The Far Side Of The Wreck

I grew up reading The Far Side. My folks owned several of the books, and I can remember many happy nights curled up with the dry wit and bizarre observations of Mr. Gary Larson. I have no doubt this affected my own somewhat twisted sense of humor, because sometimes - usually after seeing something just a bit off - I'll hear an unmistakably Larson-esque narration start in my head.
You know, kind of like this:
Alone and outnumbered, C3pO did his best to blend in.
After a spritz of soda and a quick scrubbing, no one would ever guess at the dark events that transpired that fateful, frosting-filled night.
"So I says to him, 'Hey, Rabbit, it's my house and I'll hang a singing fish if I want to. And if you don't like his politics, find yourself another honey pot!'"
Bob surveyed his handiwork with pride. If only the Society of Delicate Penmanship and Context-Appropriate Color Coordination could see him now!
Buck couldn't help it: he laughed.
Unfortunately, the hunter's hearing turned out to be much better than his eyesight.
Thanks, Leah W., Julie B., Jaclyn B., Deborah F., & Matt W. You guys are far out.

Oh my gosh--I loved reading The Far Side..it was the best! My favorite was the one where a countryman was rocking on his porch, all the while the entire scene is inside a snow globe and he shouts to a woman inside the house, "Storm's a-brewing Ma", as a large hand is approaching the snow globe. To this day, I cannot find this pic on the net. Love, love, love your site...it's my go-to every single day! I soooo want my friend who's a great baker to make me a cakewreck.
Finally someone who understands! Gary Larson is the best! There is a Corelle pattern that looks like a Gary Larson botany sketch, and when I mentioned it NOBODY knew what I was talking about. Check out the Corelle Reminisce pattern.
Well, naturally. If you've lost ability in one sense, you tend to gain ability in the others, leading to the hunter's impressive sense of hearing. I've lost a bit of hearing due to earwax issues, and I swear I can smell the difference between rain about to fall and rain just fallen.
@Mare: Perhaps you're having difficulty because the actual caption is "Dang! Get inside, Ma! Blizzard's a-comin'!" I found it, after a few tries, and that's what it says. The picture was as you described though.
Personally my favorite (as a veterinary professional) is the one where a dog sticks his head out of a moving car window and barks excitedly to a dog in a yard they're going by: "Ha ha ha, Biff! Guess what? After we go to the drugstore and the post office, *I'm* going to the vet's to get tutored." I can't tell you how many vets and vets' offices have that one pinned up somewhere. Certainly all of the ones I've worked with.
I read tge 2nd cake as The Monster Cake You Tasted on my phone and I thought "Yep."
Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed the label on the 2nd cake...THE MOISTEST CAKE YOU HAVE EVER TASTED. ...WE EVEN ADDED WATER ON TOP, JUST TO BE SURE!
love the cakes AND Far Side. This site always makes me laugh. Mare, if you search by Blizzards coming, far side you will find the pic. I found it but didn't think that I should post here. Good luck
Naming the deer Buck. Just perfect. Now I wish I knew where all my old Far Side books went.
Why are some of the Chewbacca heads upside down??? These are great. Love Far Side.
"Bummer of a birthmark Hal" but what a fantastic entry in the world of Cake Wrecks!
Because I'm a bit of a book hoarder, we still own all of the The Far Side books. The humor is timeless.
It is so ironic that the Winnie-the-Pooh and Eeyore figures are sitting on an edible (I hope) picture which includes a beautifully decorated cake. The perspective is all wrong for the 3D figures, but the wreckerator who thought the fish would fit in with the rest certainly wouldn't notice. Notice how the icing on the front of the cake is trying to detach itself and slink away?
Love these!!! Well done, last one was my fav.
The second cake was advertised as the moistest cake you've ever tasted so I guess the proof is in the cake sweat.
As I was getting ready for a flight with a long layover, my friend gave me a gift. She saved all of the pages from her daily Far Side calendar and gave them to me to keep me entertained. That act right there is a sign of a true friend!
I've heard it all along in your posts and didn't know it! As soon as you mentioned The Far Side, I knew--your humor definitely has a Gary Larson voice. Love it!
For that last one, I was totally expecting something along the lines of a SciFi channel movie with the Loch Ness Monster and an earthquake. = )
Always killed me - image of a group of vultures, dining on the remains of a man. One vulture wears a cowboy hat saying "Hey, everyone, I'm a cowboy! Howdy, howdy, howdy!"
The Far Side figures very significantly into our courtship!! Jen, you know Gordon from the Epbot site. That's my hubby!!! We still have the ENTIRE Far Side Collection, which our kids grew up reading too.

Stacey's Mom has got it going on. So she doesn't have time to fuss with icing. Or, does she? (nudge nudge wink wink).
Midvale School for the Gifted!
Oh how I miss the Far Side. These are hysterical especially the deer sneaking past the hunter who must be Elmer Fudd lol.
Another Far Side fan here! One of my favorites shows the building with the sign saying it's a school for geniuses. A kid with books (presumably a student) is leaning on the door, trying to push open a door clearly marked "PULL."
My version of the caption for the first pic would be, "C3PO's concerns about the friendliness of the locals changed dramatically as he became aware of the large, furry hand on his knee."
That second cake though "Our cakes are so moist, they're practically sweating!"
My favorite Far Side was the Monument to the Donner Party. It was an ankle and foot between two pieces of bread. Real sick humor.
I too find myself thinking in Larsonesque many times in my daily life! I can't drive past a field of cows without thinking about them smoking cigarettes and drinking martinis. That would be an awesome cake!!
These are among your best comments in this blog's history. That is a high compliment to your ability and because I remember "The Far Side" well.
Blah blah blah blah GINGER blah blah GINGER blah blah blah blah GINGER
That's extra funny cause my dog's name is Ginger and I'm sure that is what she hears!
