Sunday Sweets Celebrates Kids' Movies

Anyone else out there addicted to kids' movies? 'Cuz I admit it: I love 'em. Especially since they keep making so many amazing ones.
Besides, how can you NOT love Baymax?
(By Catherine's Cakery)
Seeing Big Hero 6 in the theater was a milestone for me, since I'd been avoiding theaters for years on account of my panic disorder. But I went to that movie, loved it, and didn't panic. So in his way, Baymax the Healthcare Robot helped me, too.
Gosh, that got sappy fast, huh? Sorry.
ONWARD!
To quote a certain Despicable soundtrack: this cake makes me "Happpyyyyy!"
(By Cakes By Carol)
IT'S SO FLUFFY!!
Sure, there are eleventy billion Frozen cakes out there, but check this out:
(By Carmen's Art Cakes)
It's based on the new short, Frozen Fever! Which I still haven't seen yet. I... need to fix that.
A fantastic plane from Planes:
Sometimes - like when I'm looking at that propeller - I have to remind myself we're looking at cake.
Another movie that had me dancing in my seat:
(By Sogni de Zucchero)
Rio!
The sculpting on those figs is blowing me away.
Anyone remember The Gruffalo?
(By Fat Cakes Design)
He's from a kids' book-turned-animated-short, so that's one more for my to-watch list.
Next, the movie with my second-favorite Batman*:
(By Bake-a-boo Cakes)
LEGO Batman.
Although I'm also loving Unikitty up there!
[*Second favorite, because Michael Keaton foreverrrrr.]
Technically not a kids' movie, but who doesn't turn into a big kid over baby Groot from Guardians?
(By Cinnamon Square)
NOBODY, that's who.
A few months ago John and I finally watched Book of Life, and WOW. So good.
Just like this cake!
And check out this gravity-defying Box Troll:
(By Little Cake Shop)
The sense of motion here is incredible; you expect to blink and see him flat on the pavement!
And finally, and most squee-worthy, BABY TOOTHLESS:
(By Fernanda Abarca)
I'd very much like to train THIS dragon, pretty please. (The little tongue! ACK! So cute.)
Happy Sunday, everyone!

Baby dragon :D and that troll cake is amazing.
I am very proud of the fact that I taught Art at the Grade 7&8 level to Academy Award winning Director of Big Hero 6, Chris Williams. He participated in a couple of Art Club projects filming stop-motion plasticine characters as well as frame-by-frame. (Had to brag)
Squeeeee!!! Omg that baby toothless...
I'm fortunate enough to have a 13 year-old son who loves animations so I still get to go to all the awesome kids movies, but even without that excuse, I would still be there. Thanks Jen!!!
Γber SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! ππππππππππππππππππ
Lπve ALL of them!!!!
First up, well done Jen for making it to the cinema. X
High five for saying Michael Keaton is the best Batman.
OMG! I want to cuddle the unicorn, Gruffalo & Toothless cakes. How can you cut into them let alone eat it?
"I cannot deactivate until you say that I know that your belly is full."
Oh my goodness, that Toothless!! So sweet! Also I'm dying to know how the texture on the unicorn cake was done, it looks amazing.
If you haven't seen The Gruffalo you HAVE to make time to watch it, the book is a classic and the cartoon is such a lovely version of it. It is honestly one of, if not *the* best adaptations of a children's book I've come across (and I work as a nanny so I've seen many of them); which I would put down to the fact that they do not change even one single line of the story from the book and just let the spirit of the original shine through. The only thing they add is a little set up at the beginning with a mother squirrel telling the story to her children.
In fact the studio that made it have also done two other Julia Donaldson/Axel Scheffler book adaptations; The Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom which are both well worth watching too, although I would say Gruffalo's Child is the weakest of the three (but that goes for the books as well).
These are ll amazing and cute and wonderful but I am extra blown away by the texturing on the unicorn!
The cakes are great, and yes, Michael Keaton foreverrrr! The rest are all pretenders.
Awww, adorable!
I have a four-year-old nephew who is big-time into the Gruffalo - he'd love that cake. Except he probably woldn't want to cut it. =-)
Love all these! Can't pick a favorite today π
But was the unicorn cake FLUFFY?!!!?!
I am completely overcome by the squeeeeee worthiness of all if these.
I require medical assistance from Baymax and a cuddle with the fluffy unicorn.
I NEED BABY TOOTHLESS!!!!!! So much squeeeing! And the gravity - defying box troll is pretty awesome, although I wouldn't want to try carrying that...
I'm convinced that Dreamworks had a hidden camera trained on my cat and they used her as a behaviour model for Toothless, 'cause she was JUST LIKE that dragon. She would have turned 17 on Tuesday, and I'll be wearing my Toothless shirt in her honour. But I wish I had that cake, too - it's amazing!
Olaf is holding and eating a cake!!!!
The Fluffy Unicorn is awesome!!!
What am I saying? They are all awesome. After I saw Big Hero 6 I tried to explain to my mother and nephew how Baymax moved. I ended up getting up and showing him trying to get out from behind the bed.
@Zoanna and others re: the unicorn's texture: I don't do cakes, but I do some craft things, and it looks to me that they may have used a rough sponge, like a natural sea sponge, painstakingly dabbed all over the surface. Or, maybe the tip of a stiff brush...and that would've taken a really long time, too. It almost has the "feel" of fleece-(!)-the kind people wear. It could have even been a really tiny paint roller! It's a neat effect, at any rate, and It's fun to guess!
How have you not seen Frozen Fever - or live action Cinderella!?! Must see now!
*HEART* the toothless cake!
Wait, you mean his name isn't Betamax? Whoops...
From one anxiety sufferer to another, you go Jen! Infinity high fives!
Also, hair-Y BA-by! I can't get enough Big Hero 6.
Am I the only one seeing the cover of the Cake Wrecks book instead of the box troll?
Michael Keaton, yes! And Jack Nicholson is the Joker.
This is my absolute favorite Sunday Sweets post! Both of my boys love all of those movies!
I adore the Gruffalo cake! (I made a Gruffalo cake for my son's 2nd birthday, but sadly it didn't look anywhere near as amazing as this one). And like Zoanna said: the Gruffalo, Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom are amazing books-turned-animation that you MUST see. Truly beautiful films.
Ok, all those cakes are AWESOME, but the baby Toothless... made me.... CRY! and I don't normally tear up over cute things EVER. That is one phenomenal cake.
We never expected to make it to Sunday Sweets! Thanks so much!!!
First off...Shirley, that's a pretty darn cool claim to fame!
Secondly, am I the only one that went from humming "Everything is Awesome" to then humming Jackson 5? Just me? Hmmm.
Thirdly, I'm thinking I need to rent Big Hero 6. I've heard a lot of good stuff about it.
And btw, a lady told us off on our Facebook post of the boxtroll, saying that we shouldn't make cakes for kids with such scary faces....
OMG I want that cake..you know the despicable me horse one! Oh and I love you guys!
The Gruffalo is a must-see. It's on Netflix. It's really beautifully done, I think.
All:
I don't know if you saw or not...Sweden had a royal wedding on Saturday. One of Prince Carl-Phillip's wishes was to have Pop Rocks in the wedding cake to surprise the guests.
AND THEY DID!
"The sculpting on those figs is blowing me away."
I can't tell you how long I tried to find sculpted figs on that cake before realizing it meant "figures". Durr.
About the "Haappppyyyyyy..." cake - is that really cake? I had to look at it for a long time- it almost looks like a child's stuffed toy! I laugh so hard at all the cake wrecks during the week, but when it is time for Sunday Sweets I mostly say, "Wow, look at this one ... (scrolling down) and this one (down again) and so on, all the way to the last picture!
I still haven't seen Book of Life or Box Trolls *adding to list now*
- Krys
Oh my gosh, thank you, Mary! You saved me. I've never heard of the abbreviation "figs". I was about ready to give up.
ECB, you weren't the only one looking for figs. I eventually figured it out ... LOL.
Yea Keaton rocks!!
I think that anyone not referring to baby Groot as Groot-shoot is seriously missing an opportunity.
