stare out the window for a while.

(By Made with Love, England)

Maybe you'll see something that inspires you.

Just remember to take care of yourself,
and I'm sure you'll be ready for these guys in no time.

(By Nasa Mala Zavrzlama, Serbia)

Whatever you do, we hope your holidays are Sweet!
