What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: CAKE-CEPTION!

From the moment I first saw a cartoony cake, I knew I would forever love cartoony cakes.

(By Andrea's SweetCakes)

The big rounded edges, the wonky angles, the bright colors...! You guys, I wish all my food looked like cartoon food.

Of course no one calls them "cartoony cakes", which is why they're impossible to search for online. There are hamburger cakes and butterfly cakes and even giant cupcake cakes - but what keywords do you search for cake cakes?

(By Wendy's Taarten)

Well, whatever you call them, the fact that these are cake versions of cake is pretty much the greatest thing ever. And a little mind-bending. In a good way.

(By Make The Cake)

And did I mention how stinkin' cute they are? Because ERMERGERSH SO CUTE.

If it's mind-bending to slice into a cake cake, imagine slicing into a cake bowl of batter:

(By Southin Style Cakes)

Or a cake bowl of icing WITH a cake Kitchen Aid mixer!

(By Cindy's Cake Creations)

::sound of mind being blown::

Ahh, but the cake-ception goes deeper, because some bakers combine their cake cakes with OTHER sweet fakery:

(By Vera Gatafera)

Like giant Oreo cookies.

Or life-sized macarons and cups of tea:

(By nice icing)

Or just multiple types of CAKE:

(By El Taartero Real)

Though I like the little kitchen on the bottom!

This one is especially drool-worthy:

(By Mia Cakes House)

I'm not even a froofy coffee drinker, but I want those whipped-cream-covered froofy coffees!

But to complete the circle of our meta cake-ception, I have to end with this:

(By Roxy Cakes)

Because even I am questioning what kind of cakes are inside each tier. o.0
Especially the "cheesecake." What flavor do you suppose that one is inside?
And is anyone else's brain hurting now? Ha!

Hope you all enjoyed the cake cakes! Happy Sunday!

These are terrific! That last one reminded me of a cherpumple (three kinds of pie surrounded by cake, stacked). My family could totally got for that last cake or a cherpumple.

Re: Bella's cake (or is it Belle's?) How do they EVEN!? The tipped top cake is defying gravity and several other laws of nature. (Such as cake being too pretty/awesome/artistic to eat and isn't that the reason cake exists?) Once again, Sunday restores my faith. It's like Cake Church. Thanks, Jen and John

Did anyone else notice the lipstick on the teacup in cake #7?? Super cute detail.

I don't exactly like cake - but I sure would like a piece of every layer of that last cake!!!

June 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

Tautology cakes? No links for that?

June 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKnittedbooties

Those aren't cups of coffee - they're cups of HOT CHOCOLATE! Which is even more awesome. Notice the 'chocolate pot' as the second tier? Second tier from the bottom, that is. Do you count tiers from the bottom or the top? On of life's great mysteries!

On cake #7 with the tea cup and the macarons, do I spy "steam" rising up from the inside of the teacup? And if I do, how on earth did they pull that off?

June 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDrockbox

The you tube baker fro how to cake it just did a cake of cakes recently that was pretty good.

Don't know how to screen grab and send it to you.

I need some cake now.

How do they get that one to balance on edge like that? It's a marvel of cake engineering.

The only thing that would make these more perfect is if one had a spinning top on it.

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

There are no words to describe these works of art! Thank you for sharing! How do they do it?

June 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDiane Messantonio

search for "Topsy-Turvy Cakes". not QUITE the same thing but they're also ADORABLE. plus they are easy to mess up so that will give you some content :)

When my daughter was wee she had an electric tea light candle she would carry around. She would turn it on and sing "Happy cake, cake" instead of "Happy Birthday". Thanks for bringing that sweet memory back for me.
