What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Hats Off - Really, REALLY Off - For Dr. Seuss!

It's Dr. Seuss' birthday!

And what better way to celebrate than with the Cat in the Hat's iconic hat?

K, bakers, that's your cue to wow us with some show-stoppers!

0.o

Well, it'll stop something, alright.

Because it looks like a traffic cone.

I thought this was pretty bad at first, but then I realized those are supposed to be Things #1 and 2 at the bottom:

So now I'm just scared.

Maybe the third time's the charm?

NOPE.

(Psst. Hey, baker. You spelled "splendiferous" wrong on your penis cake.)

Ok, forget the hats. After all, you've seen the best...

(By Absolutely Cake by Sebrina)

now see... this thing!

And from the looks of things, the Things are smeared all over this thing. Ew.

Thanks to Jenn N., Emily P., Mary A., & Beki G. for the thinga-ma-murders.

We were feeling fine
It was Seuss' birthday
Then they brought out the cakes
And we all ran away

The last cake looks like it is collapsing in on itself in shame. AS WELL IT MIGHT.

It's my birthday too, and I feel 111 years young too!

You know you've been looking at CakeWrecks too long when you see a cupcake cake (Ptooie!) and think, "Wow, that's not so bad!"
I would, however, scrape off all that icing before I ate anything.

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFM

My 8 year old (after seeing the last cake) said "that is pretty bad... what happened to it"? I agree completely, lol!!

EEEEW....
Those Dr Seuss cake wrecks are so P.U..
They want to make to spew!!

At my house, I've got Thing 1 & 2, in spirit
Unlike Doctor S's, they're messy & loud
I'd give them both to Cat on his next visit
But I'm their mother, so that isn't allowed.

i like the second cake - which looks like cupcakes. i think it's really clever.

Well, they COULD at least have washed the dirty glass before plopping on the top of all those leftover non-descript globs of fondant.

Is that a wocket in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Why did they off set the rows of white and red on the ccc (ptooi!)if they had lined them up it would have looked a bit better. And why thing one and two in profile?

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterClaire

Happy Birthday @Rachel CrazyMum!! Have a margarita! And NOT a cake wreck!

You sad silly bakers!
You wreckers of Suess!
Give up you bad baking
And become a recluse!

Thing One and Thing Two are quite famous
For the trouble that they love to make
But they've never caused quite as much mischief
As the people who messed up cakes bake

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

I must admit - that cupcake cake is not a total wreck- the icing and piping are both remarkably precise (with the exception of the Things). I even like the offset rows.

You know, if you are going to go to the trouble and expense of baking and decorating a special cake, why not take the time to double check your spelling? Maybe you are not a great artist but there are dictionaries, people!

Thank you cakewrecks! You make my day!

On the last cake- "I'd do not like green eggs and play dough cakes, I do not like them Jen I AM serious"
My bestie is a cake decorator, and she has compared Fondant to play dough before, but to my knowledge, she's never "made a snake" and crammed it into the space where the layers of cake meet :)

Oh my god D:

Okay, I'm not buying that the last cake is from a professional bakery. No way, no how! They wrote with a STAR TIP! (right now you're thinking, *THAT"S what you're focusing on?!*) Besides all the other, I'm going to say hundreds of flaws with this "cake", I'm never going to believe that a professional baker would ever write with a star tip...or think this cake was good...or even think it was okay...or even allow a photograph to be taken of it...
This was constructed by a kindergarten class under the not so direct supervision of their substitute teacher's helper. There is NO WAY this was done by a professional. nope, nope, nope!

The last one looks like a blindfolded, drunken version of it's inspiration.

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermiss_paper

I....kind of like the cupcake one.
As for the rest, in the words of the Dr. himself, "You're in pretty good shape for the shape that you're in!" :p

Is that the cat at the bottom falling off the hat, and he bleeding severely?

I thought I would lay claim to my Dr. Seuss cake. :-) I am the Cake Central member whose name you couldn't see & I am completely honored! https://www.facebook.com/AbsolutelyCake/photos/a.180990218622101.53546.171264159594707/319372314783890/?type=3&theater

One of these things is not like the other...

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterStiria_the_fast_one

It never occurred to me that cake decorating is a Freudian phallic syndrome, but the evidence just keeps, uh, coming.

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKnittedbooties

After many years of Cake Wrecks, I admit to being completely surprised that no one misspelled Dr. Seuss's last name.

I thought the CCC was pretty reasonable for a CCC, though emphasizing the shapes of the cupcakes looks a bit odd for this particular hat. I'm keeping my opinions of the rest firmly to myself. Yep. If you can't say anything nice, and all that. There's also that "Don't swear" in the moderator directions.

I would not eat that “traffic cone,”
With ice cream or all alone.
It looks a bit I’ll say obtuse
To come from the pen of Dr. Seuss.

I see the fish,
One red, one blue,
But I do not know
Thing One or Two.

A therm-o-meter on a cake?
I think that is what they did make.
It must be hot, it melted the corner,
The results, no doubt, of a global-warmer.

Of that last cake I’m no fan
I would not eat what’s in that pan,
I would rather have green eggs and ham.
That’s all for now; mel I am.

March 2, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermel

Well that last cake looks like they put a used votive holder on it because it sure looks burned lol. Wow. So unexpectedly hilarious tonight.

March 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

What are those disgusting blue blobs?
Why is the cake covered in playdoh?
And why does The Cat In The Hat look like he was hit by a train?!

March 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterChocogirl

Sebrina,

Your cake is AMAZING! I love how they posted it above that hot mess to emphasize how bad it is...it is definitely crumbling with shame in the face of your immense talent! LOL
