Sunday Sweets: Robots Rock
April 24, 2016 Here's a little known fact: Nothing makes Jen as happy as adorable robots.*
(*Except our cat Lily. And Disney. And chocolate cake. Okay, so a lot of things make Jen happy.)
So this week, I thought we'd look at adorable robot cakes. Because I love my wife. And because she picked the cakes. And then said, "GO WRITE SWEETS."
Ahem.

Love the primary colors. And I don't know about you, but I like figuring out how some of these support structures work. For instance, the balloon - which I assume is NOT filled with helium, and is actually edible - must weigh quite a bit, but it's only held up by that little string. How cool is that?

Love that it's balancing on one wheel. Jen and I made a full sized Claptrap from Borderlands once, and easily the hardest part was getting him to stand on one wheel. (I'm not saying we failed, buuuut... it does make a lot of noise when he falls over. O.o)

D'awww, Wall-E looks so sad. He must have just watched any Pixar film ever. (I firmly believe there is a task force at Pixar with the sole purpose of making you weep uncontrollably during all of their films.)

I love how they captured its little robot emotions. I like to think it just escaped from a lab somewhere after gaining a soul, and now it's discovering the beauty of nature for the very first time.
Or it's thinking about soup. Definitely one of the two.

Totally unrelated but kinda related, when I first started dating Jen 18 years ago we discovered we both used to love rollerskating to Don't Stop The Rock as kids. If you don't know it, it's a song sung by a robot, so yeah, this tangent is totally related.

Ha! That's so funny. I wasn't ever very good at roller skating but that song would always get me out on the floor at the skating rink when I was little!

My daughter and I think that last one is actually a robot version of Big Bird - look at the arms.

The 7th robot isn't from Toy Story. It's Bot from Nickleodeon's Team Umizoomi. I'm embarrassed to know that but I've been forced to watch MANY episodes due to the teeny boss in my house.
Great sweets! However, the third from the last is Bot from Team Umizoomi. Sad that I know this.
Another lovely Sunday Sweets! Just a heads up -- the third from the last isn't referencing Toy Story. He's the oh-so-creatively named Bot from Team Umizoomi on Nick Jr. It's not one of my favorite kids' shows, but it is math and numbers based, so I tolerate it occasionally.

I like the last one the best! Mostly because the skull is wearing roses and a big blue bow....and something that looks like a broken rolling pin(?).....And hey--did you notice that NO ONE has mentioned the "OhHereWeGoAgain" thing from........ =^-.~^=

I have a question about the song though. You say "sung by a robot", but there are no lyrics in the version you linked to. Was "sung" meant to be irony? I don't know the song because I was "too old" for rollerskating when it came out. Or couldn't find a rink anymore. I was going to search for the song but decided to ask before possibly wasting my time trying to find lyrics.

I was shocked to see my robot Etsy shop, GinnyPenny, was getting views from one of my favorite blogs. I mean, I don't make cakes, but yes, Paul did make a cake based on one of my Steampunk robots. I am so thrilled to see it here! Love Love Love your blog!
I'm late on the game ... The blue robot on white fondant was more than likely a transfer. You reverse pipe onto a piece of parchment, freeze and then place onto the fondant. You risk it breaking, but you ensure you don't smudge that wonderful white.
