What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Star Wars: The Sweets Awaken!

Thank goodness Christmas is done, so we can focus on the best end-of-year present for geeks yet:

MORE STAR WARS!!

(By Baked Custom Cakes)

♪ Bawwwm, baawm, bawm bawm bawm BAAAAWM bawm... ♫
Yep, I've got a GREAT feeling about this.

Don't worry, this is a spoiler-free zone for those who haven't seen the new movie yet. We're just here to look at some stellar Star Wars sweets, not talk about [REDACTED] or [REDACTED] or especially that insane [REDACTED].

You're welcome.

Starting with...

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's named after a bird so this kind of works!

(By Cup A Dee Cakes)

[Oprah yell] MILLENNIUM FAAAALCOOOOON!

There are approximately 12 parsecs worth of Falcon cakes out there, guys, but they don't get any more perfect than this. That hull detail alone would make lesser bakers weep. WEEP, I SAY.

More perfection in the form of the best Stormtrooper helmet cake I've seen yet:

(By Mike's Amazing Cakes)

I haven't seen any great Trooper cakes from The Force Awakens yet, but I *did* find this fun Captain Phasma bobblehead design:

(By Rosy Cakes for The Bakers Strike Back)

You just want to squish her, right? But in an affectionate way.

And while we're talking cute, BEHOLD!

(By Little Cherry Cake Company)

The cutest cake in the galaxy!!

(Those are the droids I'm looking for, and desperately need on my desk, you guys. NEED.)

Less cute, but this snazzy Death Star design has the looks (and lasers) to kill:

(By CuriAUSSIEty Cakes for The Bakers Strike Back )

Talk about a work of art! That hand painting is swoon-worthy, and I love the offset Death Star.

Some more new faces from The Force Awakens:

(By Janette MacPherson Cake Craft for The Bakers Strike Back)

Rey and BB-8!

I don't know if you guys have ever noticed this, but Darth Vader's helmet is just about impossible to get right in cake. Seriously. I've only seen it done well a handful of times.

So imagine my delight in seeing not just his helmet, but Vader's entire BODY done this well, and also LIFE-SIZED:

(By Amanda Oakleaf Cakes)

The Force is strong with this bakery. (And yes, he's really cake!)

You may think this Rancor is more likely to take a bite out of YOU than the other way around:

(By Cupcakes & Dreams Portugal for The Bakers Strike Back)

Can you believe he's cake, too? WOWZA.

And finally, let's end with everyone favorite new character from The Force Awakens, who also gets the life-sized cake treatment:

(By Cakes Cove)

Just watch out for Kylo with that knife, BB-8!

Happy Sunday, everyone!

That Millennium Falcon is super impressive. So much detail!

The trooper helmet looks like you could pick it up & wear it, nice!

And please tell me that the blade on Vader's saber is made of cherry hard candy, cause that would be awesome.

Star Wars: the Awesomness Awakens! These cakes are out of this world!
(Speaking of spoilers: I was happy I went to see it opening weekend. The next Monday my grade-school kids came home from school and told me all about it. :/ )

My geeky self wants that outfit that Rey wore! It would not look near as good on me, but I think it would be cool in our #NeverendingFloridaSummer! Also, cakes are way too cool to eat!

Thanks for my final Star Wars related Christmas gift! My peeps know what makes me happy, so I got plenty of geeky gifts this year! Love all of these cakes!

Bakers, you will deliver these cakes to me.

Thanks for featuring my Millineum Falcon cake! It is a great Christmas present! Just a little tidbit, our cake is 100% cake and no internal structure, just good old fashion dark chocolate mud cake! It "only" took 44 hours to decorate! I want to make another because it will be better next time!

@LuLu: These bakers are no weak-minded fools. You will get a wreckplica! lol

I'm delighted and not at all surprised to see that it's Amanda Oakleaf Cakes that made the life-sized Vader. I saw, and ate a piece of, their life-sized storm trooper at Arisia a few years ago. :)

The actress who plays Rey in "Force Awakens" made her own BB8 cake wreck:

@ Jennifer White...BRAVA! Perfection my friend. Chef Hats off to you. Only 44 hours, amazing. Now my family won't think I'm nuts because it took me 3 hours to decorate a chocolate cheesecake I just made for Christmas, (I'm Italian and a perfectionist when it comes to my baking and cooking) I dream of having your talent. What fun you must have! Thank you for the beautiful Falcon. I love chocolate cake but would not take a knife to that wonderful creation. Well, maybe for the first few minutes or so (lol).

The Star Wars juniors really make me smile thinking of Muppet Babies. Now, I really want a cartoon of Star Wars babies...
