What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Missed Marks: Spots, Jeeps, And Impossible Mountains

Amy asked for cheetah spots on her friend's birthday cake, kind of like this:

But instead she just got "spots":

Appropriately Timed Fun Fact: Did you know Brits call zits "spots?"

Kelsee ordered this sculpted Jeep cake:

...but after driving her crazy, the baker's results fell flat:

I'd steer clear of this place in the future, Kelsee.

And finally, Kendra wanted this gorgeous ombre number for her wedding:

You know that song, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough?"

This one was definitely too high.

Sorry, Kendra.

Thanks to Amy A., Kelsee S., & Kendra L. for letting us share their pain... and also laugh at it a little.

1) Looks like the baker cheetahed on this one and took a shortcut. It's a catastrophe and I'm not lion about it. I hope she sarcastically told the baker, "Thanks ocelot!"
2) Looks like the baker did this one on the jeep. That concoction is an awful-road vehicle. It's so cartoonish.
3) The bottom tier on this one surely made for an arrowing experience. Get the point? And the "mountains"? It looks like a rocky effort at best and just cascaded into a disaster. This baker needs more alp to do it right.

I love that second to last one. Are you sure that isn't a Sunday Sweet?

Those are leopard spots. A cheetah's spots are solid.

That spotted cake reminds me of measles O_o

Anyone else notice the cake "plate" on that last one? What the...? I mean, they can't even cut a circle? And then they just put plastic wrap over it? I'm doubting this was a professional job.

Am I the only one who thinks the car one says JEER?

Or maybe I thought that because that's what I was doing.

Yeah, those are leopard spots, not cheetah spots... It's ironic that the cakewreck spots looked more like cheetah spots than the reference cake. Though still like more like little festering sores than anything else!

What is with bakers who are unable to make a straight line? Have they never heard of rulers, or string?

The Jeep wreck looks like Jeer. Appropriate.

Oh wow. I feel for the poor bride on that one. And the cake with uh spots on it reminds me of a not so nice break out. Didn't realize cakes got acne too lol.

Despite having enjoyed Cake Wrecks for several years, it still shocks me at the difference between the aspiration and the wreckeration. Even as I scroll down saying "Oh no, oh no", the reality between beauty and beastly is amazing.
Thanks for another great post. Hope the kittens are having fun.

Note to Sarah: in each pair of cakes the first one could be a Sunday Sweet, the second one is the wreckorator's inept attempt to duplicate it.

Gives a whole new reason why I will never EVER eat spotted dick.

that spotted cake wreck looks like it has some sort of disease.

So that last cake missed the mark, but with the orange frosting and all of those upward arrows, it would be a GREAT Stand Up to Cancer cake! LOL
